Psalm 25:5 "Lead me in your truth and teach me. For you are God of my salvation. On you I wait all the day."

Waiting on the Lord is not an inaction but an action; "wait in obedience, as a servant; in hope, as an heir; in expectation, as a believer. This little word "wait" is easy to say but hard to carry out; yet faith must do it. Wait is a continued walk along the narrow path. (C. H. Spurgeon)"

Waiting on the Lord is a trust in God (Psalm 2:12)

A trust that He is in control (Isaiah 46:10, Daniel 4:35)

A trust that He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5)

A trust that you will not be tempted beyond what you can bear (1 Corinthians 10:13)

A trust that thru rough times God is helping you grow (Romans 5:3,4)

A trust that He cares for you more than you know (Luke 12:22-28)

Waiting on the Lord is rejoicing in the Hope of the Glory of God (Romans 5:2)

Waiting on the Lord is worship given to God (Psalm 95:6)

Waiting on the Lord is to praise His Holy name (Psalm 97)

Waiting on the Lord is a total and complete surrender to God.

Waiting on the Lord is allowing God to guide and direct us thru the Holy Spirit.

Waiting on the Lord is our faith in action.

I keep waiting on the proverbial crap to hit the fan and the world to spiral down the tubes to destruction and the God of heaven to rise and burn it all with the fire of his indignation while vindicating Himself, the Saints and Israel..... ;)

Can't ever help but think of Psalms 27, when "waiting on the Lord" comes up,

Psalms 27

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
8 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
9 Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
11 Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Yeremyah 17:5-8, "This is what Yahweh says: Cursed is the man who trusts in man, who makes flesh his arm; strength, and whose heart departs from Yahweh. For he will be like a bush in the desert, and will not see success when it comes, but will inhabit the parched places in the wilderness; a salt land not inhabited! Blessed is the man who trusts in Yahweh, and whose hope is Yahweh. For he will be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes. Its leaves are always green; it will not be worried in the year of drought, and never ceases to yield fruit."

Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Psalm 46:1 "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."

When we wait upon the Lord, He is there in our time of need. What a comfort we can have when we wait upon the Lord.

Until about 10 min ago I had no idea why this was my Bible study this morning.

I feel as if God has been leading me in a certain direction. God gave me the car and he gave me the keys. I have been sitting in the car waiting for it to start. I was waiting for the Lord. I wasn't waiting on the Lord. We have to turn the key for the car to start. We have to take action. If we don't take action the car won't start. God is calling us to action.

Take action by waiting upon the Lord.

Where is God calling you to action?

Great thread, Brother.

This verse hit hard earlier today - Matt 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

I felt the weight of unlooking non-believers and how we behave toward each other and all that Jesus said about "by this shall all men know that you are my disciples" ... loving one another and that being on a forum - goodness - we are more than a city set on a hill that cannot be hid but on international cyberspace and we owe it to "the world" to consider His Words on that topic. Ouch!
The waiting part comes from getting offline for a while and letting His voice come through to my head and me not jumping to reply. I may love everyone here but my words don't always give that off and that's being seen by an unsaved world that He holds me responsible To.

Loved the OP. Thanks!!!

Thank you and I wish I could say it was my study but it was all the Holy Spirit on this one. I actually started a different study and ended up with this. Talk about the Power of letting the Holy Spirit guide ya!

I feel the same way. We get so caught up in these debates on here that we forget who is reading. I'll be the first to admit some of my posts are not exactly the best loving posts and I am ashamed of them.

I want to thank my good friend on here who thru her singing and music writing also encouraged this study by allowing the Holy Spirit to inspire her. Kinda neat the way the Holy Spirit worked this. Thru her then thru me now hopefully to encourage others.

Trust is built each day, is not something already made. We learn to wait on the Lord, to trust, through His Word, without it, it would not be possible.

I have days like that. Not sure that it's right, but I have days like that too. I must wait upon the Lord and trust Him to carry me through the rough days. Although anger visits, I must not let it build a nest in my hair :)

Thank you Elf for this thread.

Waiting on the Lord goes against our natural tendencies of "micro waving" everything today, and expecting God to do the same.
Waiting on the Lord makes us settle down - and learn to take deep breaths.
Waiting on the Lord causes us to put our time frame aside and learn that it's just numbers on a clock, days in a calendar.

Think upon the awesomeness of His patiently waiting on us to turn to Him in complete surrender.

Wait on the Lord, as He waits on us?

2nd Peter 3:1) This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. God isn't waiting on us. And the OP is not the type of "wait" you are thinking of I think.

He is actually waiting to bring His judgment, but in our daily lives we need to understand that when we are in need we should be willing to go to the Lord .... and wait for His answer .... rather than taking matters into our own hand

This hard to do, but know that what ever we want must be in accordance with His will .... other wise He will not move

He must work with many variables in order to make perfect decisions .... He does not make anything else but

Hold on..God isn't "working" with any variables. That's to say that God's "decision" relies on things we do. God already knows the end, He already knows what we will do. What you are saying is we can "surprise" God. As if God says "oops I didn't see that coming". That thinking puts God in a box controlled by our actions.

Besides this type of "waiting" has nothing to do with the OP. This isn't a sit there twiddle your thumbs type of "waiting". Wait upon the Lord is action.

Let me explain in an example what is meant by "wait upon the Lord":

Two people both need a job. Person one prays to God for a job, sits in his chair and waits for the phone to ring. Person two prays to God for a job and goes out and fills out applications. Person two then goes and fills out more applications while waiting for his phone to ring.

Who is actually "waiting on the Lord"?

Obviously person number two because he is actually doing his part. He is actually glorifying God because the Bible tells us in Proverbs 19:15 "laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger.". If we don't act upon "waiting on the Lord" we suffer hunger and enter into a deep sleep.
