I just joined a Facebook group called prophecy.
The people on there give each others prophecys

Is this biblical? And does it still exist nowadays?
And how do you get this gift?

This will be a big argument as this is a topic that has two sides. Some people believe prophecy is still active, others believe it is no longer active. I tend to not believe it is not active, but regardless of that i don't really believe this version they're doing is biblical. Christians, well, more casual Christians, tend to view prophecy as the Christian version of seeing a psychic. Go to a prophet for answers and guidance. Prophets weren't really people who just sat around sharing prophecies all the time and answering peoples personal questions about their lives just because they came up and asked.
Even if i believed prophecy still existed, what this group is doing i would not go anywhere near.

How will you determine if what they are doing is biblical? If what they are doing is unbiblical then they are operating with familiar spirits and God has commanded that we not do that.

Spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit not the will of man.

But have to tell you I left the group. I felt God saying to me I dont need that, that he himself will give me all the answers I need.
God was telling me to leave the group cause the chance was i would get to dependent on those prophecy people, and the lord was telling me to depent on him. I did not even want to leave at first because i wanted a prophecy.... But I know god was right
about this, so i left.

I feel the Lord taught me something a few years back? True believers don't follow after signs ...signs follow after them.

I meant that, yes, I do believe a form of prophesy remains, even today. But I don't believe it is a "get your 'reading' here" sort of thing. I was making some fun (shame on me) when I equated it to being able to buy almost anything at Walmart for $3.50.

You can find a bit of a study Here on the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit including the gift of prophecy as listed in 1Cor 12v7-11...

ALL these 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit ARE still available to EVERY Christian today and right up until the 2nd Coming of Christ! Acts 2v16-21,38,39

Those who say they aren't are simply fooling themselves and are NOT dealing honestly with the Scriptures on this subject. 2Tim 2v15, 2Peter 3v16

Romans 12:6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;

1 Corinthians 12:28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.

1 Corinthians 14:31 For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.

1 Corinthians 14:34 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

36 Or did the word of God originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached? 37 If anyone thinks they are a prophet or otherwise gifted by the Spirit, let them acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord’s command. 38 But if anyone ignores this, they will themselves be ignored.

39 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. 40 But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.

I hope you do not operate an automobile on the public roads. Don't follow the signs and get lost or have someone following you with pretty colored lights on their car.

What? ...anyway not looking for that debate...just trying to make a simple point.

Real believers have signs that follow after them...if you don't have some evidence of Gods power in your life...your might have some real problems?
