Immodesty is much more than wearing a short shorts or a plunging neckline, immodesty in act of drawing unnecessary attention to yourself it is putting your pride on display by what you wear.

As a Christian the way you act and the way you present yourself sets a tone for how the world see you and your faith. By being modest in your clothing you can give a great witness to those around you as great as your words can be. A problem a lot of non-Christians have with Christians is that some Christians are hypocritical. If you are preaching purity and modesty to others while wearing revealing clothes you may be seen as a hypocrite. Being in college I see this problem a lot. It is hard to believe and follow what someone is saying when they do not follow it themselves. By dressing modest you are allowing people to see your inner faith rather than your outer appearance. The best way of teaching is through people observing your actions.

"Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world." 1 Peter 2:12

Here's someone I met this past Christmas at a Christmas Eve gathering. At the same time I noticed how lovely she was, I was also noticing how buttoned-up and prim-and-proper she looked. She was in uniform, but it very accurately reflected her deep sense of self-respect. I was in a suit and bow tie myself (of course!) and we quickly hit it off to such an extent that we went to Midnight Mass together straight from the party. Heartening to meet a girl with proper Christian values who's not afraid to reflect them!
