FYI for any who wonder about what being "sanctified" means.

Excerpt From Article:

Sanctification [N] [T] [E]
The generic meaning of sanctification is "the state of proper functioning." To sanctify someone or something is to set that person or thing apart for the use intended by its designer. A pen is "sanctified" when used to write. Eyeglasses are "sanctified" when used to improve sight. In the theological sense, things are sanctified when they are used for the purpose God intends. A human being is sanctified, therefore, when he or she lives according to God's design and purpose.

The Greek word translated "sanctification" (hagiasmos [aJgiasmov"]) means "holiness." To sanctify, therefore, means "to make holy." In one sense only God is holy ( Isa 6:3 ). God is separate, distinct, other. No human being or thing shares the holiness of God's essential nature. There is one God. Yet Scripture speaks about holy things. Moreover, God calls human beings to be holyas holy as he is holy ( Lev 11:44 ; Matt 5:48 ; 1 Peter 1:15-16 ). Another word for a holy person is "saint" (hagios [a&gio"]), meaning a sanctified one. The opposite of sanctified is "profane" ( Lev 10:10 ).

Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Well, sort of. God has a purpose for each of His children. Sanctification is His preparing us to do what He purposed us to do. Being sanctified is our doing what He purposed us to do.

Excerpt:

God calls specific people at specific times to be sanctified for a particular role in his redemptive program. God uses all people for his purposes, even those who defy him ( Rom 9:21-22 ). For example, God used Pharaoh even though he did not let Israel go ( Rom 9:17 ). God also used Cyrus, a pagan ruler, to discipline Israel ( Isa 45:1 ). The Scripture, however, is largely the story of how God wants to use willing "vessels." He set apart some to be kings, priests, and prophets. God sanctified Jeremiah even before birth for his prophetic ministry ( Jer 1:5 ). The Holy Spirit "set apart" Paul and Barnabas for missionary service from among the gathered church ( Acts 13:2 ). Every believer has a "calling" or "vocation" based on "gifting." Just as each Israelite had a role in the corporate life under the old covenant, so the church functions by the ministry of gifted and called individuals. Each one has a gift. The prominence of ministry will vary from person to person. Yet each sanctifies his or her calling through faithfulness.

in the new covenant we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 10:10) We are not sanctified outside of Christ, we enter into his sanctification by dying with him, by becoming one with him. We are sanctified because he was sanctified and his sanctification abides forever. We are not holy, but are made holy by our association with Jesus Christ.

As we are sanctified by his death, we await our glorification by his resurrection. If we are unwilling to die with him then we are not sanctified and have no hope in his resurrection. No one is greater than the Lord, if he died then we must also die, so that as he lives we shall have life.

Christ be with you always.

You are correct; but to fully understand sanctification we must look to Numbers 28and 1 Co 11:23-26
23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
KJV

Numbers 28 sets forth the sacrifice required for various occasions and situations. Each offering was to be accompanied by a (meat) meal offering (of unleavened bread) and a specified quantity of wine.

Sanctification is the act of preparing an animal or thing of the world, or a person for God's use.

The unleavened bread, and the wine were called the קְדּוּשׁ (kiddush) the purpose is to prepare an animal or thing of the world, or a believer for God's service.

During the Babylonian captivity, the only thing God's people had to offer was their worship. By rabbinic tradition, the practice of sanctifying the offering of worship at the onset of the assembly on new moons, Sabbaths, and the appointed times of Leviticus 23 with a קְדּוּשׁ (kiddush).

In 1Cor 11:23-26, as in the Gospel accounts of this act of the Lord, the Lord is explaining the true significance of the קְדּוּשׁ (kiddush). He is not instituting something new; and He knew precisely how often it was done.

In any case sanctification , as it now applies, is the work of Jesus to prepare the believer for God's service.

Heres another

1 Thes 4:3 For this is the will of God,even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

1 Thes 4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

1 Thes 4:5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

1 Thes 4:6 That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

1 Thes 4:7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

1 Cr 6:11, 18-20 speaks of the same

Holy...sanctified...set apart.
Next step...Holy Spirit...He who sanctifies us.
Finally, He receives the glory for our sanctification.

John 17:16-22[SUP]16 [/SUP]They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
[SUP]21 [/SUP]That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
[SUP]22 [/SUP]And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

2 Thes 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

2 Thes 2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Really important part of this is also to separate sanctification from eternal salvation. Sanctification is a follow on after eternal salvation but not actually gives eternal salvation.

The bible teaches we have been sanctified forever in Christ (Hebrews)...we have been saved, justified and sanctified forever in Jesus (our standing before God) after the above have been applied unto a genuine believer we then enter the phase where our daily lives and living becomes an ongoing process of sanctification as we learn, apply and submit to the word of God!

Yea it is the Holy Spirit that illuminates us and anoints us, and even causes our faces to shine by the glory of God.:)

2 Corinthians 3:18
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
