The believer is a new creature in Christ and should never be identified by any form of sin. If we sin and confess our sin God is faithful to forgive us and cleans us from the unrighteousness of that sin and will not remember what He has forgiven, cleansed and put away through the blood of Christ. Satan would like to get the believer identifying with his sin and he does it by making the believer admit that he is guilty. Next he tries to get the believer to think that he will never be free from that sin and will fail again and again. He gets the believer to look in the past and confirms just how many times he has sinned and failed in that area. The more Satan is able to get the believer to think about his sin, even if he has confessed it, the more he gets the believer occupied with his old sin nature that produced the sin. When this happens repeatedly over and over the believer is little by little giving place to the devil and is being convinced that he will never be free from that sin. That is the insidious device the devil uses in the mind and guilt conscience of the believer to bring them back into bondage and take away hope.

Satan wants to get the believer yoked back up with his sin, especially the sin that he experienced so much of in his life. If Satan is effective in doing this he can destroy the capacity of that believer to be able to receive grace for every part of his life. The believer will find himself struggling with sin that Christ has crucified and cleansed and will identify himself with that sin and the lifestyle that goes with it. He will slowly begin to remove himself from hearing the word and from the fellowship of other believers. He will isolate himself and begin to think that he is not worthy of God's love and grace. He will withdraw himself from the things of God that edified and built him up in Christ. He will start to associate with others who are also drawn away and that is where negativity and bitterness sets in and he becomes very unstable and double minded. Instead of identifying with the cross and the body of Christ, he identifies with his own flesh, the weaknesses of the flesh and those who do not have victory over the flesh.

Satan has effectively brought that believer in his mind and emotions to a place that identifies with sin instead of Christ and being a new creature in Him. That believer can no longer see himself outside the flesh and no longer has a capacity to receive from God. They stop assembling themselves, they stop praying, they stop loving others and they do not any longer see themselves as a member of the family of God. Satan has robbed them of who they are in Christ and gotten them to identify with sin instead of with the love of God. They are now lost to the life that God had given to them through faith and they need to be lifted up and restored with an abundance of grace. They need intercession as Peter did when Jesus said that he prayed that Peter's faith would fail not (Luke 22:32).

Gal 6:1,2

6 Brethren, if any person is overtaken in misconduct or sin of any sort, you who are spiritual [who are responsive to and controlled by the Spirit] should set him right and restore and
reinstate him, without any sense of superiority and with all gentleness, keeping an attentive eye on yourself, lest you should be tempted also.

2 Bear (endure, carry) one another’s burdens and troublesome moral faults, and in this way fulfill and observe perfectly the law of Christ (the Messiah) and complete what is lacking [in your obedience to it].

Thank you for this post . . . All this poop on here sometimes can even get the strongest believer questioning himself!!!!

If only people could see who and what they are in and through Jesus Christ. . . . and know that is how their heavenly Father sees them.

Wonderful OP brother! When we keep our eyes upon God its pretty hard to be distracted by the forces against us. Like you say satan would love nothing more than us to focus on ourselves rather than God. A pastor at one of the churches I attend once said "Satan's biggest weapon against us is depression". When we get depressed in any way our focus turns from God to ourselves. As soon as we do that only God can get us out of it.

Here on CC we have access to brothers and sisters in Christ over the whole world. We should be in fellowship together studying God's Word. Like Peaceful eludes too, there is too much arguing and way too little fellowship. Way too little of studying God's Word digging deep into Scripture for truth. Way too little of the Gospel of Christ. Way too much "I am right you are wrong". We would not know any of this if it wasn't for God's grace yet do we glorify Him or try to show how much "knowledge" we have. I'll be the first to admit as I have done many times before "I don't know squat but God leads me to understanding".

our first pastor, now long departed, once said,

if you believe the lie, you live the lie.

how crucial to our understanding of this Life is knowing God in Christ
actually loves us...is with us and for us?

