I'm brand new here and I don't know the ropes so I'll just let it rip. I've just started reading the bible and I need help, I'm having an absolute horrible night and I'd appreciate any wisdom or help that you could give me. I've been trying for an hour to talk with anyone online about the bible but it seems impossible for some reason. Please if anyone reads this any response would be welcome. Having a terrible night would really appreciate any encouragement. Any good chapters or verses would be appreciated!!

One day I decided to see what this is all about for myself, and started reading the bible. When I first started reading the bible someone told me to start with the new testament, so I did. I read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and I thought the whole bible said the same thing over and over again lol. I was like, where is the story of David and Goliath, or Paul on the road to Damascus? I was completely clueless. But I read all of the new testament, then went to the old testament. And things started popping out at me. I saw how the things in the old testament were a physical example of the spiritual things in the new testament. Then I read questions people ask online, and I'm like yeh what about that? So I studied topics after that. Now I am quite knowledgeable, but no one will ever know everything. But if you have questions I will see if I can help, if you want to pm me. My advice is just read it straight through like a book. I think 5 chapters a day will get you through it in one year. Happy studying.

I started reading a couple weeks ago. A chapter or 2 a night. I've completed john and am on Matthew. I loved Matthew. I think it was chapter 18 or 19. I was really freaked out a few mins ago so my question might not have been clear. I just needed to know someone was out there I guess. Thank you guys so much!!

It wasn't Matthew freaking me out it was more of life in general. I've just started taking reading the bible seriously and I'm totally freaked out by god, and everything that comes with it. I'm seriously freaked out by all of my past sins and sometimes it just hits me of how far I've fallen. But on a more positive note Matthew 18:20-35 is one of my favorites so far. I'm sorry for being all over the place my minds just rushing

Some solid Gospel is important when you are new...

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
(Eph 2:4-10)

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
(1Co 15:1-4)

Happy Easter

The Book of Mark is the best place to state IMO. It's very easy to understand, short, and written by a gentile.

Take a deep breath, relax everything will work it's self out. Worrying isn't going to help you. Take a hot shower or bath, put on something comfortable and listen to some soft music. Then say a prayer and try and get some rest.

I would advise that you start with the Gospel of John, then read Romans, Philippians, Colossians, and Ephesians.

The Bible should be understood literally unless there is compelling reason not to.

The Bible should be understood in context; NOT isolated verses.

You should always pray for the Holy Spirit's guidance both before and during your readings.

Keep reading the Bible and be of good cheer sir ctc.

My own recommendation would be to read it cover to cover at some point, maybe after you have eased into it. Though as you be just starting out on it, I can see why it makes sense to read certain books first. Gospel of John is a great place to start! Matthew is very good too especially to read after John. I would suggest to then read Mark and Luke afterwards.

If you're worried about past sins, read Romans and/or Ephesians.

I'll definitely take a good look at all your suggestions. Should I read individual chapters until I eventually read the entire bible or is it better to read it front to back? Does anyone know the chronology of the books, from earliest to latest? So I can make more sense of it instead of jumping from one time period to another. Thanks so much everyone! I really appriciate every single comment!!

The book of John is where I started. Also, don't be crippled by your sin. That's what Satan wants. The fact that you are looking to the bible is encouraging. God wants you to have a better understanding of Him. We all start somewhere in terms of faith.

Listening to audio and reading along as well can be helpful. It has made my reading easier.

The chronology of the books can be googled easily. Reading is not enough since as the Bible itself teaches us that we must have hearing ears and seeing eyes, which would imply that there is a lot of understanding in each word of God in all of the books. I love the Gospel of John as it not only touches your heart deeply but makes you think very profoundly about your life and why you are here.

I'd appreciate any wisdom or help.
Some i heard say, start with a prayer through the Christ to the true God, but you would have to use your own time and energy and judgement to find the true God.
