Here is a question for you, which do you see sin in the most you or other people? For me personally I only see sin in myself, not that others don't sin but i am far more aware of my own sins than others. In fact when I meet most people my first thought or reaction is usually a positive one. However that is me personally not everyone else.

If we see sin in people yet see ourselves as righteous in any way what does that say about our character? Do we really have any room to judge others? Are we really more righteous than them? the answer to both of those is no. And yes I know the scriptures that speaking of righteous judging but that is not the judging the bible speaks of Judging is also a word used for discerning things, while its also a word used to actually judge others in a negative way.

I try very hard not to judge other people, and only examine my own heart with regards to sin. However, I find myself sometimes making unfair judgments on people, and on occasion, righteous judgment, when real sin is obvious.

On self examination:
"Be angry and do not sin;
ponder in your own hearts on your beds and be silent. Selah" Psalm 4:4

"How many are my iniquities and sins? Make known to me my rebellion and my sin."Job 13:23

"When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away Through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I did not hide; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"; And You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah."Psalm 32:3-5

Right Judgment

"Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment." John 7:24

"Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man- you who judge those who practice such things, and yet do them yourself - that you will escape the judgment of God?" Romans 2:1-3

"You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye." Matt 7:5

On helping sinners know that they have sinned:
"let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins." James 5:20

just read today in 1st Corinthians " judge yourself and you will not be judged". I see my own faults above other people's. the Holy Sprit helps us with this if we listen.

Actually, I don't mean to sound self-righteous, but I really don't see sins that much in myself or others. Mostly because of the business I am in. I see needs - I look past the sin. I know we all sin (me included) but still I am much more into the healing of the need to sin.

That could be just more of a surrender to the Lord. Or repentance. Or a need for intercession. Or a truth seen that might set them free, or give them a new perspective. Or a deep hurt healed through prayer. Or an emptiness in them that needs to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Etc.

Yet, know that I call sin, sin.

I tend to be very hard on myself. I always have to remember WHO I AM IN CHRIST - casting down those imaginations and every high [false] thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, [what he says about me in Christ] and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ [again who I am in Christ because of HIS obedience].

True lot of us see our sins more than others and some of us like me are very hard on ourselves, but I sometimes remember a time earlier in my faith when even though I knew I was a sinner I felt pure and clean not because I was but because I saw myself as the Lords child and thus I saw only him in my heart.
The heavy burden of only seeing the darkness and sin compared to being free of such thinking and just having a child like heart...
Honestly I think i had it right back then, I do not think he wants us to bear the heavy burden we carry and that we should live in his grace.
Lord please help me and all others to remember who we are in you because we surely need it

It's not wrong to point out evil behavior. Saying that Hitler was evil in what he did is not wrong. The Scriptures say reprove the unfruitful works of darkness. While I don't make it a habit to attack a person directly, I do have a right by the Word of God to reprove and correct others according to God's Word (2 Timothy 3:16). I do have a right to say that the Pope and his church he is under is false. I do have a right to say that prosperity preachers such as Bishop Jakes wrongfully teaches that Godliness is gain (Which 1 Timothy 6 forbids). The key in judging righteously is making sure you are being led by the Spirit, you are doing so because you love them (and not because you hate them), or because you are into just mud slinging. For Paul, Peter, and the author of Jude had judged others. In fact, when you have a moral code of right or wrong, you are judging whether you say anything or not. For example, I was talking with someone, and I expressed to them my belief about a particular sin that people do (Because they brought it up). They asked me, who am I to judge those people who do such things? Yet I did not speak ill of these people. I just told them that such a thing was a part of my beliefs according to the Bible. Yet they were upset that I was judging even though I was not specifically trying to throw any stones at anyone.

