2 Corinthians 12:9 - And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

  1. The love of God is greater far
    Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
    It goes beyond the highest star,
    And reaches to the lowest hell;
    The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
    God gave His Son to win;
    His erring child He reconciled,
    And pardoned from his sin.

    • Refrain:
      Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
      How measureless and strong!
      It shall forevermore endure—
      The saints’ and angels’ song.
  2. When hoary time shall pass away,
    And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
    When men who here refuse to pray,
    On rocks and hills and mountains call,
    God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
    All measureless and strong;
    Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
    The saints’ and angels’ song.
  3. Could we with ink the ocean fill,
    And were the skies of parchment made,
    Were every stalk on earth a quill,
    And every man a scribe by trade;
    To write the love of God above
    Would drain the ocean dry;
    Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
    Though stretched from sky to sky.

What is "grace"? The standard answer in Christianese is "unmerited favor." While that is technically correct, it doesn't begin to cover all that is God's grace.

Romans 12, NASB
3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

OK, so Paul speaks by the grace of God. What is "grace" in that verse? It is the grace to see and say the truth. Did that grace apply only to Paul, or does it apply to only the most studied and discerning among our leaders today? Not according to what Paul says just three verses later.

Romans 12
6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;

So gifts are given by God's grace. That goes way beyond "faith by grace." That goes into the realm of doing things for the cause of Christ, and the good news is, we don't have to be a Paul to do things for Christ.

1 Corinthians 1
12
For our proud confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and godly sincerity, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you.
Here Paul reveals it is God's grace that has allowed him to conduct himself according to holiness and godly sincerity in the world, and in Corinth. How many can see that he is saying it is by God's grace he is able to be something far and above his natural man?

We are even the stewards of God's grace, in determining and managing how we serve Him.

Ephesians 3
1
For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles -
2 if indeed you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace which was given to me for you;
3 that by revelation there was made known to me the mystery, as I wrote before in brief.

Grace abounds, and not just to faith, but to service, to conviction, to power in the Holy Spirit. Grace is, without a doubt, amazing!

1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

Ephesians 2:8,9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

1 Corinthians 2:12,13
12Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Galatians 1:1 .) Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;

Philippians 1:1 .) Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

Tts 2:11 "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,"

God's grace hath appeared to all men yet all men will not be saved (Matt 7:13) so grace is received conditionally.

Rom 5:2 "
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God."

2 Tim 2:1 "
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus."

Eph 1:7 "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;"

Titus 3:7------------ "
...being justified by his grace...."
James 2:24-------- "... by works a man is justified..."
Rom 6:17,17------"...
obey from the heart...then freed from sin (justified)"

One must conditionally have an obedient faith, be in Christ to receive redemption and forgiveness that accompanies grace. Since BOTH grace and works justify then reception of God's grace is conditional upon one's continued obedient faith.

2 Cor 6:1 "
We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain."

Heb 12:15 "Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;"

If one does not conditionally keep his obedient faith thereby remaining in Christ, he can then have received grace in vain and be fallen from grace...

Gal 5:4 "
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace."

What a negative nelly. Gods grace does not have conditions nor does Gods grace need to be completed by mans works or efforts. Grace is how God gives the greatest gift ever given to those who deserve it least.

Just rots your socks to admit that God has done it all. Receive and have eternal life. Reject and abide in eternal condemnation.

Nothing negative in speaking about ALL the truth about grace.

http://christianchat.com/bible-discussion-forum/107353-grace-only-thread.html

Above is a link to a thread about "grace only" that was started about 3 weeks ago. I searched through that thread and found no references to Gal 5:4; 2 Cor 6:1; Heb 12:15. So does the OP of this thread want a thread that thoroughly looks at grace or a thread where verses about grace are cherry-picked out and misapplied?

It's beyond any reasonable doubt that God's grace comes with conditions else all men' would be saved, Tts 2:11 and none could receive grace in vain/fall from grace, 2 Cor 6:1; Gal 5:4....neither of which are biblically true.

You always manage to create a reasonable doubt that you know Gods grace.

It is very evident that you do not know all the truth about Gods grace.

I do know what Gods grace has done for me. Perhaps you should consider what it has done for you. Instead of making up silly stuff that it cannot do.

Again, it's beyond any reasonable doubt that God's grace comes with conditions else: 1) all men would be saved, Tts 2:11

2) and no man would ever receive grace in vain/fall from grace, 2 Cor 6:1; Gal 5:4.

Both 1 and 2 would be true if grace were unconditional, but they are not.

This is nothing I made up, but facts about grace from the bible.

And can it be that I should gain an interest in the Savior's blood?
Died He for me who caused his pain? For me who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Refrain: Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

He left His Father's throne above. So free, so infinite His grace!
Emptied Himself of all but love and bled for Adam's helpless race.
'Tis mercy all immense and free, for O' my God it found out me!

Long my imprisoned lay fast bound in sin and nature's night.
Thine eye diffused a quick'ning ray. I woke, the dungeon flamed with light!
My chaibs fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed thee.

No condemnation now I dread. Jesus and all in Him is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head, and clothed in righteousness divine.
Bold i approach th' eternal throne, and claim the crown through Christ my own.

The truth about God's grace is so precious and will always be opposed. Not surprised there are usually a few on every wonderful thread such as this.

Amazing Grace.
