It has been disturbing to read some profiles and people say they have to do certain things on top of faith in Christ to be saved. Don't get me wrong here, as Christians because of our faith we produce works and live in faithfulness. But our faithfulness has never been key to our salvation, we stumble and we fall everyday. We have mixed motives and are still in the process of being sanctified. Christ mediates for us at the right hand of the Father. Why would we need a mediator if we are perfect in the sight of God on our own. It is because God see us as perfect through Christ and Him alone and nothing I have done. It is done in Christ or it isnt. It is Christ's work and His work within us or it is our own. There is no Christ went the first half and I have to finish the other half. Does that mean we shouldn't obey the commands God has given us....NO. We are to because we love God and obedience shows our love.

Brothers and sisters, I may not have worded this in the best way and am open for correction. But the way I believe God's word teaches salvation is faith alone in Christ and from that flows obedience to Him. Thank you for reading!

If you enjoy debating vehemently, and risking possible personal attack, then you're in the right section. If you're thinking you're going to change anyones mind or bring unity, you're in the wrong section. This is well known as the most vicious and negative section on the site.

Your wording is just fine and what you say is biblical.....get ready for the workers for salvation and those who erroneously teach that you can lose salvation as they will crawl out from under the log and begin to croak their works and adherence to the law so as to keep a salvation that they say you can lose, but will never admit that they have lost it themselves as they never sin....They only mess up or make mistakes.....and they also will argue that they keep the law.....

Amen to you post!

I don't think Christ ever said defending the faith would be easy. I can either speak the Truth or say nothing at all, but which would bring honor to Christ? Don't get me wrong, I am still being sanctified and am open to correction if I make an error. I want to be sharpened and grow in Christ. Not here to make bash anyone and not show respect for them. But the Truth is the Truth and it will offend some people, it sure offended many when Christ spoke it. I will try to do it in love and humility. Thank you!

obedience = fruit of salvation, just as you say.

thought i'd get in on this early before there are 100 pages i can't (won't?) wade through.

hope to see you around the boards!

No one said you were, i was merely issuing a warning of what you can expect. And this is true regardless of whether someone has the truth or not, in here. No matter the theology or doctrine held, this is often a very unpleasant section of the forums.

Here are a few scriptures from the Apostle Paul about receiving salvation;

Romans 13:11
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Romans 2:7
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

1 Timothy 4:8
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

1 Timothy 6:12
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:19
Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

2 Timothy 2:10
Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Titus 1:2
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Titus 3:7
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

1 Thessalonians 5:8
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

If people read that, and would probably say, 'See, we are to work out our own salvation!' But this is where we have to be very careful to understand Scripture as a whole and not take bits and pieces and not look at the context as a whole. If they kept reading onto the next verse it says:

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worked in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

It is clearly God working within us and not on our own. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Once again we see over and over, we do NOTHING on our own as a Christian. It is God's work, we will boast not in our own works but His alone.

I certainly agree with your OP and your attitude of love and humiity.

Sadly, there are certain people who do twist the Scriptures, and read into it false doctrines. We have been over this topic for literally thousands of combined posts in many, many threads.

You will soon see who the false teachers are. It is sad, that they are exposed to the truth, yet remain locked in bad doctrine.

And you are so right we need to look at all of Scripture, not just in context with itself, but in terms of the grammar and the historical background.

Paul was saved on the road to Damascus. Anything else he talked about was in the context of sanctification and/or glorification.

Some people just don't see the progression.

Justification -> Sanctification -> Glorification.

I have posted many Scriptures elsewhere on this topic, and if this one gets over run with those who think you can earn your salvation by works, or lose it by sinning, I will join the fray again and post again.

I am so glad I got out of Pentecostal/Charismatic churches where salvation could be lost in a moment, and I lived in mortal fear of losing my salvation, because of my sinfulness, or not working hard enough.

I know the Holy Spirit is working more in my life, since I acknowledged the freedom Christ gives, because it is NOT about me, but as you say, Christ's finished work on the cross!

Gal 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

I am a relatively new Christian, December 2012. Not 100% on my doctrine in certain areas, but I have to rely on God to teach. If I do so on my own, it is doomed. Thank you for all the encouragement brother and sisters. May we stand strong in the faith that has been given to us and encourage and sharpen one another, not tear down but build one another up :)

AMEN and another good post.......many will pull verses out of context to try and prove works or that you can lose it as you have already seen in this thread.....they will also deny verb tenses, context, phrases in context while adding their own words and or heretical beliefs.....keep to the truth and remember always...Be not removed from the simplicity that is found in Christ.....Good post bro....!

Stay strong and keep your eyes on Jesus. Feast on the word of God daily. Beware of those who wrest the word of God for they are wolves and not sheep.

I heard a minister speak. He said roughly 85% of charismatic/Pentecostals did not know the truth of justification/sanctification process. By past experience I think that figure is probably accurate. Glad you found the truth. I felt just like you when I was in those churches
