[SUP]When I was growing up my mom would read out of her bible every morning while my sister and I were eating breakfast and one of the topics we studied was the Armor of God and she made sure that we put it on before we left for school. I thank her every day for everything she taught me and one day when I am married with children I want to do the same for them.

I was actually wondering how many of you actually put it on each and every day. I was always taught that it was so important to check my heart before putting it on. How important is wearing the armor and do you pray that God will direct your every move in your day and to be protecting you? What does it mean to you?

Ephesians 6:10-20 NKJV

10 [/SUP]Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. [SUP]11 [/SUP]Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. [SUP]12 [/SUP]For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[SUP][a][/SUP] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. [SUP]13 [/SUP]Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

[SUP]14 [/SUP]Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, [SUP]15 [/SUP]and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; [SUP]16 [/SUP]above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. [SUP]17 [/SUP]And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; [SUP]18 [/SUP]praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— [SUP]19 [/SUP]and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, [SUP]20 [/SUP]for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

That is awesome. :D
Do you do like a mental checklist or do you actually go through the motions of putting it on?
I remember my mom would always play some song that was maybe named "Armor of God" or "Put on the Armor of God"

I think these days, I sleep with my armor on

When I was a kid we went through the motions of putting it on, but as I got older I have a mental checklist. I think this is something that needs to be put on every day.

I think more than "doing" something, these verses are speaking about "knowing" how your armor relates to real armor.

For instance, did you know that the larger shield the Roman soldiers used was layered with about three layers of animal hide, and that it would become useless very quickly if it was not treated with a rubdown of oil every day. Consider how that relates to us keeping the word (oil) well applied to our lives each day.

And all of that armor stuff has similar direct relation to our keeping Jesus in our lives.

What value is knowing about it if you don't do something with it? I mentally put it on each morning.

I had an experience in late December with this guy who invited me to a party that was being held at a Mennonite Church. My first thought was okay I will be safe especially with it being a first date, right? A few minutes before he showed up I made sure I had my bible, which is the sword of the spirit. My mom kept asking me why I was going to take my bible to a party and my dad told her for protection. I had no idea that I actually needed it, but in my spirit I knew. I was on the way to the church having the bible on my lap under my coat. Anyway, we finally made it to the church and was playing a board game and he was groping me and touching me in places he shouldn't. I kept grabbing his hand away because he shouldn't be doing that. I didn't want to call him on it in front of everybody, but this continued throughout the night. When we got out to his car I couldn't do anything but hold on to the bible and I kindly told him what he did was totally inappropriate and apologized for his actions, I in turn forgave him. The next day he sent me a text and gave me an ultimatum to be his girlfriend or not, I told him NO! and kept proceeding to apologize for his actions promising to take it slower, until finally I told him to lose my number. I haven't talked to him since. Afterwards, I knew my dad was right I needed to take my bible because it protected me.

I know the Armor of God works and protects those who take time to put it on. I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't had my bible with me and to be honest I don't want to even think about it. The armor of God is so important to be faithful in putting on daily.

As a last resort you could've hit him over the head with your bible. What a jerk!

In correlation to my story I was reminded of Hebrews 4:12-13 where it says

[SUP]12 [/SUP]For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. [SUP]13 [/SUP]And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

You know I find it quite interesting that the bible protects us against evil, yet it also convicts us of any wrong doing. The sword of the spirit is one of my favorite pieces of armor that I put on, I may not fully understand everything in the bible, but my spirit does and I feel that it is enough.

"strange place, the earth these days.."
you telling you had your bible with you might have helped this here with reading your testimony with holy eyes.
i still can't see the testimony part before now, like. though.
how could he go through with that...
he might have had worse plans planted in him by enemy.
i really do not know though.
imagine how hungry he must be for life...
May Christ Reign.

When I was in the military and serving in high op tempo areas, we never took our helmets, boots or body Armour off.

The same goes for Spiritual Armour. You should never take it off.

If you study Roman soldier you will also learn that the Armour never covered their back side. They were taught to never retreat only advance or stand with those spikes of those boots firmly planted in the ground. The roman soldier never removed his Armour in the war zone either.

I always noticed the double emphasis upon the completeness of the armor......the only thing missing is something for the back....we are to hold our ground and stand fast....Paul here uses the analogy of a Roman suit of armor....a Roman who broke ranks and turned to flee was cut down by his fellow soldiers.....We in the same manner are to hold our ground and make out stand in Christ to the death......!

There are some who would say that the "armor" really isn't military armor, but more likely a picture of the priestly garments.

It's an interesting study for any who are interested.

Did a Priest, carry a shield, sword and wear a helmet and a breastplate.....?

Interesting topic, I never thought of physically or mentally putting on the armour of God in the morning. I like to try and commit the beginning of the day with God and thinking about Him and/or scriptures at intervals throughout the day.

I totally agree that the armor needs to remain on. Especially when you are at your most vulnerable time of day, which for many of us is when we are sleeping. As we are sleeping the enemy will feed us thoughts and lies that come in the form of nightmares and that is why the helmet of salvation is so important because the helmet protects our thoughts. Although the armor, it needs to be a continual process every day to put it on and we need to be diligent about it. A way we can do that is by worshiping God, continually reading the bible, and talking to God to strengthen our use of the armor. How good is the armor if we don't prepare ourselves before we go to battle? We can really do harm to our spiritual bodies if we don't keep them up. We also need to polish and sharpen our armor continually.

eventually we Christians come to realize that our Spiritual Armour is
upon us at all times, and that our Father always has our backs,
whether we feel it or not....
