Does the person invite demons to enter?
Can a believer get posessesed?

Can a Christian have a demon or be demon possessed? Absolutely not! 1 John 4:4 says: You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you (Holy Spirit) is greater than he who is in the world
The BEST book on the subject by Warren Weirsbe The Strategy of Satan.

No, an acutal born again, saved believer who is a Christian can not be possessed by demons. Why would God allow that happen to someone who loves and is following Him? Living for and with Him? I was reading an interesting article and they brought up the point we are to resist the devil (James 4:7 and 1 Peter 5:8-9) NOT cast him out (because he or his demons are not in us, we shouldn't have to cast out something that isn't in us). If Christians could be possessed the Bible would give many warnings and tell us to cast out a demon.

Can people (not Christians) today be demon possessed? I'm not quite sure. But all I know is that God would never allow that to happen to someone and give them no hope or help. No evil is too big or too scary for God to conquer. If people can be possessed today the word is powerful enough to cast out a demon.

Some scriptures about demons, demon possesion :

Judas was possessed when satan entered into him right before betraying Jesus.
Matthew 17:14-18.
Luke 4:33-35.
Luke 8:27-33.

And Ephesians 6:10-18 is the Armour of God for hope, reassurance and to know that we have help from the greatest power of all, God and His word.

What about if a believer strays and messes with witchcraft or something like that and wants for some bizarre reason to rebel and go against God?
Im not sure why Im finding this interesting at the moment. Ive heard like on the 700 club ex witches and stuff and they explained how they found it honoring but scary to have a demon in them. I remember the story in the Bible where Jesus and his disciples went to that island and there was a man there possessed by multiple demons and then Jesus casted them out into pigs and they jumped off the cliff.....but Im curious to how and why those demons were in that man. I know no one knows the answer, but its things like that Im curious to know.

No a believer, which has not lost their faith, can be possessed by demons. Be careful what you hear, there are many Christians which believe a Christian can be possessed and there were several deliverance ministries, that stated this, but the Word of God Tell's us differently.

To be honest my friend (and in no way am I trying to be rude or mean) I would stay away from the 700 Club. I had a family member really into that and Idk, its best to really do your research to find who is genuine or not so genuine about the Christian faith especially on TV.

Why someone would be honored that a demon lives in them is beyond me, but then again do not believe everything you see on TV. If they were serious they need prayer and to see the truth.

If someone began to be rebellious against God we have to remember that over all He is very forgiving and merciful. He is patient and not willing to give up on us all that easy. And if the person who went out to rebel against God ever came back to repent the bible teaches that if we truly repent we will be forgiven (1 John 1:9). Doing stuff like witchcraft or anything rebellious against God in general can really change our mind, emotions and attitude in a very dangerous way. I just do not see God letting someone get possessed and then letting them be stuck in that state forever. God understands that we will all be rebellious in our own way and gives us that time to repent. For those who urgently need to repent we must pray they do.

P.S in my first post on this thread I put that Judas was possessed when satan entered into him. I was being dogmatic in that the bible never says if he was or wasn't. So I can't be for sure. But thats also another point I want to bring up. The bible never says if people can be demon possessed today or not so we can't say for sure. Either way God is powerful enough to cast out demons.

People invite them in and demons are not necessarily just limited to the possessions that are stereotypical, they include sinful patterns, curses, oppressions, fears, anxieties and what not. Also demons can enter in the life of a believer as it says in the Bible in the book of Job where Satan hurt Job, so it can happen but it all has a purpose. I have invited demons into my life but fearful OCD admissions that allow the devil to oppress me and influence my actions, sometimes affecting my future. DO not let the devil's will be done, let God's will be done.

Interesting that I see this question the same day I post about the biblical swine. The answer to your question is yes according to biblical law concerning the swine. If a person does not carefully consider the word of God as food for his or her soul, that person allows the nature of a creature that is legal for demons to enter into. This is the short answer, yes. But if you'd like to learn how that takes place, and the bible does teach it, be prepared to carefully examine the nature of a creature that does not carefully consider the word of God. The nature of swine. Your question goes a step further. Very perceptive of you to consider this; but be careful not to see emotional struggles as demon possessed.

If a believer strays, they would still have the Holy Spirit dwelling in their spirit/soul. (Sealed unto the day of redemption). So then they could not be possessed because they would be co-habitating with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God.... God the Spirit.. so if a demon could possess a saved individual they would be over powering God Himself.

Do you really think that is possible?

As for the man who had demons cast from him to the swine, I am not sure what scripture says about how he got them. He had an 'unclean' spirit, dwelt among the tombs, no one was able to bind him anymore- he had torn apart the chains. He was constantly among the tombs, gashing himself and screaming.

Maybe this man was trying to end his life because of his tormented spirit, but could not due to the possession, being prevented from ending his life.

Jesus was the only one who had complete power to convict this man and then cast out the demons.

Anyway, it's important not to focus so much on Satan and his minions and more on God's power and grace. Focusing on what overcomes evil leads to bearing fruit rather than focusing on the evil.

To understand parable language, all elements in the parable are part of the whole answer. The swine is spoken of as being unlawful to partake of; or at least that is how many interpret the law. That nature which does not consider God's word is spoken of in the Old Testament and the New Testament. But in the New Testament Jesus uses the teaching of the swine as being a nature which is also found in each of us. The teaching of the demon possessed man who fell at Jesus' feet and worshiped Him, reveals at that very moment that man became an illegal place for demons because he, without to doubt began to consider the word of God, which is Jesus Christ. If a person does not carefully consider the Word of God, that person becomes a legal place for demons to enter by virtue of the nature. To not eat pork will not save you. But if a person heeds the intent of the law to have dominion over that nature, that person is an illegal place for demons by virtue of his nature to carefully consider the word of God. The parable of the 'lost son' brings these elements together in the land of the dead; a place sin takes you. To join yourself to a citizen of that land is to give yourself into the teaching of sin; a place you, as a citizen, you fight for and become a working part of. The teaching Jesus gives is far greater than to believe it is about someone else. These parables are directly related to each and every one of us, from with; the last place we would look.

The story of the legion of evil spirits in the pigs is not a parable.

I'm sorry. I thought everything Jesus spoke was parable. Well, what do you know. Anyone can understand why the law concerning swine was given. Oops, if that is true, why was it explained that a beautiful woman who lacks discernment is like a gold ring in a swines snout? Never mind. it didn't have to be written, you already knew that. I should come to you for answers?
