I am saying brother YES!! There can be no sin, unless someone brings it. hehe Sin was not in the world until someone brought forth the evil to give birth to sin yes?

OK,
Show me something that is evil that is not sin.
Show me a sin that is not evil.

Well, for one, I asked you first. Second, did you switch sides?

I am saying evil and sin are the same thing. For your questions will lead a person to that conclusion.

Third, if you haven't switched sides on this point, and you believe sin and evil are two separate things, you need to give me examples. Otherwise you are just making an assumption with no real evidence or logic.

Must be some miscommunication. I was rather adamant that sin and evil are the same thing.

I personally think that evil is the result of sin.. Eve sinned when she was disobedient to God, the result was the knowledge and effects of evil.. Evil is the result or fruition of sin.. They pretty much go hand in hand, its kind of like asking what the difference is between dirt and mud. jmo

To me brother oldhermit evil is a person, and sin comes from the deliver. Sin was born from evil, for without evil, where is the sin? I want to make this simple,so here to me is simple. When you receive a Christmas present, the present did nothing, until the person brought it to you to have. Can any sin be evil? How can it not, when it is evil who brought the present in the first place. But as you well know, before the devil came, there was no evil, hence there was no sin. Sin is the temptation, one does not have to commit the sin,but one who is evil, looks to bring temptation to you. that is the difference to me bro.

Evil: That which results in pain, sorrow, or distress. In order to convey the correct thought in English, the very comprehensive Hebrew word ra‛ is variously translated as “bad,” “gloomy,” “ugly,” “evil,” “calamitous,” “malignant,” “ungenerous,” and “envious,” depending upon the context. (Ge 2:9; 40:7; 41:3; Ex 33:4; De 6:22; 28:35; Pr 23:6; 28:22) The Greek word ka·kos′ may be defined as that which is (1) morally evil and (2) destructive; among the ways it has been translated are: “bad,” “evil,” “hurtful,” “injurious,” “wrong.” (Ro 7:19;

Sin: Anything not in harmony with, hence contrary to, God’s personality, standards, ways, and will; anything marring one’s relationship with God. It may be in word (Job 2:10; Ps 39:1), in deed (doing wrong acts [Le 20:20; 2Co 12:21] or failing to do what should be done [Nu 9:13; Jas 4:17]), or in mind or heart attitude (Pr 21:4; compare also Ro 3:9-18; 2Pe 2:12-15). Lack of faith in God is a major sin, showing, as it does, distrust of him or lack of confidence in his ability to perform. (Heb 3:12, 13, 18, 19)

The cross of Christ did not put away evil, it dealt with the sin of man that separated him from God. All sin was crucified and buried through the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. That was a judicial act motivated by the love of God when the Father sent his Son to be crucified. This present evil world under the control of the evil one (the prince and power of the air & the god of this world system) is motivated by evil (poneros) through magnifying sin and iniquity within the heart and practices of those who are of this world of which we were called out from. Evil has a doctrine and unfruitful work that does not recognize the sacrifice and blood of Christ that has crucified and put away sin.

Love covers a multitude of sin, but evil is motivated to expose sin (not convict) to discredit the blood of Christ, the work of the cross and slander the people who commit such sin. This is how the mystery of iniquity operates in this present evil world system in which we live. The gospel is motivated by the love of God with the message that Christ was crucified for our sin and suffered the wages of our sin through death and the shedding of his own blood. Evil does not recognize this act of God's mercy upon the human race and does everything in its evil power structure to take away from this and substitute the pleasures in this life and all kinds if diverse lusts to involve people through the flesh.

Today we face a network of indulgences of the flesh motivated by evil all over the world. Our refuge is that Christ has overcome the world and through Him we overcome the wicked one, but for those who are in unbelief, they need to light of the gospel to shine unto them that Christ has put away sin and has made a way to overcome evil.

my Cross His Put Away evil.
His Cross THE CROSS.
Victory In Christ.
"we always knew there were reasons." :)
Blood He Cross He. The Saviour The Lord TheOne Holy Holy Holy Jesus Christ The Christ Amen

All evil is caused by sin. And all sin causes evil. They are not the same thing though.
All people die because of sin. Is dying a sin? Is getting sick a sin? Is getting your home destroyed by a tornado a sin? All of these are caused by the Fall, and are evils of this world, but they are not sins themselves.
Am I understanding the OP, or am I way off?
Like, our sin is taken away, but bad things can still happen to us, like dying, because we still reside in a fallen world.

Maybe my definition of evil is wrong, but it seems to me like evil is the motivation of sin, and the result of sin. I just don't understand what the implications are of the OP, or most of the responses. Please help me understand.

Did God create things that are evil inherantly evil? No. For example: Did He create evil mountains, or evil clouds, or evil stars, or evil animals? No, of course not. To suggest such a thing would be silly. To put it to you another way, we are not living in a science fiction novel where the Alpha 5 Mars Team discovers a mysterious dark matter nebula that is inherantly evil naturally on a sub atomic level. Disease and physical death can be labeled as evil, but these things are evil to man and not to God. These things are a form of punishment from God for our sin. These things were the result of sin and the Fall of man. Oh, and evil being present in the Garden to tempt Adam Eve was also result of the sin or rebellion of Lucifer. God did not just one day decide to create an evil snake. God did not create Lucifer to be specificially evil. Lucifer chose to be evil. There is a difference. There is no difference between sin and evil. They are the same thing because you can't separate the one from the other. I also can say all sin is evil. There is no sin that is good.

Evil is a mind set for sin to take place. Evil is unrightousness, evil cause one to sin, So in a sense evil is sin, because in 1 John 5: 17 says: All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death

Also, when Jesus said that a person lusts after another person, they have committed adultery already in their heart. Adultery is sin. So a person can commit sin in their heart just by having wrong lustful thoughts about another human being, even for a brief moment. John says if you hate your brother, it is the equivalent of murder, and he says no murderer has eternal life abiding within them. One of the reasons the world was destroyed by global flood was because men's thoughts were evil continually. Having wrong thoughts is just as sinful as acting upon them. So evil is not something that is internal stinking thinking or anything like that. Evil and sin are one and the same.

Is death evil or good? Is sickness evil or good? Is pain evil or good? Are any of these sins?

Sounds like you are blaming God. God is not to blame for mans sins. its the sins that causes those things you mentioned.

Those are all consequences of sin, but not sin themselves. Definitely not blaming God for people sinning.
