I'm using a phone and forgot how to do a poll, but I have a question which probably has to do with motives, but I think it's worth putting out there.
Do you think that even talking about the Bible on this site is a form of repentance?
At least for those really trying to understand and learn from others?

I'm not sure what you mean. To repent means to turn from your sin and to look to Christ and His sacrifice. To admit you've done wrong and to realise He's already paid the price. And to love others as you love yourself.

Being here distracts me from some of my sins and let's me focus more on my study. So I suppose in a way, it aids in my repentance by keeping my focus more on God and away from sinning.

Talking to others on this site is not a form of repentance, it is a way of walking in the light and gaining spiritual growth in your life.
Repentance is a change in mind toward the sins that caused you to be against God, and through that change of mind and the sorrow you feel to turn away from and stop doing those sins.

Repentance is to have a change of heart; to change from your old ways. In the O.T. days, how they has shown repentance is they will wear sackcloth and covered themselves with dirt or ashes in order to show that they were shameful of their sinful acts and want to become cleanse; but now we doesn't has to do that to show how we feel on the inside, because now we has out grown that; now we know that God know what our hearts is saying. Like the prodigal son, he came back to his father with a change of heart, but his father has still think that he is worthy to wear fine robes and rings on his finger, eventhough that his son felt as if he is no worthy than to be one of his father's servant.

I might also add: I searched this site while in major desperation trying to escape from my own sins, and being here has been a huge help for me throughout the couple years I've been here.

Repentance is a heart condition.

It is your heart submitting to God alone - it is acknowledging to God that you have erred against Him alone - it is asking God alone to forgive you and to show you how to walk in His righteous way.

Don't make it more difficult than what it is, beloved brother Jon4TheCross. There's no magic formula or circus hoops we have to jump through to get right with the Father. Repentance is a serious matter of the heart, but the Lord made it easy and light to get right with Him.

Repentance is your heart wanting to be intimate with the Lord and not hiding anything from Him. And Christ Jesus paid the price for your forgiveness on the Cross that you may come boldly to the throne of grace to be restored perfectly in God's sight.

I've been on more than thirty forums since becoming active on the internet
in 1997, and I can testify from plenty of personal experience that the
Buddhists, Atheists, Agnostics, and wise-guys discussing the Bible on forums
like this one are there for no other purpose than to instigate perpetual bull
sessions that never get to the bottom of anything; the meanwhile mocking,
ridiculing, twisting, and finding fault with Christ, Christianity, the Bible, and
the Bible's God.

If we are seeking The Lord in any way, how can that be a bad thing? We are turning to the Father.

Coming to this site is not repentance, but surrounding yourself with people of faith is definitely a good virtue. The fact that you asked the question shows your headed in the right direction. Stay true to the Lord and ask Him to strengthen you every day. It is His good pleasure to do so.

[h=2]Is talking about God on this website a form of repentance?[/h]

I come here for fellowship that I don't have where I live, but I'm a human being as well as everyone else here and there's times that when "talking about God on this website is a form of" squeezing me but good to get out what's still in me and I have to repent for just what I'm thinking, let alone what I'm saying out loud by myself or what I may have said better if I just got offline for a while and let Him cool me off and get His mind back. One can never tell all of the time if it's righteous indignation or a mix with our flesh coming out. I don't always know but it helps to get off for however long and let Him bring His peace back and give the words or tell me not to post at all. But I know I've repented enough being on any forum - just for what I was thinking or mumbling to myself.

I'd say that forum 'lead' to repentence. And have to admit that I had to stop laughing when this was the thought that came to my mind .... me mumbling here alone where no one but God and my cat can hear me.
If we'll give an account for every idle word - I believe that includes not only my mumbling but my thoughts as well.

Someone once asked, "What comes out when you squeeze a tube of mustard?" Well, we answered "mustard". Then he said that that is what the Lord does with us --- puts us in situations that 'squeezes' us, so that what's REALLY inside our hearts will come out and we'll be able to see it and know it's there and pray and make that effort of our wills to be rid of that stuff."

Forums squeeze us all but daily. Everyone reacts inside by what's inside of them and most of it needs to go.
On some forums - the PMs fly back and forth backstabbing or emails and that needs to go too.
So forums lead to repentance and are good for our spiritual health, by showing-then-knowing our true self or heart.
I reckon the one greatest sin is to not love others as we love ourselves and forums sure do show when we're outside of the love of God. Boy oh boy oh boy oh boy. Sure enough, we can't fake His love - He'll squeeze us to show us it isn't His. Amen.
Lord help us all!

toward God or away from God. (anyplace this could apply)
if someone becomes more like Jesus, laying down his life self-sacrificially and living like Jesus for others for the Gospel's sake, good, that's either 'repentance' or simply 'Christ-like'.
but
if someone becomes less like Jesus, grasping even tighter to himself his own life or possessions or money, that's continuing in sin, not repentance.

I think the word you were looking for was penance, not repentance.

"Motives" would be the key here.

IOW, if God has been striving with you via His Spirit and His Word and showing you that you need to change in certain areas and you're here to better learn how to genuinely make such changes, then, yes, your participation here could be rightly considered a form of repentance.

Ironically, just last night, I was wondering what my own motives are for posting on forums such as this one. I mean, I've been posting on different forums for about 10 years or so now and I'm not sure that I have anything to show for it. IOW, I'm not sure that I've ever actually helped anyone for the better, as much as I've tried to, and I've been seriously considering just dropping off of forums altogether.

Anyhow, may God bless you as you continue to seek Him.

Repentance isn't just turning away from our sins but it is a change of mind/heart to live with and for God. While I can see how one could think talking about the bible here and helping others learn is a "form" of repentance, it is not a form but a specific outcome of repentance. To say something like talking about the bible is a form (or type) of repentance is like saying your choice to follow God is based on works (having to read the bible to be saved which only faith in Jesus and repentance is what saves us). Repentance comes first because we hear about the grace of Jesus and what He has done for us. Then because of the grace we have received on the inside after letting Jesus in our outer actions are inline with what we believe. So talking about the bible, learning and helping others learn is because of the grace you have received on the inside from Jesus. Its part of bearing fruit and actions for what you believe in.

What is repentance and is it necessary for salvation?

What does it mean to be a fruitful Christian?

Thank you all for your replies. I pray we continue to defeat the sin in our flesh one baby step at time... or in leaps and bounds. Gods will be done.
