So while at Celebrate Recovery last night we started a step called Hope. It revolved around the concept of wanting to change from our hurts, habits, and hang ups, and having God take care of it. The sermon was wonderful and at the end the pastor challenged us to think about what do we really, truly believe and know of God? I know a lot of people on here probably grew up in the church and probably can say verses off the bat of their hand. One guy in our small group is 52 and grew up in the church, but even he had to sit and think about what he truly believed about God. So what about you all? What do you all believe about God? And what do you want to change about yourself so you can bring yourself even closer to Him? Because we all canhget closer in some form or another. I'm really curious to reqd some of the responses. Thanks in advance and God bless!

Hi, thanks for asking. I would like to answer it this way though, what have I experience about knowing him. We could be superficial like things on the surface, we know he is Love, and Creator, but going through the fire, and trials, and temptations, we really see our selves who we really are, and what were made up from. I know that his Word is life, and is Truth. It does not lie, as it says, God is not a man, that he should lie. What he says goes. I found out that we need to feed upon it, to grow. We need to know, that it says, "what ever we sow, we will reap." If you look at the Ocean, how those waves, go just so, and often just so to the same mark, how's that. The greatest and Power of our God, his Majestic Strenght, to hold the planets in the Universe. The Power of Christ, to subdue evil, and the Power of the HOly Spirit, that is within us. This is beyond words, of his Love. Man does not rule the principals of life. There is order. In the Universe, and in our heart now because of what Jesus did. We can't omit Jesus in this. So his word goes out and dosn't come back empty to him, as it says. The arrogant think they could rule the world, some way, when they can not even rule their own heart, and thoughts. I found out, that through folly, or the fool says there is no God in his heart, and "the way seems right unto him, but in the End that way leads to death. I found everything and more, because of Jesus, the only way to the Father. I would not know his vast love, if it wasn't for his Son Yeshua. :)

I would have to say I know everything about God that He has revealed about Himself too me. Beyond that I don't know much.

We cannot judge our relationship with God by what others know. We can only base our relationship with God by what he has done for each one of us personally.

God is faithful and just to keep his promises......

I will NEVER leave thee nor FORSAKE thee......
HE who begun a good work in you WILL bring it to fruition....(finish it)
Jesus saves to the UTTERMOST and will LOSE NONE of those who have been given unto him by the FATHER...
HE who believes on the SON HATH ETERNAL life
Whatsoever GOD does it is ETERNAL, NOTHING added nor TAKEN AWAY from it and he does this that MEN may fear before HIM!
All things were made by HIM
God cut, formed and fashioned all of creation (create)
Jesus has died ONCE unto SIN...the JUST for the UNJUST
Jesus stands NON-STOP mediating for the saved continually..
There is only ONE mediator between GOD and MEN, the man Christ JESUS

Etc. The volumes that would have to be written would fill the world John said...concerning JESUS and what he has done....!

I think this is a question that is meant to make us think about our relationship with God.

Is Christ the Lord of our life? What does that mean?

Is the Holy Spirit leading and guiding us in all things? What might that look like?

Are we keeping clean accounts with our Heavenly Father? How does that play out in life?

God is so many things to me. He is my Saviour and Redeemer. He rescued me from sin and death. But that is about me.

God is the sovereign Lord of the universe, yet he sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins.

God is love, justice and mercy. That means we can totally trust him to hold onto us, to change us and to transform us. He is the one who imputes righteousness by no works we do.

You know, every night before I go to bed, I praise God for who he is. That means thinking about this very question. I think the answers are found in the Word, and in my relationship with Jesus Christ. I also think I could spend eternity answering this question.

Yes, God is that big!

It's not a matter of judging or comparing ourselves to others. It was meant to hear people's input. If an athiest were to approach a Christian and ask that, I don't think telling them "I know everything about God" and then say "We cannot judge our relationship with God based on what others know" is the right way to go about it.To me, I don't see how that approach brings said athiest, or even a Christian for that matter, any closer to God.

Well seeing how you never mention about speaking to an atheist about this, this is my response to your OP. So according to your OP my response to your question is correct.

If I were speaking to an atheist I would approach this question differently. As far as a "Christian" if they don't understand my answer then I would say "study God's Word more".

And besides you chop up my response to make it sound like I say "I know everything about God" period. How about you repost my WHOLE response instead :) whether you "chopped" it on purpose or by accident you should read your post before you post it.

I am not saying this to insult you I am just tired of others "chopping" my responses then making me say something I never said fully.

Yes I know everything about God that He has revealed to me. And every other true Christian can say the exact same thing. It's not about knowing God, it's about your relationship too God. Mine is not the same as yours or anyone else's. I might know more I might know less but God gives each of us what we need when we need it.

So do you want me to respond according to an atheist asking this question? Do you want me to respond to a Christian asking this question? Or do you want me to respond as I did referring to a general generic question as you posted the question?

After reading the bible you "think" you know God because you have taken in all that is written about Him. For instance, you might read that He is a healer, but it is only after you have experienced healing through prayer that you KNOW Him as healer.

In that light, every year I keep knowing Him in more and more ways. I know Him in a way that I didn't 5 years ago, and even then I knew Him more than I did 10 years ago, etc. He keeps revealing new facets of Himself that you just can't put into words if that makes any sense. It is truly Spirit to spirit.

And it only gets better!

Jodevivre I think you stated that wrong....you said "every year". I think you meant every second :)

I am just teasing as I know exactly what you mean :)

Isn't our God Awesome!!!

I know that our God is God of surprises - He always surprises me in a good way, with unexpected blessings and amazing outcomes that I'd never guess He had in plan all along while I was crawling through the "valley of the shadow of death". I guess I'll never get quite used to this. God always surpasses whatever I might expect...?

I know God a bit but not that much. I'd like to know more about who He is and not just know about Him, you know what I mean? You can read a biography about a person and know about them but not actually know them.

That is my fault, brother. I read your first post the wrong way. I apologize for that and ask for forgiveness. That's the downfall of reading posts. Sometimes you don't truly know the intent or meaning by them. I understand what you meant by it now, and I thank you for clearing that up. I also apologize for coming across the way I did to you and chopping your sentences in my second post, and I ask for forgiveness. As far as my original post, I think it's fine giving a generic answer. I'm not really looking for personal examples or stories (although they're more than welcome if someone wants to post a personal example or testimony about what God did through them). Like I mentioned before, I just wanted mainly to apply last night's message on here, and hopefully see what others have to say when the first thing they think about God comes to mind. Thanks again for your post, brother, and God bless you!

"Knowing God", scripturally speaking, is likened to a marriage covenant in which a wife (the Christian) "knows" her husband (Christ) intimately. IOW, it's not supposed to just be about some sort of head knowledge, but more experiential and, of course, our experiences need to line up with scripture. Anyhow, just yesterday, as I was driving to work, I was seriously meditating on one thing that I "know" about God:

"After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name." (Matthew 6:9)

Not only is God's name "Hallowed" or "Holy", but God Himself is Holy and the seraphims are ever present before His throne and crying "Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of His glory" (Isaiah 6:3). How do I "know" this, experiencially? Well, having been in God's Presence myself and having ofttimes been convicted of the HOLY Spirit, I "know", full well, that God is indeed Holy. Even righteous men like Daniel and John fell on their faces as dead men before Him. Would to God that the professing saints of today would do the same.

Sorry Joidevivre but no matter how hard you try your fanaticism about God shows :)

Yeah yeah I know I am a "brat" lol
