I think I am constantly guilty of evangelizing for myself and saving people so I can have a notch in my belt if they are saved, I just realized this

I understand what you are saying but I, I, and myself does not save anyone....we plant, we water and God gives the increase....

You know....our society makes much ado about numbers and at the end of the day some of the greatest men/preachers of the bible would have been considered complete failures by our modern line of thought...for example....

Noah preached a LONG time and only 5 other than Noah believed....
Jesus at one time only had 11-12 and was worried that they would leave him and in deed did scatter the night he was smitten.

You know, I have witnessed, preached, written a book, been on radio, TV and internet for the last 25 or so years off and on and have not worried once about the numbers as it is God that gives the increase and in my view...even if it is only ONE...it was worth it!

Based on your posts you seem like a Christian that wants to always correct others without being helpful

I don't know if I have even helped saved anyone or not I just know that I cannot do much for God in this life due to my living conditions so I do what I can on here for him and for others. If I do evangelize It won't be for myself but rather for God and for others and God gets all the glory credit and honor regardless of what I may have done.

Are our motives ever purely pure? The important thing is that someone came to Jesus. He'll take them from there.

Being a young Christian I don't think I've ever actually helped someone to become saved. I am always a bit unsure of what to say, and I am normally scared I will say the wrong thing. Now that I have written this out it makes me feel as though I have not trusted the Holy Spirit to give me the correct words. So that's certainly something from here own out I will work on.

I have had conversations with my girlfriend, where I felt the need to correct something that she had interpreted wrong. And at the time it came to a point where I was overcome with the feeling that I was arguing (for lack of a better word.) for the sake of me being right more than trying to correct whatever she had misunderstood.

I feel really lousy about it now looking back on this. At the beginning my intention was to correct this misunderstanding, but it quickly turned into being more important that I was right than anything. -- Certainly something I am going to work on, and not have a happen again.

*Just so its understood: We do study together and ask one another to bring up when we think the other one has misinterpreted something and so forth so own. I was not just randomly attacking her.

I think we were all once this way. It's kind of a pride thing and for sure I was way guilty of it for some time. My belt had so many notches it fell apart lol.

Just get before God and ask Him to show you if your doing it for pride or for Him. He will let you know. But be ready, as in my case, if it's pride then He kinda slaps hard lol

Like my dad told me (after I went through it) "if your worried about it. Then most likely your doing it for the right reason". (This was after my whole pride episode as I got worried about doing it for me or for God)

Perhaps Mr. Worry is Mr. Pride's subtle friend?

To answer Blain - most of us forget that the foundation of evangelizing is to pray for others. And being in the circumstances you are in (homebound), you are probably called to be an intercessor. Great ministry! Behind the scenes, but so powerful.

The one who prays is partner to the one who speaks. Same work.

Allow me to correct you in an effort to be helpful. :p

How is correcting someone in error not helpful? He was politely sharing with you what "he" has experienced and learned; that it might be a blessing to you. Why have you become offended?

Proverbs 12 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
2 A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

Well first of all I had no ill will and or a negative spirit whatsoever at all when I made the post...so if you took it wrong, maybe get right with God and don't be so easily offended which is a sure sign of spiritual immaturity.....

Amen and I agree...I was just posting my own personal experience and scripture that proves that the results are up to God....I was like WOW...what a response as I had no ill will and or was not being mouthy or negative in the post I made....Thanks for understanding exactly what I was doing Markum1972....!

Isn't evangelizing most the work of the Lord, through us, for the lost, to save the lost? Who has a dire need? The already saved? The Lord Jesus, Himself? No, rather the one facing judgment and hell.

Its not about numbers or bringing people into the kingdom. Its about being totally obedient to God when He has called you to be. Either spending time in prayer for others or telling the person in the hospital bed beside you the glory of Gods son. We have to be obedient with what God calls us to do, leaving the bigger picture up to Him. A vessel of living water that God uses to shine His light to the broken and dead in sin. Mmmm all who are hungry and thirsty come to the living water and you will never thirst again.

We don't evangelize ourselves for Jesus.

He equips us and either sends us or brings others into our lives when we are filled with His Spirit...when we are full of mercy and love in equal amounts as we are of truth. Truth given without these things only turn people away.

Matt1626. Good that you noticed it :) Ask Him what the underlying need is in you that you do that and ask him to look at it with you. I have been noticing in me a need to be noticed and I see that that comes with a need to be praised and gloried. These must be unmet childhood needs because I also see in me the need to give all glory and praise to Him and to be satisfied with being noticed or not. I just keep laying it all at His feet and resting in him trusting that he will do the work in me.

We share the Good news with others not for our sakes but because God has been merciful to us wretched sinners. We are awestruck by God's unmeasurable mercy and love towards us by saving our souls through cleaning us in the precious blood of His only begotten son Jesus Christ through faith and by the presence of His Holy spirit that was put into our heart that continues to inwardly conform us, to the image of Christ our LORD. It is for the cause of Christ and the Father's mercy towards all of us that we evangelize (share the Good news). The following words spoken could not better describe our motivation for evangelizing ....

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.I once was lost but now I'm found, was blind but now I see. Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear. And Grace my fears relieved. How precious did that Grace appear the hour I first believed. Through many dangers toils and snares I have already come. Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far and Grace will lead me home.

Btw, GodisGlorious that is a really cute baby in your avatar. May it be so that God the Father richly blesses the life and path of that cute little baby with good things, in the name of the Father (Abba) the Son, Jesus (Yahoshua) Christ (the Messiah), and the Holy Spirit even so let it be, Amen. :)
