The next logical question I have to ask is what now?? In the last few weeks I've started reading the bible, praying, online bible study, trying to change my life in a more positive way... Now what do I do?? Im interested in what are the next steps for me as I continue on this journey. I know I've got to continue doing these small steps and not overwhelm myself by taking massive leaps before I'm ready, but in your opinion what else is there that I should be looking forward to?
Do I start checking my area for local activities with other Christians, maybe do some research into local churches?
I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff I haven't considered that you guys could point out to me.

P.s.
This forum has been extremely helpful for me so I thank everyone who has welcomed me and been so encouraging.

The first thing Jesus did after public baptism was go out to solitude and be alone with God in the woods for a while...then He was "tempted of the devil".

Maybe make it a goal to spend at least some time alone with God in the woods to start. When you are reaady to trust Him alone in the woods...that is a good baby step to take.

Are you of the opinion, CTC, that now being a Christian, there is a goal to reach or a level to achieve to get something or become something?

Not trying to be a smarta__, but this has nothing to do with Christianity. You have simply begun getting to know Jesus more intimately, and you have a lifetime to spend doing that.

trying to change my life in a more positive way. First, you need to understand that there is NOTHING you can do to change your life in a positive. Jesus can and will do that for you if You will acknowledge that you CAN NOT PLEASE GOD THROUGH YOUR OWN EFFORTS; and accept the forgiveness He offers and his claims of Lordship (ownership) on your life.

the best advice I can give you is to choose a church that puts the authority of Scripture above all other authority.

Walk in truth, pray, continue to read the scriptures, and be patient in suffering and doing good to all men as God is building up your faith and will complete His work in you. Also now that you believe get baptized.

1 Peter 3:8-17
8Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. 9Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. 10For
“Whoever desires to love life
and see good days,
let him keep his tongue from evil
and his lips from speaking deceit;
11let him turn away from evil and do good;
let him seek peace and pursue it.
12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are open to their prayer.
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
13Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? 14But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 15but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 16having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.

There's a verse a friend of mine is always quoting to me.

Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

Matthew 17:20-22King James Version (KJV)

20*And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

21*Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

A habit of prayer and fasting is always good...but baby steps are good in regards to length. The first commandment/greatest commandment starts with...Hear, O Israel....so you are doing good by the grace of God if you dilligently keep hearing His word. Reading the bible is obviously a good way to hear what the nature of love is...and how to practice it by the grace through faith given.

Don't take your failures and setbacks to seriously. They are for the purpose of always reminding you that your salvation is fully in and of Christ. And that you should never think this is a self-improvement program. Rather, it is a gaining Christ program. Your "journey" will be full of obstacles and valleys. But to get to the mountaintop there are always be obstacles to overcome. Carry on.

The next step is to learn how to apply the principles you learn from scripture to your life. Becoming a Christian is not just about learning scripture it is about a change of life. You must begin to allow scripture to act as a set of behavioral constraints. Becoming a Christian means one must learn to think, speak, and behave differently. Our conduct must conform to the standard of behavior we see revealed in scripture. This is a growing process so you must learn to be patient with yourself.

Remember this is not a checklist, this is a relationship.
Treat it as such.
Having this "promotion" kind of mind about it is not going to end well, trust me. Simply fall in love with Jesus and everything else will follow after. What should you look forward to? You should look forward to your wedding day, when you see your love (Jesus) face to face.

There are many things I practice which I have learned from God's word and instruction which I find incredibly beneficial in my relationship with God.

Isaiah 26:3
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Psalm 32:10Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him.

There are many verses that tell us to trust in God but what verses tell us how to practice trusting God?
This is how I practice trusting God:

Ephesians 5:20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Most people thank God only for the blessings they receive and only when they receive what they want. This does not require trust. Thanking God for all things, particularly evil things and things we don't want, feelings we don't like, thanking God for others sins against us, and for others sins against one another...This requires ultimate trust in God. The promise God has made to us " Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." tells us that we can absolutely thank God for all things because God will use all things for our good. This is how I practice trusting God.

I can offer literally thousands of times when I have thanked God for things that were horrid. Like when my daughter was raped I thanked God. God enabled me to forgive her rapist immediately...which allowed me to give my child what she needed, compassion and comfort. If I hadn't thanked God I wouldn't have had the ability to offer compassion and comfort because I would have been overwhelmed by my anger and hatred over what was done to her and spite and bitterness and un forgiveness against the person who harmed her. Practicing trust in God by thanking him for all things in all circumstances enables us access to his power and love in all circumstances which makes our reactions to every situation look very different than the reactions of those who do not practice trusting God. I am witness to God's perfect and pure love and power repeatedly as I practice his word in this way. I can testify that He keeps His promises and I live in His perfect peace as long as I practice trust by thanking him this way.

I practice humility. Like love humility isn't an attitude or emotion but something we must do in order to have it. The more love we give away the more we have. The more humility we give away the more we have. We must practice humility before God and also before others. Here are scriptures which express that we should practice humility:

James 4:10
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. Psalm 25:9
He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
Proverbs 11:2When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

There are many more verses which tell us to humble ourselves but how do we Practice humility?
Forgiving others their sins is a practice in humility.
Confessing our sins before God and others is another way of practicing humility.
acting as though we are the worst of sinners, which again means complete forgiveness of others(even before they repent)
and also never being demeaning to others over their sins. Again there are many verses that tell us to practice all of these things.

Eventually we come to discover that both of these and many things are all actually practicing LOVE for God and Love for others. AS it is written, "love always trusts" so I practice trust. Love does not boast, it is not proud and it is not self seeking, all of which means practicing humility is also practicing love. Humility as I said is also about forgiveness, which is also practicing love as "love does not consider a wrong suffered."

James 1:22
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

I practice praising God in all things. I practice glorifying God in all things. I meditate upon God's word day and night. I listen to scripture as I sleep, when I wake and before I go to bed. Ya I practice many things God has taught me to practice through HIs word and empowered me to practice because He is my source of power to do good. I am sure you get the idea. I hope these things may help you become closer to God and help you mature in Christ. All glory and honor and power and praise always be to our God and father from whom all good things come.

Its about looking at self. More specifically your mind. Discover what is true and stop lieing about things of the past. Forgive all who have hurt you. Deny worry and doubt, but first and foremost have faith in yourself.

Know when to hold your tongue and forgive those who insult you. Consider what everyone has to say. Evaluate yourself and meditate on scripture, but don't over do it. Make sure you read it in a positive light. Negative attitude will twist the scriptures. Most importantly, pray. Accept unanswered prayers and obstacles as tests of faith. Do not be afraid that Jesus will leave you or you have failed him. He has unlimited forgiveness to give through his blood. Never forget your place in heaven is secure and can not be taken away.

I have went through various periods of reading the bible, praying, etc. It is not something you really can ever do enough of. I have learned to study the bible sometimes and get caught up in the scriptures and let the Spirit of God show things I can learn and take into myself. Remember Jesus wants a relationship with us. It is not just about doing various things. Jesus wants us to fellowship with Him . You can do all of these things I mentioned and you mentioned and not have a relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior. That is how I approach this.
