I know we have lots of people at all different points in their walk with Christ.
So many people have it all backwards in they try to burden babes and new believers with work that God intended THEM to do.
Too often I see hypocrites who demand others to follow what God has told them to do, to help others, to give to the poor, to visit the sick, to do all these good works which are good but I truly believe that God has for each of us a different task and we can not tell others what they should and should not being doing in terms of good works.
God gave us unique gifts and He does not expect us to be everything to everybody.
He gave us unique bodies and He does not expect us to eat the same diet as others.
Often I read the Bible and I see how some people were chosen to be set aside and only eat certain things like Samson or John the Baptist. However, Jesus was not on the same diet. He ate fish and drank wine, while John only at locust and honey and things found in the wild.
Where am I going with all this?
Mainly that God's path is different for each of us. We have some things in common: same Spirit, same salvation. However we are all different parts of the same body. in that we are different, we are taught different things about our task on earth and given different skills. Yet we have the same purpose: to do good works that glorify God's name.
So I thought if we move beyond Faith, beyond the understanding that we are saved through the blood of Christ and redeemed from our sins. If we truly believe ourselves the children of God, how do we go about adding to our faith?
What does Peter mean when he says "
[h=3][/h][SUP]5 [/SUP]But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, [SUP]6 [/SUP]to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, [SUP]7 [/SUP]to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. [SUP]8 [/SUP]For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 1
What is virtue?
How do we gain knowledge?
What kind of knowledge are we seeking?
Why do we need self control and why does that lead to perseverance?
How are godliness, brotherly kindness and love related?
How do we display and bear the Fruits of the Spirit?
Just something I've been meditating on for a while. What are your thoughts?
How would you explain it to a new believer? Or a young child who is just learning about God and His ways?