The key is knowing when to speak righteously against evil is by the leading of the Spirit. For you will notice that certain apostles at times would judge someone, the Spirit was mentioned as being present with their judgment. But even in our judgment, there must be love. Their must be prayers later for that person. For a man of God wants to see all people repent (Including their enemies). Yes, we must confess our own sins so as to be cleansed of all unrighteousness (i.e. sin). Yes, we must ask God to have mercy on us in not being as perfect as Christ in reaching the lost and helping those who are less fortunate. But that is what grace is for. To help us to be perfect as God is perfect. But to see people as perfect when they are in need of a Savior or when they need to perfect their walk or understanding of God is to put on a blindfold so as to ignore their problem. For it is not wrong for me to tell someone who is a drunk that they need to stop drinking or they are going to kill themselves. For that is why we preach repentance and Jesus Christ crucified. People need to repent because they are sinners in need of a Savior.

I see more sin in worldly people because they aren't even trying, where I have been filtering sins out of my life for years as I grow to become more like Christ. But just because I see this doesn't mean I judge them. I am a sinner too, and I know there are only two kinds of people in the world- saved and not saved, but all have sinned. I have compassion for their souls- to try to show them how to be saved like I have been. Although I am very confident in God's power to save me, and that I am saved, I'm not arrogant about it, but actually even more humbled knowing that I did not achieve salvation on my own merit, but only that He gave it to me as a gift because I strive to obey Him. I view my future brothers and sisters in Christ as kidnapped royalty. And I know that I can't win them back to God unless His love, humility, and compassion shines through me.

Interesting, I have often wondered. Since it is the holy spirit that convicts a heart of sin, if I point out someone's sin to them, would that do any good? I would think risks hardening their heart against recieving the holy spirit. Personally, I would hesitate to run toward someone threatening my condemnation, but readily would openly receive one who offered to share sanctuary with me. Ultimately, it is God who saves and God who convicts. I'd rather think that is the best way, and all I can do is point to the Way.

Scripture does not condemn making judgment as such, just making hypocritical or false/unrighteous judgment and condemning brethren. Let noone be confused about this. We all judge daily, and we better make sure we make righteous judgments (which Jesus told us to do - John 7:24, and which God loves - Ps.37:28).

Paul judges Elymas the sorcerer:

But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said,
"O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season."

And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

(Acts 13:8-11).

Peter judges Simon the Sorcerer and tells him to repent:

And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, "Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost."

But Peter said unto him,
"Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity."

Then answered Simon, and said,
"Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me."

(Acts 9:18-24).

Paul tells the Corinthians Church to expel the immoral brother:

"I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person."

(1 Corinthians 5:9-13)

good posts across the board.

sometimes, we are indeed to pass over a transgression.
one of the reasons is, the person will eventually be convicted
in his own heart, by himself, but at other times we are to point
out the sin, if the Holy Spirit convicts us to do so -
And then at that point, it requires the understanding of what
degree to correct, whether with a soft voice or the rod,

if we correct in-correctly, (we need correction ourselves).

it is a long-learned art to know and discern when to speak and when to keep silent.
God[s timing of course, is the critical factor and our submission to His will is also the critical factor.

I agree with the consensus.. Everybody judges, we can't live in this world without doing so. If we're content to overlook sin, we might become complicit with wrong-doing. While we should not go around condemning others, or ourselves, its important to recognize our short-comings and the sins of others. We can't get better if we ignore sinful behavior, pretending an offense didn't occur can be tantamount to condoning it. "He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD" (Proverbs 17:15).

O.K. I am going to be honest here....I used to look at other people and say I'm not so bad....but I was hard on everyone including myself....I was also younger then when this attitude prevailed......Since getting older and realizing that being hard on everyone including myself was not the way to think or go.....

I have realized that I have no right to judge anyone as I have broken all 10 commandments literally and when I look at the life of Jesus - His perfect life I am immediately put in my place as a sinner in need of a Savior. I am lost without Jesus and as I fall at His feet in submission He lifts me up and tells me you are saved by My blood. When I look around all I see are sinners in need of a Savior and how to help them find Him... What am I doing to lead them to Jesus?

I still fight against being judgmental and I pray not to be these days I am still hard on myself more than others, but it is Jesus that saves and it is God's right to judge not mine. Praying for that humble heart and keeping my eyes on Jesus trusting Him to lead me where He wants me to go and to help show others the way to Him.
