I dunno the answer to this question, but I am all for equal pay for equal work...never gonna happen though at least it has not in my lifetime....maybe it will in yours.

Other than that I like men to be men and women to be women.

Depends on how you interpret feminism. I like being feminine. And if feminism means that I get to act like a woman, I don't see how it contradicts scripture.

Agree with JL, I think the Bible has specific roles for men and for women, that's not to say women are thought any less of - we are just expected to carry out different roles. Jesus was very kind and forgiving to women generally. I think God expects us to be feminine not feminists.

I also agree with JL on the equal pay issue, in Biblical times married women wouldn't have had jobs as such, their job was to keep home and care for the family - no mod cons such as washing machines in those days lol. Assuming women were valued as men then they would surely have had equal pay for doing an equal job equally well.

I would venture to say that the radical feminism of the 1960's is not in harmony with God so it would follow that it is not in the bible.

Women are to be cherished and treated as the weaker vessel, honored and loved.

The bible is against abortion which is a big thing in modern feminism.

I found that the meaning of feminism is "the theory of political, economic and social equality of the sexes". Nothing is mentioned about abortion, etc. It is more about equal pay, treated as equals as men in work places, having positions of equal importance, etc. What's wrong with that?

I see this is something that Christ would work towards. Not every woman has a well-to-do man who will treasure her and keep her and even support her. Many times she is left alone in the world. She must have the same equality in the working world that a man does. In essence, she becomes both mother and father to her children.

**Warning: Diatribe**

Here is my problem with feminism. On the surface, it declares to support strong women and to teach the equality of women with men.

Now, here is the problem. It is true that women serve in equality with men to God in this life. It is also true that we must support strong women. However, Feminism teaches that EQUALITY means SAMENESS. This is not true, for no man is the same as his neighbor. Each and every human being is a unique creation of God, called to different vocations in the Body of Christ. While the right arm is equal to the right leg, they have different positions and responsibilities to the body. So too is it with the different sexes. It is not right for the arms to walk and the legs to pick up and manipulate things. So, it is not right for men to serve in the place of women or women in the place of men. However, both services are vital and equal in their importance to the whole of the Body of Christ.

Feminism teaches that women are capable of anything a man can do. Again, on the surface this may seem true, but once followed upon its logical path it stumbles immediately. Not all men are capable of what each man can do, and not all women are capable of what each woman can do. God formed us each in the womb of our mothers to serve Him in the ways and paths that He has disposed us to through His grace and divine plan. So, again feminism like all false teachings place in front of themselves as a mask the truths (or half-truths) of the belief, but when looked at further it is apparent the falsehoods contained within. To use or apply the judgment of Christ upon the Pharisees. Feminism is a "white-washed tomb."

Now, it is immediately apparent the cancer within feminism by seeing its fruits. Abortion, divorce, lesbian pride, a reworking of history, etc. But how do we combat this?

The answer is simple. By humbly showing the strength and character of the Christian woman. By being strong mothers showing their children the sanctity of the female spirit and body. By honoring our strong women, and by praying for God to strengthen those who are in despair. By humility and charity, the world will immediately be brought face to face with the truth of the Gospel, and the plan of each and every person.

As you pointed out, feminism can be distorted by people wanting their own agendas.

It's just one more thing that can be so distorted that even the dictionary definition is not seen anymore.

Just another thing Satan will use to divide the Church. Same thing could be said about male chauvinism. Stupid absurd ideas to elevate one person over another. Same exact reason Satan was booted from heaven...pride! Be who you are not what the world says about who you are. First and foremost YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD!

Just be the person God wants you to be..Shoot He already created you exactly as He intended. Live you life for the Glory of God. Show those "feminists" exactly what a Godly woman looks like.

I know I am going to get slammed for this but I will give my imput. With the roles given to men and women they are not equal to men and never will be. The bible is clear that man is the head of woman and Christ the head of man. Now because we have become far removed form the Bible women want equal pay for equal work. Yet in proverbs 31 the wife is not out working but working from home. A woman who has no husband is to be taken care of by her family (parents first).

Proverbs 31:10

10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Woman are valued the same as men in God's eyes, we may have different roles but we are valued the same. to say that man is better than woman is absurd. the woman is to be the mother and the man the dad, if you try switching this I can't promise it will work. its like the body of Christ, we each have different roles skills gifts and abilities to play out in God's plan, that doesn't make anyone better or more highly valued than the other does it?

If anyone has a problem with women being as good and valued as men then they have me to deal with

[TD="width: 593, align: left"][h=1]What does the Bible say about feminism? Should a Christian be a feminist?[/h]
Question: "What does the Bible say about feminism? Should a Christian be a feminist?"

Answer:
This question is especially important to Christian women. Does the Word of God address feminism? The modern concept of feminism was not present during the time that the Bible was written, but that does that mean that the Bible has nothing to say on the basic issues of feminism. Even when the Scriptures seem to be silent on something that affects us today, there are eternal principles that speak to the underlying issue.

