19 .) Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 .) But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 .) For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 .) The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 .) But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 .) No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 .) Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

I will confess that most of the time when I mention those so easily understandable scriptures...replies are few...which I have come to believe is related to many being unwilling to truthfully trust God with all...including such as drink, food, rainment, and being willing to allow God to change their pattern of living...which would also help them change their pattern of thinking. Nobody can deny that the first thing Jesus did after public baptism was go out into solitude with God alone...in the woods where many dangers are present for those not under the protection of God. So many public baptisms I have been to...and not once has solitude been advised in my ears. Perhaps those baptising publically have no recolection of that part of His example? Even the disciples assembled in one accord in one place...separate...but...maybe this overlook of Jesus words and example is for othrr reasons?

I wonder if it is appropriate to ask for testimonies of at least one time in a life where they have taken no thought for those things? I would be very impressed to hear a testimony of someone who went out into solitude at this point. Not judging...but I think many like to have control over such matters...which is most often a choice that limits and even stops real spiritual growth.

I love matt 6, to me it tells us not to place our trust in money in the Lord.

Naturally brings to mind ~ the love of money root of evil

That's because some of us don't like tooting our own horns and puffing ourselves up in front of others.

I Think the intent of MT 6:19-25 is that:

after we realize that we can't rely on our own efforts to meet our Spiritual needs; we must realize that we need not and should not rely on our own efforts for our material needs either. As we learn to trust and rely on God for our material needs He will meet them better than we can. This is not meant to suggest that we should not work to support our selves and our families.

This is meant to suggest that it is wise to consult with God in prayer before accepting a job.

I figured that would happen from someone. Did I say something that Jesus wouldn't say? To God be the Glory...so dont you think its tooting Gods horn?

Hmmm...I did not realize you had a separate family than me.

Luke 8:20-22Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

20*And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. 21*And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
