One of my former students discovered a wonderful "stem group" or "transitional" fossil. Its scientific name is Gomphotaria pugnax. It is the ancestor of the walrus, elephant seal, and sea lion group. What will not be published in the textbooks is that he "discovered" the fossil one morning while taking a "call of nature" in a fieldwork setting. Looking down, he was shocked to see he had "washed off" a bone fragment.

My way that gets you 4.54 billion years for the age of the earth seems to me to be a little more "accurate" than your way that gets you 6,000 years.
