II Sam 24:1 and 10.
And again the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and HE MOVED David against them to say, go, number Israel and Judah.

10And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the Lord, I have sinned greatly in that I have done, I beseech thee, O Lord, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

How is this David's sin when the Lord caused him to number the people?
It appears that The Lord is in check.

like i said elsewhere, and EVERYONE --- (i think) EVERYONE WAS(IS STILL) UNBELIEVABLY FLABBERGASTED SHOCKED BEYOND BELIEF - in the scripture, god lies, when he wants to, and is not sinning (as sin is something done AGAINST god, or contrary to his will....

just read the scripture - it is ALL TRUE ! (from god's point of view.)

well.
james 1:13 says "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man".
God has someone to do such work, and it is SATAN. THE DEVIL.
our God is not "the tempter". it is the devil ..
blessings

In I Chron. 24:1, it says that Satan incited David. So I would have to guess that read here in II Sam. it means that God ALLOWED Satan to incite (move) David.

By God allowing Satan to move DAvid to take the census, it was bringing to light the lack of trust he had in the Lord supplying the necessary men when needed. Maybe David needed to learn through this lesson?

God doesn't tempt us, but he clearly allows us to be tempted. We are all tempted every day. The bible tells us we are tempted by both the flesh and by Satan (meaning his demons, of course). Its not like He keeps us from ever being tempted ever. He just doesn't Himself tempt us. I would definitely say He allowed whatever demon was working on David do what he wanted to do.

The bible has many references when God allows demons to do things to us, even cause us real harm. It always serves a purpose. He never lets bad things happen just to let them happen.
Theres also the fact that if David had done this, he was already tempted to begin with. And God, knowing all the things you think and whats in your heart, saw this lacking of faith, and it caused Him so much anger that He went ahead and allowed David to make this mistake. It kinda reminds me of the story of Satan, he said many times that he was gonna rise above God and rule over heaven. I would imagine God heard every word of it, and went ahead and allowed him to do what he wanted to do. He never stops us from sin, but does hold us accountable.

Im just making a guess, I dont really know what happened :p

yes, the older I get the more I see that what James said of being tempted is true. we are led astray by our own thoughts and desires. you have to look and ask God to show you deep things, because sometimes we hide bad stuff behind good intentions.

Very good. Yes, the Chronicles account does identify who did the tempting. 2 Sam lets us know, that like He did in Job, allow the man David to follow Satan's will. We all have that position today, to follow God's will, Satan's will, or sometimes even worse, our own will.

In 2 Samuel God allowed David the number Israel and Judah, the 12 tribes. But Satan moved him to number the enemy too, the Canaanites, and all other "ites". The temptation from Satan was to measure the resources God had for him, as well as the resources Satan could instigate against Israel. David's generals pleaded that no matter how many enemy Satan had to us, God could make 100 out of every fighting man of Israel and Judea. David ignored that wisdom. He moved far beyond what God allowed, putting his special forces at great risk for over 9 months. It cost him much, and it cost the nation.
