can a person be saved in a pew, or does he have to go to the altar? do they have to wait until someone makes an 'altar call' ? can it happen outside? can they be alone? do they have to be with one, two other people .. ? does it only happen underwater? when they eat some bread and wine?

I was saved in the back seat of a Chevy Blazer! I've been walking with Jesus ever since!

"Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 15:30-31

I don't think the where is as important as the "how"!

Matthew 10:22 You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Luke 7:50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Interesting question, Actually it is a great question since In 1 Tim 2:4it is written "Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." then it would be relative to oneself to when they received faith.

So the principle of the Gospel should which help one distinguish between when they first started 'believing' and when they received 'faith'.

In answer to your question......Any time, any place, anywhere. All it takes is one to ask Jesus to come into their heart to submit themselves to Him.... The Holy Spirit will come in and give the gifts of repenting and then we are able to ask for forgiveness and the Holy Spirit starts His work of changing us from the inside out. Usually we then want to share this good news of the gospel with others and the process starts all over again in those we share with.

Anywhere, anytime, when we decide to make a conscious decision to change our ways and give our lives completely into the hands of the Lord :)
The most beautiful and life changing decision any human being can make for sure!

As a little girl, I'm sure that it was the day I asked Jesus to come into my heart. I really believed He was there. A part of me.

He has never left - and now I know that He shared in the sinful life that for a time I went into. The cross had more meaning to me when I saw it that way. He shared what I did with me. And then carried those sins with Him into His death.

Any where. I know two people that were saved in a restaurant, yes you read that right. I was personally saved in a parking lot. When you ask God into your heart and mean it, you're saved.

If a man on his death bed asks the Lord into his heart, and is sincere is he not saved? Or a solider on a battlefield?

I don't think it matters.

Interesting question for sure. I was saved along time ago in my bedroom alone just God and I and I asked Jesus to be my savior and to lead me into a new life. When I received the holy spirit I knew right off the bat because I got this really warm feeling that went through out my whole body. When I was baptized, my testimony reflected that I was now looking at myself from the outside looking in. I saw what I was and what I had become. God has been with me through many trials and tribulations and I know if I stay on the right track He will pull me through whatever it is that I am going through. I love Him with all my heart and soul and look forward to spending eternity with Him praising joyfully with all of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Baptism is when you get saved (1 Peter 3:21, Acts 2:38, Romans 6:4, Acts 22:16). There is nothing powerful or magical about the water, God does the work when you obey Him. So it can be any body of water that is enough to fully bury your old sinful self to be raised a new creature alive with the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 5:17)- Who marks us for salvation (Ephesians 4:30). Baptism is how we get into Christ, and those who are in Christ will be saved.

We consider it an emergency. If you drop to the ground having a heart attack, do you wait until another time to call an ambulance? Do you wait for an invitation? No, if someone realized they needed to be baptized in order to be saved, right then a christian should have a quick talk with you to make sure you understand what you are doing, that you no longer have the mind of a child, and that it is a lifetime commitment. Then you should be baptized immediately- even if it is in the middle of the night, even if it is in the middle of a sermon- someone should take you aside and and begin the process. Do not let anything hinder you if you are serious, because your spiritual state at the point of death is now sealed for all eternity.

I saw on the news once that an airplane crashed into a house, and those inside died instantly, and whatever their spiritual state was is now sealed for all eternity with no other chance of changing it. My brother in Christ also told me of a time that he was at church and the roof fell- killing many people instantly, he himself came close because the people in the pew behind him died. You never know, your days, hours, minutes, and even seconds are not in your control.

Once you come in contact with the life-saving blood through baptism, you keep in contact with it by taking the Lord's Supper in the assembly of the saints every first day of the week. It is unleavened bread (most view as a cracker) without yeast to make it a fluffy bread- because it symbolizes Christ's body without sin. And the fruit of the vine (grape juice) is pure to symbolize how Christ's blood was pure. Now when water flows through the grape seed it produces grape juice within the grape- therefore it is ok to use considerate and add water. But you cannot add anything else, and it cannot contain alcohol. I know this juice was called wine in the bible, and we call juice with alcohol wine today, but no matter what you call it, Christ's blood was pure and the symbol of His blood must also be pure. When Jesus performed His first recorded miracle of turning water into wine, He did not make it to have alcohol that people could get drunk on it. He knew how much they were drinking- which is why they ran out. Jesus did not support the sin of drunkenness. The drink He made was pure grape juice.

Jesus says, "I AM the Bread of life." And He says, "Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:54 But you first have to be baptized into Christ before you start taking the Lord's Supper. And you have to examine yourself before you take it, to agree that you are walking in the light to the best of your ability and not still living in sin (There is a difference between visiting somewhere and living there). Because whoever takes of the Lord's Supper in an unworthy manner is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of Christ (woe!).

