Do we need to keep the sabbath? I dunno if I posted about this but I am still confused.

Matthew 5:19 says that if you ignore the least of these commands you get the least position in heaven. So can someone please explain this to me?

btw, what is the purpose of the Sabbath and why is it so hard to keep?

If you read Romans 14 Paul speaks of ''disputable matters'' Verse 5 covers your question.

I believe God set aside a Sabbath day under the old covenant to ensure the people set aside one day a week specifically to honour and worship him. But under the new covenant the Holy Spirit dwells in us as He did not those under the old covenant. We have been born again of the Spirit. We should not need to be told to set aside a specific day for God, we should want every day to belong to the Lord. I don't accept I should be told to worship God in any less a manner six days of the week as opposed to the other one.
God wants your heartfelt praise, worship and adoration for what he has done-and is doing in you. He wants a living, vibrant relationship with you. I do not believe the omnipotent God differentiates between days of the week where that relationship is concerned

JFSurvior,

I posted a post a couple of months ago about keeping the Sabbath. Its called, "Puzzled about the Sabbath, Let's talk to God. There you will find all the scriptures on the matter. Then take your Bible and do your own research. Many people will complain and hem and haw about this subject, but not many actually do a well search of these scriptures. While searching be in prayer and see where God guides you. It not enough to just ask people, we have to study for ourselves just as the Bereans did in the book of Acts after communing with Paul.

where should I look? I am completely lost here. I have been thinking about this for years. and then it brings us another question: what about the other commandments? Are they then void too?

In Matthew 5 we see Jesus laying out some commands like adultery and then clarifying/adding to them. But he says nothing about the sabbath. This leads me to think that all the commandments (the ten commandments which are separate from the law of moses) are still in play today. Does this make sense?

In a spiritual meaning, the Sabbath was symbolic of the "rest from works" we have now in Christ. (4th chapter of Hebrews)

In another physical meaning, God had the Sabbath set up as a time when the Israelites ceased work and worshiped Him. It was also to provide them a day to rest from work showing that their trust in the Lord's provision would suffice to meet their material need, and give them physical refreshment.

To that extent, we also need to balance our work with setting aside a time when our ministry to the Lord takes preference.
We also need to understand that our works do not bring us salvation - only the free gift of grace provided by Jesus Christ.
We also need to trust in the Lord's provision for our material needs.

I would. I don't have a specific day to do things. I keep all the things I mentioned in balance. As long as you have quality time with the Lord every day, I wouldn't worry about it.

Try to meet with other Christians if possible. It is that corporate worship and teaching that you might benefit from.

Who have to find out first what Jesus had commanded them to do.

John 5:46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.

John 14:12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

Ok I saw it and it's very well written. Thank you. It brought up another question: How should we keep the sabbath then?

The Book of Matthew introduces Christ (the Messiah) to Israel as their King and that's apparent since it starts with Jesus's geneaology and that starts with Abraham. It's the Gospel fram the viewpoint of an Old Testament Hebrew anxiously awaiting the appearence of the "anointed one," the Messiah.

It's placed first as a logical link between Malachi and the appearence of our Incarnate Lord. We are coming from thirty-nine Jewish books which are concerned with the "calling-out" of a chosen people from Abraham, to twenty-seven books that primarily deal with Gentiles called out from among the nations, "to be a people for God's name" (Acts 15:14).

It's like a bridge or transition from a Jewish economy to the Church composed of Jew and Gentile. Like I said in another post, Romans 3:31 makes it clear that the law is still in effect for somebody. The law is spiritual and good (Rom.7:12,14), but the New Testament Christian is not under it (Gal.3:22-26; Rom.6:14-17; 7:3-6).

There is a lot we can learn from Matt. but to mis-apply it doctinally is disastrous for Christians.

We know that Paul had led the Galatians to Christ (Gal.3:1), and they ahd made a good start on the Christian life (v.3) and were doing well spiritually (5:7) until the Jewish teachers (Judaizers) taught the Galatians to be saved one had to not only believe in Christ, but, had to also obey the Mosaic Law.

Paul exposes the Judaizers error when he tells them they have turned to being in bondage to beggarly elements (4:9) by observing days and months, and times, and years (v.10). I would be willing to bet that the Sabbath was one of those days.

Christians are the epistle of Christ not written in ink "but with the Spirit of the living God;" not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. 2Cor.3:3

the letter killeth but the spirit giveth life (v.6)

Have you ever thought it strange that the very commandant that God says to REMEMBER is the very one people think is forgotten and changed. You can trace this very history back to the Catholic Church..u can even ask a priest at any Catholic Church and they will tell you they changed it and not God. Ask yourself, why, why and what is the secret behind the big switch. Why is the Sabbath such a big deal?

