I don't know about many of you but myself when I was younger I hated reading the Bible when my parents made me do it. I kind of got pushed into college to study youth ministry (because that's what my dad did at the time)...3 1/2 years later I never finished with a degree and owed 10 grand. I went the next 15 years or so without opening my Bible tho I had a faith in God that could not be quelled. I lived that time for myself and ended up in a divorce. 4 years later in 2010 I was baptized (my mom's proudest moment ). One year later my mom died. I fell a bit more. Then I was really diagnosed with a rare form of arthritis...ostio and rheumatoid. My rheumatologist had seen this type twice. Once in me once in my mom. I didn't let it get me down because of seeing my mom's strength and faith in God. I started to read my Bible a bit more next thing I know I have a library of Bibles, theological and apologetics books. Now at this point I love to study the things of God. And I don't mean just read but study in depth study. It's fun I enjoy it, it's not just a hobby but a way of life allowing the Holy Spirit to draw me closer to God. Allowing the Holy Spirit to do His sanctifying work in my life. I can no longer begin my day without God's Word a cup of coffee and a cigarette (yeah I know I'm a dummy for smoking :) )

I want other people to enjoy studying God's word as much as I do so I decided whether bad or good to start a forum on the fun of studying God's Word. Not sure what to do or where to begin but what the heck let's see what happens.

As long as someone keeps it Biblical let's see what we can learn together....what yinz think?

I was thinking working together learning new Bible study methods . Sharing how we study the Bible, topics or studies we do and maybe short little studies we could do together in different forms or processes. Just trying new things maybe we haven't tried before.

Basically learning God's Word together as a family of Christ.

With anyone who wants to post even a couple people I kind of disagree with we could still all learn in a civil family way. I will even invite some one I have come to heads with lately because that is what Jesus would want me to do.

It might work it might not but it's worth a shot.

Tho if we end up with trolls or someone not right for it we could just ignore or ask them to leave. Kinda one step at a time.

I also love studying the Bible, too; And find it to be a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Studies on:

God
Love.
Faith.
The 3 Major Words (i.e. the Living Word, the Spoken Word, and the Written Word).
Salvation.
Apologetcs.
Word studies.
Cross referencing Scripture.
Types of Christ.
Doctrines.
Themes.
Life Stories.
Commands.

I like experiencing the Bible with just me and God.
I like experiencing the Bible by discussing it other believers in person (And or online).
I like experiencing the Bible by reading commentaries and or Christian articles.
I like experiencing the Bible in movie form (All be it, not always perfect).
I like experiencing the Bible in comic book form (All be it, not always perfect).
I like experiencing the Bible in audio form.
I like experiencing the Bible by listening to Pastors (Either in person and or thru an online video).
I like experiencing the Bible by asking God to show new things that I know not (Jeremiah 33:3).

I never read a Bible comic book but I believe I saw you and someone else mention a "chick" thing or something like that. What exactly are those?

Have you ever heard of a guy named Paul E. Little? Two of the books he wrote are called "Know What You Believe" and "Know Why You Believe". They are apologetics books you might enjoy them.

Another book you might enjoy is a book called "Knowing God" by J. I. Packer.

These are books that teach with scriptural passages backing their points. I personally don't like "Christian" books that don't have Biblical passages in them because you can't see where the author might be getting their thoughts from.

Rick Warrens "Bible Study Methods" is pretty cool also. He writes about 12 different ways of studying the Bible. For example; Devotional, topical, thematic ect.

People are wired differently.
Some enjoy studying whole topics and some expositionally going book by book, even verse by verse.
I think both approaches give an even balance especially if one keeps in mind that all Scripture as a whole points to Christ...often too many go off on tangents majoring in the minors.

Chick Publications is primarily known for their mini comic books that have the gospel message within them so as to hand out to others and or to leave in public places.

You can check their most popular one here.

If you are looking for an actual Bible Comic Book, I would recommend this one here. Although it is not obviously meant to be a Bible in and of itself (Nor is it perfect), it is a nice way to look at the Bible in a new way (visually).

I am more into reading Christian articles and commentaries than Christian books. But thanks, though.

I believe you can't talk about the things of God without using the Bible. It is where a believer derives his/her faith and it is his or her authority.

That is so true. My wife and I are great examples of that. She needs more of a structured Bible study like Max Lucado where I can just study a certain subject by cross reference and what not.

This does sound like fun and I will try to keep it biblical and not to interject my take on the latest potato chip flavor or my love of crayons.

Next month, I'm doing a workshop at a women's retreat on the different ways to study the bible. I'm covering the various ways people learn. Some are visual learners, some auditory, some hands-on, and some even need to move.

One woman I know is an auditory person, but when she sits still and reads, she is easily distracted. Yet, when she walks and reads it aloud, everything is clear and she remembers what she read. Is it because she is putting a sort of rhythm to the words?

I need visual and probably have drawn the entire bible by now.

I also have written most of it out slowly. That is a great way to meditate on EACH individual word and sentence. But it is still visual.

Haha! Though snacks are good to have when studying. And crayons can work for taking notes if we lose our pen or pencil. Lol

I was just hoping to create a forum where we could learn off of each other but at the same time have fun.

Now I know there will be things we debate or don't agree with each other on but that's part of studying together and learning.

I just went trough a class like that at one of the churches I attend not long ago. It's pretty cool when you realize you learn that God speaks to you in a different way than someone else.

Once you see the way God speaks to you it kind of makes it easier for you study.

To answer you Elf3, it is for sure being alone with His Word that I hear Him best. And mornings seem to be that time of the day when I hear best.
