Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

which salvation is the verse talking about??
why does Paul specifically say with Fear and trembling??
How do we implement that scripture in our daily lives??
And to whom does that scripture apply?

Each persons own salvation..its primarily a personal walk..as Jesus said to Peter...never mind what I do with others , you follow me...only one salvation..only one way..acts 2v38 etc....through Jesus Christ....fear is also used as respect !..remember once a christian (a real one !!!) born again new start ..bought with a price..you are his child now..he will chasten if you err to much..those I love I chasten and rebuke..

would be more glorified than by His answering my prayer. In this instance, my ...
revelation, not only revealing God but also revealing what kind of person we are.

"As to this matter of waiting for the Lord’s second coming, there
appear to be two different concepts held among Christians. On the
one hand, some believers are set on improving the world, but
unfortunately they end up being defiled by it instead.
On the other
hand, others say that our responsibility is to rescue people out, and
that the improvement of this world must wait till the Lord’s return.
The Bible is not lax with respect to these matters. God has not
said that so long as sinners are saved and are assured of going to
heaven that that is enough. The Bible entertains no such thought. For
heaven is not a matter of individual salvation;

Notice that Paul said, "work out" your salvation and not "work for" your salvation. The Greek verb rendered "work out" means to continually work to bring something to fulfillment or completion. It cannot refer to salvation by works (Ephesians 2:8-9), but it does refer to the believer's responsibility for active pursuit in the process of ongoing sanctification. There are three tenses to salvation. 1. We have been saved from the penalty of sin (Justification). 2. We are being saved from the power of sin (ongoing Sanctification). We will be saved from the presence of sin (Glorification). Verse 13 continues, after a comma, "for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose."

Phil 2:12 "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."

=======================================================================================

"
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed".....we are to obey God as Christ obeyed His Father, Phil 2:5-8. Paul spoke in Rom 6:17 how the Romans had 'obeyed from the heart'.

"
not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence" It would be easier to obey in Paul's presence with His example and encouragement but more difficult in Paul's absence.

"
work out your own salvation" "Work out" means to not finish half way but carry the work out unto the end. Work on to the finish” (Robertson p. 446). “Carry out to the goal. Complete” (Vincent p. 437).

"Work out" shows man has a role in his own salvation in obeying Christ, Heb 5:9. No work = no salvation.

"This verse infers human free will. Paul does not say "work for" but "work out". One cannot earn or merit eternal life (Luke 17:10), yet man has duties and responsibilities in reference to the salvation given him by God (Romans 6:1 ff; Ephesians 2:10; Titus 2:14-15). The expression your own salvation reminds us that ultimately we have the final say-so over whether we will end up saved or lost. Our cooperation is needed. Barclay reminds us, “Without man"s co-operation, even God is helpless. A man may be ill and the doctor able to prescribe the drugs that will cure him; but the man will not be cured until he takes them and he may stubbornly refuse all persuasion...It is never God who withholds salvation (2 Peter 3:9); it is always man who deprives himself of it (Acts 13:46)” (p. 42) ."
Dunagan Commentary

Salvation is being saved from spiritual death in eternal torment.

"with fear and trembling." cf Eph 6:5.

Heb 12:28 "
Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:"

Why with fear and trembling?

"
For our God is a consuming fire" Heb 12:29

Fear NOT meaning afraid or cowardice but having reverence, awe, respect for God.

Barclay: “It is not the fear and trembling which drives us to hide from God, but rather the fear and trembling which drives us to seek God, in the certainty that without His help we cannot effectively face life. It comes, second, from a horror of grieving God. When we really love a person, we are not afraid of what he may do to us; we are afraid of what we may do to him. The Christian"s great fear is of crucifying Christ again” (p. 43)"

the "wherefore" there in v. 12 indicates this is not a 'standalone' phrase but a conclusion reached by the preceding argument.

we need to look back at the preceding verses for the whole thought:

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

(Philippians 2:5-13)

so Christ set aside His glory and humbled Himself, taking on the form of a servant among us, in order that the great glory of His grace could be shown to us.
likewise, (wherefore!) we ought also to humble ourselves, having received this hope and promise of salvation by grace. yes, there is no more condemnation for us in Christ, and the penalty has been paid, and He has put in us a spirit of adoption and glory -- but it is God working in us, not us achieving righteousness, and our righteousness is by faith, a gift, not by our own strength and goodness -- so in respect, fear and humility we should do the things that are worthy of the high place He has set us in, the same way that Christ, though worthy to be glorified above all of the world, instead of seeking His own honor made Himself lower than all.

the Lord has given us backstage passes to the kingdom of heaven -- while we were lawbreakers with no right even to step foot in the parking lot.
should we cut line, jump on the stage, and disregard all the bouncers because we've been honored?
or meekly get in the back of the line, trying not to draw any attention to ourselves, being careful not to disobey any of the rules for fear that this awesome prize will be taken away?

this is admonishing us to be meek, to remember that the great things God has for us, and does in us, are not because we deserve honor, but because He loves us and is showing great mercy to us.

It's a "work out" because it's first a "work in"...

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which 'worketh in' you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which 'worketh in' you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

amen nothing can be "worked out" that hasn't first been "worked in" !!

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

(Ephesians 4:22-23)

that's "be made new" not "make yourselves new" and the new self "created to be like God in true righteousness" in a passive, perfect, past tense!

lacking nothing in Christ!

Most important thing is that this is required of ALL of us. And we wont be done until the day that GOD takes us away..
Everyday, The Spirit of God works in us as much as we let Him. In every field of our lives.
And only pride, unbelief, fear and the likes can hinder HIM from doing so..

So a good question would be, How do we let the Holy Spirit guide us, lead us into working out our salvation?

We don't "let" the Holy Spirit do any thing. He is Lord...he 'let's' us do certain things like make a mess of ourselves and then we 'cry out' to Him.

I have to disagree with you there crossnote.
Gods personal move in our lives is in accordance to how much of Him we allow to work in our lives.

having be given choice
