i would like to dedicate a thread to prayer and discussing prayer. The main discussions i have seen is answered prayer but I want to start out with something I have noticed in prayer. for instance long ago I asked a simple prayer that my hearts desires would match his and that My eyes would see through his. this was asked in the beginning of my faith and i only felt the need to ask once, this has always been on my heart but i didnt ask again. but gradually I began to notice this prayer being answered day by day i noticed how i lost all desire for myself and obtained desires from a heart that was not my own.

I think certain prayers are special, as if we hit the bulls eye in Gods will for us and he never forgets them. now i will be honest when i am asking for something that is not in my usual flow of prayers i seem to have no power in them as if they are hollow but when i pray according to the usual flow of my heart it feels right as if it connects with Gods heart. I can usually tell if i am asking in Gods will by the feel of the flow in my prayers and even then i still ask for things i know i cant have right now.

Does anyone know what im talking about? when i speak of the flow in prayer does that make sense? I think prayer is an art, something needing much practice to use correctly

Blain, personally I think ALL prayers are special to God.. there is no right or wrong way to pray. Whether spoken or thought, or written or typed, it's all the same to God, he still hears them. :)

I know at times that it has seemed that my prayers go no higher than my ceiling but usually it is my heart that is not in tune with God's when this is happening.

Other times I have had a thought about something and it has been answered and I am so surprised when this happens as it was not in a prayer form of a request.....God is so kind and good to us.

I think God loves it when we take time to pray and tell Him all about what is going on with us. I know I took a walk yesterday and talked to Him and as I was walking and talking I found a penny on the ground and my first thought was pennies from heaven.....I was troubled and it calmed me down.

Prayer from me just is the way I speak normally. It doesn't seem as much of an art form needing practice as it does a discipline that I need to remember to do more often. I love the verse "Pour out your heart before the Lord". No art there, just plain feelings.

Yet the real value of prayer is the listening part. I love to wait for the Lord to talk to me about a lot of things. Not so much things about the end times, etc., but more along the lines of "Lord, what do you want to do now? What is her/his needs?"

So, prayer is more of a two way communication than it is just me talking.

Prayer is not an art, it always comes naturally - nothing to "practice" there. Please stick to normal talking with God, like a child would. It really is enough - "art" and "practice" will lead you the wrong way.
I'm saying this because I've seen people do this (practice and make what they think is a high-skill prayer) and publish it on youtube. It does have the flow but it is spiritually messed up and demonic. Please stay away from it.

It does sometimes seem like when I pray I know He will answer. Sometimes it seems like before I am even done with my whole prayer I know it will be answered.

And then sometimes when I pray I don't feel like He hears at all. Even when I try to re-word my prayer into something possibly better, more according to His Will, it feels like He doesn't hear.

I know both of these situations are based on me and my frame of mind and not the Lord.

Most of the time I am not even aware that I'm praying because I talk to God so often. That may sound like I'm boasting but let me explain. At this point in my life, I am aware that my thoughts can turn to the right or to the left pretty quickly. I'm like a wave tossed all over the place without God's hand to guide me. So I'm constantly putting everything to Him and asking the Lord to show me truth vs my human perception. So to me, that is prayer. Talking to God about everything.

Then there is deliberate prayer where I know to take time to sit in the Lord's Presence (or stand or lay prostrate) to intercede on His behalf, to be a vessel for the Holy Spirit to pray through for His sake. I don't know what to pray for because I don't know the mind of God. But the Holy Spirit does so I just give myself over to Him for intercession.

And then there is praying for others. I don't know how to pray in that instance either so I just ask the Lord and then just pray as He leads me to. Who can know the mind of God or what's in the heart of others? But God knows all and I trust Him to tell me what to pray.

As I said, my perceptions and imaginations can take me all over the place. Praise God that He has given us the privilege to come boldly to His throne of grace in times of good and times of trouble that we can speak with Him and hear His Voice. I pretty much live there these days as the older I get, the more I realize how much I need Jesus my Shepherd.

This morning as I was spending time with Holy Spirit I started talking about what was on my heart and for the first time in a long time I felt like a child sitting on a Fathers lap just simply speaking, it's exceedingly uplifting and I want more of that

When one approaches God in prayer, they should do so with a loving heart.............if they do this..........He will return the favor.

for my wife and I, we love to pray to our Father together as well as by ourselves.
He taught us how to do this many years ago along with learning how to recite scriptures
that spoke to us and strengthened our needs and weaknesses.

Prayer and the other ways that He teaches us to communicate with Him as our
most intimate Friend, brings us sooooo much joy!!!

when we communicaton with our Father, it builds our relationship with Him,
just like a marriage or a best-friend-brotherly/sisterly,.....
so many times He just puts things into our minds to Spiritually-figure out,
Godly puzzles are great, and boy, are they 'revealers' of 'ourselves'!

Prayer is our life line to God. It helps us to know him better!

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." Phil. 4:6

I always liked this verse, which tells us the Holy Spirit prays through us, when words are beyond us.

"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words." Romans 8:26

I'm most grateful for that because I usually don't know what to say at the best of times even in prayer, so ill just pray in the spirit and usually words come, words to declare, ask or be to be thankful for. :)
I think I'm learning to be glad in not knowing what to say, I usually don't like that about myself but I see benefits in it, like being quiet and listening lol.

Every Sunday night my entire family (in and out of state) pauses at 7:00 Western time and prays for EACH member of our family. In my home, it is usually 4 of us that get together, but the others are joining us without actually being present.

When there is such agreement at the same time there is much power within a family. Also at that time you know others are praying for you and you are in a very receptive place to receive from the Lord whatever He wants to give you. We see answers to prayer most miraculously.

I forgot to mention what I have said to God sometimes....This is something I said to Him when I really didn't know what to ask for and that was especially when I thought about whether or not I should have another relationship or get married again. All I said to Him was.....I don't know what to pray for.

Tourist was doing the praying for that his prayer was he wanted to be happy after his wife died....I didn't know what to pray for....God matched us up.....

There have been other things too that I have said that prayer for as there are times I don't know what to pray for....I trust and take comfort in the fact that the Bible tells me that the Holy Spirit will translate for me what should be prayed and I am so very thankful for that as my heart is open and leaning toward God I truly just don't know what to ask for at times.

When we went to Vegas though and there was a meeting we had to attend that was on Sabbath and I prayed for God to get that meeting changed to Friday I had no doubt in my mind that He would get that fixed for me and sure enough the hotel called me and the meeting was changed to Friday. God knew my heart that I did not want to disobey my convictions to obey Him. On that prayer answer I was not surprised at all.

I know what you mean. I find real treasures, the more I pray, and it's getting closer to him, the closer the brighter the dark areas are shown, and burned out by the holy spirit, sometimes were just in that*strategic*position in our attitude to*receive.

There's been a lot of currents, and undertows that tempted me, and the Lord is*faithful, to have helped. Sometimes I just pray, Jesus help me. LIke Peter, being human, keeping our eyes on the Lord, instead of the storm, is the way to victory, *I know he knows and reads our heart, and as he longed to talk with Adam, he still loves us today, and wants to hear from us. Thanks for the thread, really beautiful. :)*