Now the church is the bride of Christ, and He only has one bride (body/church). So if you were baptized into a false religion, and realize this, and get into His true church, do you need to be re-baptized? Let me answer that question with a question. In Romans 7:1-4 it tells how we were married so-to-speak to Moses (spiritually speaking of course). And that he died and we are now married to Christ (so-to-speak). Now if you were getting married to someone new, would you say to them, "We don't have to get married cause I have already gone through the process of getting married"? They might say, "Yeh, but not to me!" Yes, Christ has only one body (church) and you have to be baptized into it. I personally have studied many religions and have found only one to match the one true church of the bible- the Church of Christ, but you need to study on your own and see the true church for yourself.

thank you all for the replies;

it seems like most of you who responded believe what i've been thinking - that God is able to save a person anywhere a person is able to pray to Him - literally anywhere, in any company, under any circumstance.

except for the last reply above mine - Kaycie, i'm glad you replied, thank you - it sounds like you're telling me that salvation depends on human sacraments, not on God. i fully believe that we should be obedient and be baptized in H[SUB]2[/SUB]O and remember the Lord every time we share food --

but when i was young, in a cold cabin in the woods, snuggled in a sleeping bag at night, when every one else was asleep, i thought about things i'd been told and things i'd read and i believed, and i prayed, and put my trust in God, handing over my soul to Him. weeks later after returning home from camp, i waited with baited breath every sunday for the pastor to ask if anyone wanted to be baptized, because i sure wanted to. God had put a voice in my ear telling me it was proper for me to do so, so i kept looking for the time. at that time i already had hope i was sure of. i knew that the Spirit had already washed me and that i was justified before God. He was already working in my life tearing down strongholds and building me up into an image of His Son. something like 2 months went by before i ever put on a ceremonial robe and stepped into a ceremonial bathtub.

so was i not saved at all, even though i had been given the Spirit of God and my heart and mind were already being regenerated and renewed?

the Church i attend now holds a formal communion service only two or three times a year.
do i lose my salvation 9-10 months out of the year because i'm not taking part every week in a ritual?
does God reject me or leave me behind because of this?

this doesn't make sense to me, like most of other replies do. it sounds more like religiosity than truth .. ?

I say they can be saved wherever they are when convicted and enlightened by the word dia the Holy Spirit......Today is the day of salvation....Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God......in the pew, at the altar, in the yard on a lawn chair, on their knees facing East matters not.....salvation comes when and wherever the one believing exercises biblical faith....It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe!

Posthuman,

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me. I understand how you can feel God's Spirit before baptism, I have had several experiences myself since I was a child. But what I'm saying is you can not rely on feelings or good intentions, and if God speaks something in our head that is not found in the bible, then we are being deceived that that voice is God's- for in the bible He gave us everything we need to know, and if something in our head goes against that- then it is not from God. And one thing I learned is that children and babies don't need to be baptized.

We cannot get our salvation by a feeling or a voice in our heads. Proverbs 14:12 says that there is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. In 2 Samuel 6:7 Uzzah had good intentions to help catch the arc of the covenant to keep it from falling, but what he did went against what God said- that only the Levites may touch it. Many people will say to Jesus Lord, Lord, but the will not be saved because they didn't actually do what He said to do. (Matt 7:21). We have to actually make sure that how we are saved and how we worship matches what the bible says.

God determines how often it is normal for us to eat (whether physically or spiritually by feeding on His Word). He sets in place how often we should take the Lord's Supper, and upon the first day of the week is what the bible says. Now do I believe that if you miss one week you die spiritually? No, I believe it's like this- how long can you go without eating regularly before you die? How long can you cut off the blood circulation to your finger before it decays and falls off? What I know for sure is that if we do it upon the first day of the week as the bible says, that that is often enough for God. If it was months apart-that's God's judgement call, but I am sure ones' disobedience to purposely not do it every first day of the week would be considered in that judgement. You may call it a ritual, but God calls it obedience. Will God reject the disobedient? The bible says yes.

You say this sounds more like religiosity than truth- but what is truth and where do we get it? From a feeling in our heart? From a thought in our mind? Or from scripture which comes from the very mouth of God (2 Timothy 3:16)?

If you feel in your heart that you are saved outside of baptism- that would mean that baptism does not save (If your feeling is correct). And if this were true, then God is made out to be a liar when He says in 1 Peter 3:21 that baptism does save us. If we go by thoughts and feelings alone, then what use is the bible to us?

I have a question: why do you think Christ established His church? For what?
