[h=3]The Fall[/h]3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked;so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

It seems to me when I look back on my life and on my own sinful patterns, they always come from from a place of insecurity....just like what Satan did to eve. He struck right at the heart of her relationship with God by telling her that God was keeping something good from her. Did she become angry at God? The scripture doesn't tell us that but imagine if you were told convincingly by someone, that someone you were close to had "deceived" you by keeping something good from you. Would you have a hint of anger? I believe that Eve acted out of anger (even if it was just a mild frustration) that God, whom she trusted, had lied or kept something good from her. Her anger was born out of the pain of feeling deceived or left out. Instead of processing her pain with the God she loved, she took Satan at face value and lashed out at God in anger and disconnected from Him?

Just knowing human nature and how easy it is to act out of our anger, instead of using anger for what is designed for (a warning to us that a boundary has been crossed or a core value violated)...... sin comes from our inability to process the pain in the moment that we feel and get to the "truth" of the matter.

The woman was deceived by two things which involved perception, (1) what the serpent said to her and (2) what she did with her eyes as she looked upon the fruit of that tree. She then made a favorable determination about the fruit, ate it and gave to her husband who also did eat. This involved iniquity from the father of all lies. Today women have to be careful about what they set their eyes upon because of the perception that transpires in their imaginations and thought life that controls the kind of appetites and desires they have. The woman has to be careful about being deceived because of those desires and appetites that can be expressed. I think that Eve gave to her husband of that fruit that she perceived to be desirable and did so because of her intimate love for him being of one flesh. The effects of original sin in the mind and heart of the human race has been manifested in so many different ways through out the ages and so much so that it repented the Lord, in time past, that He had ever made man and destroyed the earth with a floor except for those (8) who found grace in the eyes of the Lord through Noah.

As true for men as it would be for women yes?

I don't believe Eve was angry at God, it's just that she was deceived by the serpent. God said the day you eat of it surely you shall die, but the serpent said "you will not certainly die." So by not believing God's words and transgressing His command not to eat, sin came.

But also notice how Eve was enticed in verse 6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it."

This is much like the world, who sees with the lusts of the eye, judges by outward appearances, and desires things that God says to stay away from lest you die.

Are you French, no? Men have a different set of appetites and desires. Men take things by force and women do so by craftiness. Let's not have a war break out over this because I am generally speaking. It is easy to test this, just give an example of a situation and ask a few woman and a few man how they would deal with it. I think you will find that they will be very different because of their perception, their point of view, their methods and the outcome they desire. I am sure there will be some cross issues but their will be a basic difference between men and women when it involves appetites and desires of the flesh and how they perceive the outcome.

Sorry, your distinction falls flat in my opinion..............oh well.........you must have never heard the expression "sly as a fox" describing men..........that is craftiness......and you clearly are not familiar with how male Politicians act on a daily basis in Washington D.C.

And, even then...........when one reads the quote from you I posted, it clearly should apply to men. What they "set their eyes upon," "the kinds of appetites and desires they have." Both of these men must deal with every day.

Satan uses the same process today to ALL - men and women!

1) gets us to question the integrity of the word of God - Yea hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden.
2) we take time to consider/question
3) at times words are omitted - We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden - [what was actually said] - Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat
4) at times words are added - Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die - [touch]
5) at times the word is totally changed into a lie - Ye shall not surely die.

We are ALL enticed through the 5 senses - hearing, seeing, smelling, touching, tasting. The flesh is ruled by our 5 senses.

Agreed. But all of our experiences are filtered thru the emotional seat of our brain.

Romans 5:10 .) For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11 .) And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
12 .) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
13 .) (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14 .) Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

And our emotions are based upon what we have seen, smelled, tasted, touched, and/or heard. :D

I believe the scripture tells us exactly what Eve had done and why....

1. She saw that the tree was good for food<---lust of the flesh
2. She Saw that it was pleasant to the eyes<--lust of the eyes
3. She saw it was desired to make one wise<--pride of life

John said...all that is in the world is...

1. The lust of the flesh
2. The lust of the eyes
3. The pride of life

Actually I like that idea the OP made. Its not written, but this is something that you see in our world all the time. God is called cruel because He does not allow us to do whatever we want, but asks us to follow His will that He created for us with love.

I am not saying its 100% true : p But yeah one of satans tactics is to lure you into this "God is so unfair, why cant I have what I want? God is so selfish and self centered", I can actually see him putting this into Eves heart. He did tell her that God lied, by saying "surely you wont die". He did lead her into thinking He was hiding something that she may have believed she was "deserving" of.

But, no matter what, the source of sin is always desire. Its what lead to satans fall, and ours as well. In the end, Adam and Eve fell because they gave into their desire, even if they were deceived.

There are also lusts or desires of the mind which can also be shown there given she perceived it was a tree to be desired to make one wise

Ephes 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh,

fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

This was how she viewes it in the same

Gen 3:6
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise

Put it to the test and see for yourself what you come up with. We need to study the man and the woman. They are different in so many ways. They respond differently to the same stimuli. They react in their emotions differently. They have different roles in relationships, marriages and in the home. They have different levels of understanding and maturity and they grew up with a different set of circumstances unique to them. They have to come to an understanding in a marriage relationship because of those differences. All these things not only involve original sin but we also have an adversary, the devil, who uses the woman to get to the man like he did in the garden. He uses the man to dominate the woman not understanding they are one flesh. We have to have discernment as a man and as a woman so that we can apply the wisdom of God in the situation and not be subject to any strategies and devices of the devil who is continually seeking how to cause division in relationships and in the home to incapacitate and alienate them from one another to effect their relationship with God as husband and wife.
