So I'm not looking for debate. I just wanna talk about our eternal inheritance. The Bible says the Holy Spirit is our earnest of inheritance. Earnest means a small forwarded amount of the full inheritance to come. That means regeneration, baptism in the Spirit, gifts of the Spirit, fruits of the Spirit, and everything to do with the Spirit in us is part of our eternal inheritance of which we will recieve a much larger lump sum when we go to be with Christ. Imagining what that would be like is the unimaginable reward of eternity. It overshadows and outweighs any golden street or big dwelling. Holy Spirit will do so much more in us, I dare say we'll be possessed "of" the Holy Spirit.

Saved now from the penalty of sin. Then saved from the very presence of sin.

And all paid by the blood of Christ alone. Without Christ there is no inheritance. Without Christ there is no propitiation for our sins. Without Christ there is no peace. Without Christ all we have is a pinhole religion. Christianity isn't a religion, it's a relationship with Jesus. What an amazing thought that we can have the inheritance through our faith in Christ by the grace of God.

Earnest- small forwarded amount?

Is it not- guarantee?

The Holy Spirit being the guarantee of our eternal inheritance .. by His sealing of the Himself on our spirit/soul.

I think you actually are saying this.. maybe I just got caught up on 'small forwarded amount'

An ernest is like a motivation or downpayment. Its what you get when you enter the agreement but you get much more when its completed. It is sort of a guarentee but more of a showing of good faith.

Yep. Guarantee. Down payment. Earnest. The NASB says "Pledge."

The Greek is arrabon -- transliterated arrhabon -- meaning a deposit, or earnest money (a real estate transaction, and therefore a legal term) as a down payment as guarantee that the full amount will be paid as agreed. Note that there is no obligation on our part. We have made no promise and have no requirement in the transaction other than the God-give faith that has saved us.

Therefore, we literally have nothing of ourselves in the agreement. It is all God, and He offers up the down payment on our behalf -- and He is the Holy Spirit. Sealing us in Christ in this life, and guaranteeing our redemption in the next.

I agree Vig. Gods not the cable company who offers the $200 gift card and then ups your part in 6 months to get it back. Jesus payed for the full inheritance. Faith is the only currency God accepts.

I'm inclined to trust that God will fulfill all His promises. The Holy Spirit is there for my benefit should I doubt the intentions of God to redeem me at the day in the future when I am made like Christ receiving a new body made like unto His. Gods credit is good in my book.

God gives grace because of our doubts, so He gives reassurance. You may not remember roger but you didnt trust the Lord before you were saved and recieved your earnest. Nobody did, but it has that effect.
