Have you ever truly contemplated the meaning of Holy Rest? I have a few opinions myself but would like to know what you think on the subject too. I hope to hear some good feed back. God bless everyone!!!

The verse that comes to mind for me is Matthew 11:28 "come unto Me all ye that are heavy laden and I will give you rest..." so to me rest meaning trusting in the Lord when I'm uncertain, to know that He will guide me, He is aware of my concerns, He's not sleeping and He will work it out for good. So I can relax-if He's taking care of the sparrows-He can take care of me.

Hebrews 4:1-2

1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Absolutely wonderful and correct reply. Thank you :eek:

We have entered into His rest by faith as He is our Shabbat/Sabbath.

Hebrews 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

entering rest
Heb 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering
into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

how did they came short?

Heb 4:2 For indeed we have had good tidings preached unto us,
even as also they: but the word of hearing did not profit them,
because it was not united by (faith) with them that heard.
they did not have faith.

Heb 4:3 For we who have believed do enter into that rest;even as
he hath said, As I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest:
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Heb 4:4 For he hath said somewhere of the seventh day on this wise,
And God rested on the seventh day from all his works;

entering into that rest is connected with the seventh day.

Heb 4:5 and in this place again, They shall not enter into my rest.

Heb 4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some should enter thereinto,
and they to whom the good tidings were before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience,

God said they will not enter His rest, but they failed because of disobedience, the 7th day Sabbath

Heb 4:7 he again defineth a certain day, To-day, saying in David
so long a time afterward (even as hath been said before),
To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts.

Heb 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day.
Heb 4:9 There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God.
Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.
Heb 4:11 Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience.

A rest remains, but notice the issue is do not disobey.

Heb 9:3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle
which is called the Holy of holies;
Heb 9:4 having a golden altar of incense, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was a golden pot holding the manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;

the pot of manna was put in the most Holy

Deu 8:2
And thou shalt remember all the way which Jehovah thy God hath led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or not.
Deu 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by everything that proceedeth out of the mouth of Jehovah doth man live.

God tested them for 40 years to humble them to see what was in their hearts. that they should live be every word
(10 commandments spoken by Gods own mouth) not by bread alone.

Exo 16:4 Then said Jehovah unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.
Exo 16:5 And it shall come to pass on the sixth day, that they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.
and how long did God prove them with the manna?

Exo 16:32 And Moses said, This is the thing which Jehovah hath commanded, Let an omerful of it
be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread wherewith I fed you in the wilderness,
when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.
Exo 16:33 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omerful of manna therein,
and lay it up before Jehovah, to be kept throughout your generations.
Exo 16:34 As Jehovah commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.
Exo 16:35 And the children of Israel did eat the manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited;
they did eat the manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

40 years. this is being spoken of in Hebrews:

Heb 3:16 For who, when they heard, did provoke? nay, did not all they that came out of Egypt by Moses?
Heb 3:17 And with whom was he displeased forty years? was it not with them that sinned,
whose bodies fell in the wilderness?

Heb 3:18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that were disobedient?
Heb 3:19 And we see that they were not able to enter in because of unbelief.

Hebrews 4:4-10 "For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise,
And God did rest the seventh day from all his works [Gen. 2:2-3].

And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief :

Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said,
To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest,
he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his."

The LORD created the seventh day (Sabbath), blessed and sanctified it "because that in it he had rested from all his work".

This was applied unto the children of Israel and them being brought into the land of promise which they failed to enter due to unbelief and the fact that they received the lies of the 10 lying spies over the testimony of Joshua and Caleb.....same is true of us...there is a rest to be found for God's people from sin and the burden/bondage of sin....when we walk by faith we enter into a rest and a peace that passes understanding, but when we lack faith and or refuse to acknowledge the truth we are allowed to wander in the (wilderness) of sin which results in one test after another which over time wears us down and results in no true peace and or rest that is available unto all believers dia Christ......

Rest is knowing that no matter what the circumstances, you know in your heart He is in control and taking care of you.

Always thought of it this way, also, peace with God through our Lord Jesus. I believe all natural men have a restless conscience, and the temporal things of the flesh can never satisfy, are more like drugs people will never get enough of. Without Christ, there is no such thing as absolute peace, knowing why, knowing who you are, where you are, and where you're going, secure in the knowledge of Him. There is always fear in the unknown, in the darkness.
