Not "have been made" but "will be made". Paul was looking beyond the completion of the Bible. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. (1 Cor 13:8)

The "knowledge" could not be ordinary knowledge but supernatural knowledge -- divine revelation. When the Bible was completed these three gifts ceased. They were "done away with". One would think Christians would be happy with the fact that they have a complete and sufficient Bible. But that is not the case. Some are always hankering for "new" revelations.
When the perfect arrives?

Are you perfect?

Surely, Paul is talking about the return of Jesus in 1 Corinthians 13:8.

I know the 'perfect' is not referring to the New Testament.

Read it as "when the COMPLETE arrives". The Bible is complete and perfect. End of story. Many translations have "complete" or "completeness".
Some translations have 'complete' and many translations have 'perfect'.

I do not accept that the New Testament is perfect. Sufficient for a righteous life in the Holy Spirit, yes.

I can actually prove that the New Testament is not perfect.

Do you know how NONSENSICAL that sounds? Do you believe that God the Holy Spirit gave us the New Testament? Would He give us something imperfect and incomplete? That shoots down your position right there.

May I ask if the following gifts have become redundant. Just post the numbers in your reply so I can understand your interpretation of the New Testament.

1) The gift of salvation
2) The gift of righteousness
3) The gift of faith (Romans 12:3)
4) The gift of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, love, faith, kindness, gentleness, etc
5) The gift of the ministries, teaching, knowledge, wisdom, helps, etc
Gift of salvation isn't in the same category as sign and ministry gifts.. but of course that remains.T

Faith of course remains.. because looking at 1 co 13.. faith hope and love supersede all other gifts. And they ARE gifts of the Holy Spirit.. because God supernaturally empowers them for a believer.

Gift of righteousness.. same category as salvation.. it isn't in the same department as it were with sign and ministry gifts.

Fruits of the Holy Spirit.. of course in operation now.. but again in a different category to sign and ministry gifts.

Ministry gifts-- I believe have fulfilled their purpose and the tools to use them put down. The apostles who carried them are no more and we have scripture to guide us. In saying this.. I don't have any issue with people into ministry gifts.. because there is not much difference between being talented in a ministry and have the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The thing is.. if 'that which is perfect' or 'the perfect thing' in 1 Corinthians 13 is the completion of the canon-- then that settles the matter. I see it as this.. because when you put the second coming of Christ in there as the perfect thing.. it doesn't follow the context of sign gifts being in part and then completed.

Whatever is in part .. is completed with the perfect thing. They are the same thing. Jesus' second coming is different to the sign gifts. The perfect completes what is in part.. and what is in part is the sign gifts. There is more to this also.. but the next thing...

1 co 13 on it's own is not enough to show the temporary nature of the sign and ministry gifts. So, another part of this is looking chronologically at the letters to the churches from Paul.. and see how the mention of the gifts gets less and less. Added to this is the fact that Paul did not mention using the gift of miracles or helps etc.. when writing about healing the sick.

From newest to oldest:

1 Peter only mentions speaking and serving.

Ephesians 4 has ministry gifts but no sign gifts mentioned

Romans has prophecy mentioned plus other ministry gifts but no tongues mentioned.

1 Corinthians has them all.. but they decrease in mention as the book goes on from chapter 12-13.

There is a lot more to this also.. but I will stop here for now.

The main thing being: God's power is much more than the sign and ministry gifts.

All that are born again should seek the MINISTRY that the Holy Spirit has for them. "Tongues" are nothing more than the tip of the iceberg. Hearing from God, and being obedient to HIS LEADING it what's important. You're to TAKE HIS YOKE UPON YOU, and Learn of Him. Since "tongues" flows from the Holy Spirit into your mind so you can speak them it's, if nothing else a "training session to get you used to hearing and doing what HE has for you to do. I speak in tongues - have for 50 years now, but it's INTERPRETATION that has been manifested in public, and it, Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Prophesy, and tongues all operate the same - you say what the Holy Spirit GIVES YOU to say. you don't ADD to it, and you don't "Edit" it. It's FROM HIM to use in ministry of HIS word. That alone should be a strong reason to seek what He has for you.
You're perpetuating a myth. Unfortunately, you don't have enough discernment to know when you're being conned. Your not alone though; you have lots of company.

So what?
Who cares?

Peter did not lay hands on the Gentiles, who Spoke in Tongues, while he was just Preaching the Gospel in Acts Chapter 10.

Whether you lay hands on someone when you Pray, or not, is not a Method required to do anything but being a COMPASSIONATE HUMAN BEING who loves the person enough they're Praying with to gently place their hand on them while they Pray for them...

Some of these simplistic things that have you become so Entrapped over because this person or group of people do this and I don't want to or believe the same way and now it's my burden because...what...they won't listen to you?

Let it Go!
Give it to God!
Breathe My Brother!
Deep Slow Inhale.
Don't forget to Exhale now.
Repeat the process over and over and over (y)
The gifts have all ceased and required the laying on of the apostle's hands: they're all dead

Peter preached and never touched anyone in Acts Chapter 10 and they Spoke in Tongues.

Run along, I will tear you up theologically.

If you don't believe the Holy Spirit gave the disciples the ability to talk in different languages in order to spread the Gospel, then what do you think the ability to talk in tongues means? God would not give them the power to speak in gibberish. I am not parroting anybody or believing what churches say. I am being taught from the Bible by power of the Holy Spirit.
angry much? Calm down. That is false. Can you discuss without getting your so heated? Everyone here says they are taught by God or the Holy Spirit. Does not make you special OR right

The idea that all should speak in tongues is ridiculous. Those who say otherwise are perpetuating a lie plain and simple. There are things I'm unsure of, but on this I'm 100% sure of what I say. It's truly unfortunate that so may have been led astray by it.

I don't care how accepted and popular a denomination becomes, that doesn't mean everything they say is true. Numbers ≠ truth.

And doesn't that apply to all the denoms then. Baptists etc

1Co 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
1Co 12:5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
1Co 12:6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
1Co 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1Co 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
1Co 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
1Co 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
1Co 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

According to Scripture
1Co 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
1Co 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit;
Do you have faith is it of your self or from the Lord?

I wasn't angry at all. I have no idea why you took it that way. I was asking a legitimate question.
I came to this forums when the one I have always used was temporarily shut down. After seeing all the apostasy and the un-biblical thoughts and ideas here, it saddens me. My normal forums is back up now, and it is sound in
Biblical Truths and is scripturally sound, unlike here. I am returning home. I have no heart to argue with people who have their own take on the Bible instead of being taught by the Holy Spirit. I will pray for everybody on this site.

YES! If we all don't agree with you 100%, then we definitely are not being taught by the Spirit... we are all apostate, and un-Biblical...
I agree completely.... you NEED to go back to your "normal" forum... we certainly cannot live up to your high standards.

Well, I do agree there are a lot of heretical ideas around here; however, I don't believe pretrib is sound at all.
