You said that you have known Hebrew for a long time, yet you did not make the argument that you should have made if you really had any language training to speak of. Can you make the argument based upon the Sch'ma of why Adonai is not a title of God?
I just did. Again, "Lord" is not a title of divinity, it is a title of station. And in the Shema, it is the same. Hear, Isra'el! The Lord our G-d, the Lord is one.

The word Adonai is not in the Sch'ma.

THERE IS A CHURCH NOT TO FAR FROM MINE

THEY HAVE 2 CAMPUSES
ONE IN MESA, ARIZONA
AND THE OTHER
IN GILBERT, ARIZONA
WHICH IS ABOUT 10 MILES APART
THEY HAVE ABOUT 15,000+ MEMBERS
NOW
I FIND THEM INTERESTING
THEY BAPTIZE HOWEVER A PARTICULAR INDIVIDUAL BELIEVES
THE OPTIONS ARE
IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER - SON - HOLY GHOST
OR
IN THE NAME OF JESUS
BUT
THEY REALLY DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE HOLY GHOST
AND SOME WHO ATTEND MY CHURCH
WERE ACTUALLY ASKED TO LEAVE
BECAUSE THEY SPOKE IN TONGUES

NOW
WHY DID I BRING THIS CHURCH
INTO A CONVERSATION ABOUT COMMUNION

BECAUSE
AFTER EVERY SERVICE THEY HAVE
WHICH INCLUDES
A FRIDAY EVENING
A SATURDAY EVENING
3 SUNDAY MORNING
AND A SUNDAY EVENING
AT BOTH CAMPUSES
THEY HAVE COMMUNION
AFTER EACH AND EVERY SERVICE
I HAVE PARTICIPATED TO SEE FOR MYSELF
AND
HONESTLY
THEY ARE REVERENT IN THEIR PRACTICES
WITHOUT THE MOTIONS
AND CONSTANT UPS AND DOWNS
AND SAYINGS
AND HAND GESTURES
THEIR COMMUNION SERVICES
REMINDED ME OF MANY OF THE PRACTICES OF THE CATHOLIC REGIME

I WHOLE HEARTEDLY BELIEVE IN COMMUNION
BUT NOT
312 TIMES A YEAR
OR
624 TIMES IF YOU INCLUDE BOTH CAMPUSES

Shema/Sh'ma. And yes it is. I just quoted it for you.
In the Sch'ma, Adonai is being used as a substitute for the divine name (Y'hovah), therefore the Sch'ma does not make Adonai a divine name. You do not truly know the Sch'ma or you would have known that.....

*facepalm*

I think it's you who doesn't truly know the Shema. You can't even spell it right, for crying out loud. Also, the divine name is the Unpronouncable, the Tetragrammaton, Yud-heh-vav-heh, or YHVH. "Y'hovah" shows a lack of reverence for and understanding of the divine name.

Yet you want to tell me that *I* don't know my own stuff?

You understand my conclusion. Not only did you have to look up what would have been the very first thing that you learned, you failed to notice the one thing that anyone with any knowledge of it, including a Gentile such as myself, would not fail to miss. Enjoy your visit. Don't try to lecture me about something that you are probably getting off of Wikipedia. I have no tolerance for posers.

Hah. I'm a poser? You don't even know what the Shema is. It's a verse in the bible, for starters. I have it memorized in three different languages. Anyone who reads the verse will see that it quite clearly says the same thing I said.

Everyone who reads it in Hebrew will see the divine name, not Adonai. Don't try to pose as a Hebrew student in here as I will call you on it every time.

I started communion almost every night for about a month now. It was put on my heart to do so.
I take communion during my prayers.
Because Jesus asked us to do in memory of him.
I saw no wrong in this.
In fact I have felt even closer to Jesus because of this.
I have never read where Jesus said you must do this and that first.
All I have read is , do this in memory of me.
God bless, pickles

Jesus said

'as often as you eat and drink remember me'

so the corintians used to get together weekly for what they called an agapa feast

some would bring their roast tukey and pate de fa gra(no idea how to spell that)

others would bring a dry old crust

others would bring their favourite port

there was a disinclination to share

Paul called them on it

so now it is a special ceremony

it is important to make sure there are no unconfessed sins between you and God
also, as far as possible, you have no outstanding issues with other people

failure to do that can lead to sickness or even the sin unto death

I don't know what Hebrew you're reading, but it's not the right one. I have two Hebrew translations in front of me right now, and they both say Adonai.

Without sounding too rude, we're not talking about who has more Jewish knowledge. I know you can't have Christianity without Judaism and the traditions are very important, but my question wasn't really about those traditions. To those that have spoke about communion, thank you, you've posted some good information and answered some of my questions. I think any I still have may just be personal things I need to discuss with God.

The problem with that is "YHVH" does not mean "the Lord". Which means you've got a mistranslation.

No, actually, they are accurate. But whatever, I'm not going to argue with you two. If you have nothing better to do than discredit someone, fine by me, but I'm not going to fuel you.

I'm sorry if that conversation bothered you, but we had a man who was speaking as one who had authority based upon being raised as a Jew and presently studying under a rabbi. Among other things he said was that his rabbi justified the smoking of marijuana, but was unable to identify what the cultural background of the rabbi was (an important consideration). Then he stated that Adonai was not a divine title. That got me curious, so I asked him about the Sch'ma (my transliteration bothered him), where Adonai is used as a substitute for Y'hoveh--most just are reluctant to say that name. He was unable to quote the Sch'ma immediately (which is the first thing a Jew would learn from the Torah) and when he did, he was unaware that Adonai was being used as a substitute. I have no tolerance for those who pose as something they aren't, so I called him on it. I would not have taken it so far if I did not think that it was important.

שמע ישראל יהוה אלהינו יהוה אחד

And with vowel marks.

שְׁמַ֖ע יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל יהוה אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ יהוה אֶחָֽד

Shema or Sh'ma (the shiva under the first shin usually is transliterated as " ' " or "E" but does make a short "E" sound)
Ysrael
YHVH (it's believed that the vav used to make a W sound so some translate it YHWH, but there are no vowel marks so we can't pronounce the name, however many scholars agree with Yehovah or Yahweh, but most orthodox Jews would say "HaShem" השם which means "The Name", or it's commonly replaced with Adonai as a substitute for God's Most Holy Name, but you spell Adonai like אדני not יהוה )
Elohyeno
YHVH
Echad or ekhad (a ח- chet, hhet, cheit (however you'd like to spell it in English), doesn't transliterate into English perfectly because we don't have the sound, I was taught it transliterates as, "Ch, kh, K, X".