First, we should define feminism, since the term can have different meanings for different people. Basically, feminism is a philosophy that advocates equal rights for women and men—socially, politically, economically, and in other ways. Early feminists fought for and won suffrage for women. Today’s feminism goes further than demanding equal treatment of men and women, however. Modern feminists fight for language equality (saying “chairperson” instead of “chairman,” even if the person in question is male) and gender equality (redefining femininity and masculinity). The more radical feminists actively seek to overthrow any vestige of male dominance in society, to the point of opposing the biblical roles of husbands and wives, defending abortion on demand, and promoting lesbianism. Radical feminists deny there is any difference between men and women, teaching that any perceived differences between the sexes are due solely to social conditioning.

Modern feminism is a counterfeit solution to the real issue of the inequality of women in a sinful society. Feminism arrogates to itself the right to demand respect and equality in every aspect of life. Feminism is based in arrogance, and it is the opposite of the call to the born-again believer to be a servant. The modern, militant feminists call women to rise up and rebel against the order that God has given to mankind. That brand of feminism seeks to impose humanistic values in direct opposition to the Word of God. Feminism was originally a positive movement, focused on giving women the basic rights God intends for every human being to have. Tragically, feminism now focuses on destroying all distinctions in the roles of men and women.

What then should be a Christian’s view of feminism? A believing woman, who is seeking to obey God and walk in peace and grace, should remember that she has equal access to all spiritual blessings in Christ. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). A believing woman should not allow herself to be used as a pawn in the worldly agenda of the feminist movement. Men and women have a God-given privilege to fulfill the plan He has set for us. Rebellion against that plan and the arrogance that seeks to put self above God’s Word bring difficult consequences. We see those consequences in the destruction of the relationship between husbands and wives, the destruction of the family, and the loss of respect for human life.

“For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world” (1 John 2:16). The principles of the fall are present in this verse. Eve believed the lie that eating the fruit would bring her wisdom. She lusted, and she took something that was forbidden. This is the basis for the modern feminist movement. Women have bought into the lie that feminism will bring them the power and freedom they think they want and deserve. However, the promise is empty, for the premise is rooted in pride—and pride goes before a fall (Proverbs 16:18).

The last decades have seen the rise of a society that is so concerned with political correctness and so sensitive to being “offended” that civility has lost its way. However, this is really nothing new, for there has always been inequality in the world. It is sad but true that artificial barriers have always divided humanity—barriers that have no basis in God’s Word. It is sin in the heart that causes inequality. It is sin that causes men to treat women in ways that are meant to demean or objectify them. And it is sin that seeks counterfeit solutions to counteract these inequalities. The only true cure for inequality is obedience to God’s Word. If men and women would walk in obedience to God’s Word, radical feminism would be seen for what it is, and the harmony that God has ordained between men and women would result.

I am a feminist and a conservative Christian. I don't see the word "role" anywhere in the Bible, although there are household codes which could have been specific to the time they were written.

The Bible is an inspired document, which gave more and more freedom to women as the centuries passed. Zelophehad's daughters were given an inheritance of land, which is mentioned five times in the Old Testament. Christ allowed women to sit at his feet and learn, in a culture where women did not sit at the feet of a rabbi, nor even learn reading and writing! Paul commends numerous women who were used of God, like Priscilla and Phoebe, and all the women in the closing of Romans 16! These women were freed from the cultural mores of their day because they were people God loved, and died for!

That is the true goal of Christian feminism, to free women to serve Christ. While many conservative men would like to limit women from serving in the church, it is ironic that this trend is totally unbiblical. I certainly do not believe in abortion, and I have been married 34 years to my husband. Sadly, some secular feminists have given a bad name to feminism, which I deplore. But so much needs to be done in the world before Christ will return, and Christ's work is best done when all the members of his church are mobilized! Over 50% of the church are women, and unless they are given permission to do more than cook for pot lucks or teach junior church, the mission of the church, which is to make disciples of all the world, will never be accomplished.

My goal as a pastor and a Christian feminist is to see women empowered to be disciples, and for the gospel to be spread throughout the world. That is true feminism, as much as some people don't like it, and hold to unbiblical positions such as roles and women being oppressed and limited because of bad doctrine!

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Gal. 3:28
No roles, no positions, everyone free to serve Christ!

On one end of the stick we have men who completely dominate women. On the other end of the stick we have women who wish to rule over men. Both have gone too far. In the middle, slightly toward the men is where God wants it to be. He wants men to lead but not over dominate. The church is the bride of Christ. Does he force His wife into submission- no she chooses of her own free will. When you change the way God intended for things to be you will have ciaos. It started out as funny- TV shows that showed the wife treating the husband like a child and/or putting him down. I've even seen it in children's Bernstein Bears Books. I didn't allow my children to read them because of the disrespect to the father. And look now- shows like Everybody Loves Ramon. I still watch it when there is nothing else on, but I don't like how she treats him. And now you have the children who are bossing around the parents. I see it in almost every place I go. Children are to obey their parents- so since people do the opposite of what God says, it won't be long before we have Childism. So I would say yes- that feminism is against the bible, as well as male dominance. Remember satan fell out of heaven because he wanted to be above God. It is sure a red flag when that is someone's goal- whether male, female, or child.

I do agree with equal pay for equal work. But I don't agree that both parents are working and no one but daycares are raising kids.

elf3, you had an interesting comment (which seems to have disappeared!) about me being something different than a feminist. I am going to pray about your words, and see if I can indeed figure out a different "label" for want of a different word, to call myself. I guess egalitarian might suffice.

Perhaps it is God's will that I separate myself from the word feminist, which I admit has such ungodly connotations!
