One day in 7 is dedicated to God and on that day we are commanded to burn ourselves with hot irons and cut deep gashes in our flesh and gouge our eyes out with sharp sticks.

Because that's what God likes right?

No? That isnt what God likes?
We just rest? That's how we serve God? Just by simply resting?

10 percent of our income is dedicated to God therefore whenever we get a paycheck we are commanded to go to the bathroom and flush 10% of it down the commode.
Because that is what God likes.
God likes to hear the sound of hard earned money being flushed down the commode.
Right?

Even if 10 percent of our income is indeed dedicated to God what makes you think God wouldn't want you to spend that money on yourself?

I wish we truly understood what a tenth means in scripture. God knew when He told Israel what manner of king they would have rule over them. The king appointed and his servants also know what it means. For truly possession of anything is only nine-tenths of the law!

How about right here?

Mal 3:9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
Mal 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own

Yes I know that but what does that have to do with stealing God's tithes?

I thought it was obvious.

The tithe is clearly old covenant

Hebrews 7:5
And indeed those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they have come from the loins of Abraham;

Mat 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Christ seemed to think they should tithe.

If you give your money to TV evangelists or someone telling you that your money will spawn a faith seed and you will be blessed for it, then you might as well flush it down the toilet.

Ask God where the money goes. Could be different each time, not that long ago God told me to buy a young lady selling the Big Issue some shoes, money for me is tight and I am like Seriously, I don't even have enough money myslef, what you talking about God, but I was nagged to death for hours, then I say, OK I get it, I will do it. Cut a long story short, I found a perfect pair of knee length boots which were only ones left and had another reduction applied to them. I then find out she is a Christian and she had been standing in wet feet all day as her shoes had holes in them.

That was in effect a tithe, God provides me with food and shelter, that is all we need nothing more, God told me to do something back, I did it, the money I spent went on helping another Christian, even though I did not know she was a Christian.

God provides us with means to live, to work and allows us to be in work, therefore it is only right to say thanks and give some back to God as a thank you, you can even give back something that does not involve money, such as providing service or skills or whatever and I do not mean doing stuff on Sunday service which some people use as an excuse not to give.

Call it tithing, giving or donation or whatever, at end of day its all same principle and one that God does honour and bless when you do it for right reasons and have the right attitude and thinking over it. Give money to a preacher in hope that you get more back, guess what, you wont.

Mark 7:9-13
[SUP]9 [/SUP]He was also saying to them, “You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. [SUP]10 [/SUP]For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, is to be put to death’; [SUP]11 [/SUP]but you say, ‘If a man says to his father or his mother, whatever I have that would help you is Corban (that is to say, given to God),’ [SUP]12 [/SUP]you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or his mother; [SUP]13 [/SUP]thus invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that.”

If you're saying what I think you are saying, then you are wrong. First of all, we are not required to tithe, but we are told to give freely. Secondly, if you are keeping 9/10ths, then where is the logic in keeping the remaining 1/10th (if your intention is to please and obey God). Your comment sounds very much like Mark 7:11.

But, I don't have a problem (and I don't believe God does either) with you not giving your free will offering to the Church. You can give to God directly by helping those around you. Some people think that you must give your money to the Church and then the Church will decide who receives financial help. But, I believe that a stronger connection is made when the money is given on a more personal level - and without the delay that there would obviously be if someone has to be contacted before the help can be given. I know that was a little wordy, but I was trying not to say anything other than what I intended to say.

so instead of taking care of your parents you should just donate that 10 percent to the church?

So, we just discard all of His teachings because after all, EVERYONE He taught was "under the Law". How is it a person can be a follower of Christ and not do what He says to do?

Luk 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Dear Brother, we have to rightly divide the Word of Truth

How do we do that? Rightly divide Christ's teachings? Some of them are incorrect? Some don't apply? and then we read this...

Luk 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Oops, is that a misprint? Should it have said...

Luk 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by SOME OF THE WORDS of God.

So if I bring some of the food from my harvest into church this weekend, all will be good?

If we're going to take that path then let me answer a question with a question. Is Obama your high priest?

???? Non sequitur. How is it that if I believe that all of Christ's teachings are applicable, Obama is my high priest?

He is a politician and his lips are moving.