Great OP! It is very important how we think of ourselves. If we regard ourselves as saints rather than sinners, the chances are much greater than saintly conduct will follow according to the faith we place in God to regenerate us and our minds. If we think of ourselves as if we are the same old creatures, we will tend to repeat our old ways. Prophecy LIFE over yourself and others, bless and not curse.
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

I have seen so many people robbed of their joy, because they feel their sin has caused them to lose their salvation. This is a wonderful OP, which really tells the whole truth about our salvation.

"There is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1

No doubt...If we do that which we do not want to do (we being a measure of God), then it is not us who does it but the sin in the flesh...Romans 7

The greatest thing that we have as believers is a God who is faithful to what he has promised (Heb 10:23, 11:11, 1 Thes 5:23,24). He has promised that he will never leaver us nor forsake us in (Heb 13:5)...

5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Hebrews13_5.JPG

When we were enemies of God under bondage and being held in the grasp of the sin that was in us, God loved us and sent his Son to die and shed his blood and provide a way through him to be free from that grasp. This is something we are not to ever forget and should build ourselves up with this kind of faith and should keep ourselves in the grasp of this kind of love (Jude 1:20,21). God promised through the prophets that he would came after us through sending his Son and through the cross and the preaching of the gospel and when we believed upon the Son he gave his Holy Spirit to dwell within us as the Spirit of truth and grace and to testify that these things are so. God never withheld his promise from us and never left us without hope of salvation.

Since the time that we believed and have been placed in Christ, how much more will God give unto us through the promise of the the Holy Spirit?

Rom 8:31-34

31What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

1 Cor 2: 9-12

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

Is obedience to God a gift?

Is our righteousness before God a gift?

Is our Salvation a gift?

Is there anything needful to us that is not freely given by God Himself?

I think there is a lot of thanking that is in order... Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Jesus.

The longer that we go on as believers in this life the more we see how important the promises of God are to our walk of faith. At first they are promises that we see so distant from at times and then later those same promises become a part of our thought life that we we start to cleave to and believe God for. When there seems to be no hope or we are in a situation that seems hopeless, the promises of God are there to build us up and give us hope.

The lifestyle of sin played a significant part in our lives when we were young and frivolous but now that we are older sin is not as significant and it does not excite us as it once did in the flesh. There are some areas of the flesh that we may consider from time to time but sin does not seem to have the dominion in our lives as it once claimed. The more that we put off sin and the things of the flesh the less hold they have in us that we would give place to them. Many of the attitudes, imagination and thoughts we once has are not holding us captive in our will. The blood cleansed our slate and growing in grace and the word has kept our slate from being filled back up with things that lead unto death. We eat from a different table and drink from a different cup.

We desire to have life and we know that it has nothing to do with our emotions but rather faith in the living God. We don't stray away as we did in the past but we draw closer so that we can have the life of the one who rescued us. We are sheep that now stay close to the shepherd's tent. We have had the rod many times discipline us into obedience and we are thankful for those many stripes that have healed our crooked paths and made them straight. Things that we once reacted to have no place in our life because of the peace we have found in God's faithfulness and we know that God can be trusted in all things. He is never going to leave us, forsake us, lead us astray or tempt us with sin. But he will always lead us into the way of everlasting life because faithful is He who has promised. All of these things have come because we were placed in Christ when we first believed.

how important the promises of God are to our walk
AMEN from the rooftop! The promises of God are the only thing that the devil cannot argue with. Jesus used it to argue the devil because that's the only thing he cant effectively counter. "God will never forgive you that," says the devil. "Oh, but the Scripture teaches that He is faithful and just to do just that." Hehe - there is no further continuing!

But if we use the argument of our good works, the devil will always pull the contraargument of bad works, or simply estimate insufficiency of the good works! It is a piece of cake for him to find reasons to claim the right to destroy us. He is an ultimately effective accuser/prosecutor, so listing works is an ineffective weapon against him... the defense must be given to the perfect advocate (1 Jn 2:1) :)