What is the devil trying to hide from the world and how is the Sabbath connected to Christ? You got to do a historical search to find your answers also. You are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. Pray as you search...Why has this bothered you for so many years? If I am not mistaken, the Catholic church even took out from the commandments, Thou shall not worship any graven images. Ask yourself, why havent the other commandments been changed. God says, if you break one, you have broken them all. Satan loves to twist scripture. Did he not do the same to Eve in the Garden of Eden by adding one word? You shall NOT surely die and this too is another fallacy about people going to heaven when they die. Satan told Eve she shall not SURELY DIE. But God says, the wages of sin is death.

The first evidence of death in the garden was the separation from the Light and the second was the killing of a lamb for the sins of Adam and Eve. The third death was of Able and on and on to us this day. Just as God has warned us, Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy. Why would God change even one of His commandments when His law testifies of Him. Will a house divided against itself fall?

Worship the Lord. Remember His works. Read the bible. JF - we are told to not let any man judge you regarding the Sabbath (Col. 2:16) Do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a SABBATH day. There are a lot of legalistic people who will try to tell you what to do and what day to do it on.

it is a matter of knowing the intent as I mentioned earlier, and following how the Lord directs you in prayer. Usually I don't get into Sabbath threads because they become a place of contention. God looks at the motives of your heart, your wish to glorify Him in your life and your love and worship of Him, not the exact legalistic details you try to follow.

Yes God looks at the motives of the heart, but God still has a firm foundation that can not be changed. God says, There is a way that seems right to us but the end thereof are the ways of death..There is not contention here. If you call truth contention then Jesus was always in contention among unbelievers.

And by the way, no one is judging her on the Sabbath. She is asking a question.

This is why I'm leaving... I did not say anyone was judging her - I was warning her not to let anyone according to Hebrews.

it is easy to keep the sabbath when the king of kings dwells with you and you abide in him and his word, the word of yahweh, dwells inside you.

it is hard/ impossible to keep. just like it is impossible to save yourself/ in the flesh.

only by the father's grace can you keep any of the commandments willingly and joyously if he grants you life.

if he doesn't grant you life, he is not in you, and you have no part of him.

only those who live in the creator, in whom the creator is pleased and delighted by the grace of his son yahshua and faith in him, are able to honor the father in heaven. no one else is able to.

no one else wants to. as it is written in revelation, the whole world, even after 1/3 of all men everywhere die, they all refuse to turn to yahweh, they all refuse to repent of serving demons.

only the remnant in Christ Jesus is saved out of the whole world, and only they can please ABBA;

and to do so is not burdensome and it is by ABBA's accomplishment as they(WE) trust Him so to do and

willingly co-operate in all things with HIM ---- EVERY THOUGHT, not just our deeds and acts,

EVERY THOUGHT is brought subject to Yahshua Hamashiach and obedient to Him.

this is life. and few find it.

Do we need to keep the sabbath? I dunno if I posted about this but I am still confused.

The purpose of the Sabbath is to teach you to rest in the Provision of Gods Grace.

The purpose of the whole law was to lead us to Christ.

If you have already come to Christ then you should already know that He has given you rest.

Which is what sabbath means. Rest.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Christ doesn't cause us to ignore any of the commands. He causes them to be fulfilled in us.

It seems silly to me to work at a law that I know Christ has fulfilled.

It would be like you sacrificing animals to God thinking you needed to because the Law says so. You would probably feel a little silly doing it knowing that the Lord Jesus Christ has already sacrificed for you. He fulfilled it.

Not only is it silly, but its anti-christ, isn't it? You can't really sacrifice animals to God and say you do it out of love for Christ. Christ fulfilled the law.

Some Christians are still coming to the realization (revelation) of how much of the Law that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has fulfilled.

The best thing to do when you have questions, especially about the law, is to read the bible and pray. Everyone has a different opinion and different understanding of the law based on their revelation of Christ. There are lots of traditions that people feel very strongly about. Just keep in mind that God desires that we worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

You might find it interesting to do a little look-see (study) on the particular day of the week the disciples met to worship. Also check out on what day John was in the spirit when he experienced the Revelation of Jesus Christ that he wrote about in the last book of our Bible.

That way, you have the example of the disciples to go by, and not just our opinions.

if you mean go by what the false church has promoted when the false church under hasatan authorized the
supposed change to sun-god-worship day,
then you are absolutely and totally and forever wrong.
