Tough question. I had a teacher (in the Pennsylvania Bible Institute) say he believed a Christian who committed suicide would go to heaven. His explanation was "even Christians can find life too hard". I don't know if I believe this or not. I would like to hope it true. My grandmother committed suicide when I was young. My dad said she was a Godly woman.

So as to answer your OP from me...I don't know.

I have heard that some Christians believe that all people who commit suicide go to hell, and that other Christians believe that if you are saved and commit suicide you will still go to heaven. Those who say that all suicides go to hell point out that after you die as a suicide, you can't repent and will therefore be damned for the sin of murdering yourself. Those who say that Christian suicides still go to heaven point out that Jesus' sacrifice covers all sins, even those we will commit in the future or those unknown to us. I want an honest answer backed up by Scripture and logic. Do Christian suicides go to hell?As a side note, I am not writing this question because I am contemplating suicide or anything. I just want a right answer. Also, if suicide is an unforgivable sin, than why did Jesus say that the only unforgivable sin was "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit (Mark 3:29)."---Elijah19
I know I should of not read the posts but I just could not pass this up.

The Bible says when one dies they are dead and know nothing they do not exist any more for now till after Jesus returns therefore they are not going any place. The only thing of a person that does anything is the Spirit of God that all humans are born with it returns to God for safe keeping kind of like a DVD.

How one dies makes no difference death is death and after Jesus returns at the second resurrection the first was the few who died in Jesus and the few who are alive when Jesus returns. After the 1000 years the second resurrection will be of the many and they will all be mortal and given the truths of God and they will live in that 100 years were babies will also grow up and all will be judged for the first time then.

This was very short but to the point in a way so just study and God will help in your study.

Mac.

i suspect that there fewer people in hell than some here expect. as far as my own answer to this question: i have no idea, it's a management decision and i'm labor.
Amen, brother.

I believe it is unhealthy to demand a cookie-cutter answer from God about everything. He could have given us a flat out answer concerning this, but He chose not to. I also believe that it may be a big mistake to assume all suicides are the same. I think of the incident at Masada a couple thousand years ago. Those poor people were certainly not thumbing their noses at God. I believe that some commit suicide out of desperation and despair, while others may do it to place a guilt trip on the living. God knows our hearts and frames. Lets not judge the living or the dead. I believe it is wicked, cruel, and disgusting how some hard-hearted pastors have assured families that their loved ones are burning in hell. Sorry about getting a little over emotional on this one. Doesn't really matter what I believe on this, 'cuz "it's a management decision..."

You already answered the question in what you said.

What I have noted about the "if you commit suicide, you go to hell" theory.

This idea is based on a belief that a person goes immediately to Heaven or Hell at death. It supports the notion that if you die and have a sin that you did not repent of, you go to Hell. Therefore since you cannot repent from suicide (while alive), you must go to Hell.

This idea omits standing before the throne of God in judgement. For this reason and because of what Jesus said (as you posted above), the notion of suicide being unforgivable is a fallacy.

I hope this was as clear and concise an answer as you desired.

To the original post, the answer is No. The Bible doesn't teach that. We should leave such judgments in God's care. He is the judge we're free from that.

The Bible teaches that hell, as people may think they know it today, is not even in existence yet. Study Jesus's teachings about where the rich man went. If a person dies, where do they go according to scripture ? They go to heaven. Ecclesiastes .

In Paradise or heaven; the state of his soul is what what's being discussed by Christ's in that teaching .
For instance, look up the meaning of the word " hell " used in that verse. You find it means simply grave , or place an state of departed souls. But no more. Knowing that little bit of info , the rest should make sense, when you read the words like flame, torments, or the water, and what is the significance. Study it.

Where are you getting this definition? From the dictionary or the scriptures?

I have heard what you are saying before and while it opposes what I was taught growing up, it sounds like something to consider and should prove to be an interesting study.

I don't know the answer to this for anyone else.
But for me personally, I know a motivating source to not destroy myself, knowing these scriptures;

(1Co 6:19)
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

(1Co 3:17)
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

For those who've succumbed to such anquish, what can we say but sympathize with the anguish of their souls? To pray for them and forgive them before God, for as a Nation of Royal Priests that we are, what more can we do?
