if you were not baptized by the spirit. your not saved.

Gifts come from the anointing of the spirit. not the baptism. just thought you might like to know. Not judging you.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs when one becomes born again and is Justified.
Adding to what Eternally-gratefull said, Spiritual gifts are given by Holy Spirit according to His will and His purposes.

He said unto them, ‘Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?’ And they said unto him, ‘We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.’ And he said unto them, ‘Unto what then were ye baptized?’ And they said, ‘Unto John’s baptism.’ Then said Paul, ‘John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.’ When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. Acts 19:2-6.....so do I call this the baptism of the Holy Ghost?

yes and it happens on their coming to Christ and putting their trust in Him. Previously they had believed in a 'coming Messiah' promised by John, now they knew that He had come and that He had died and risen again, and could come into their lives, giving them the Holy Spirit. They were given the Spirit with outward signs as at Pentecost so that it might be demonstrated to the tens of thousands of believers in John's teachings around the world that they must take that one step further.

This was the fulfilment of John's message that Jesus would baptise in the Holy Spirit. It was the commencement of the new world wide witness. Prior to Pentecost the work of the Spirit had been limited to Palestine. Now a new era was beginning. It was a unique event, the 'giving of the Spirit' of John 7.39. No one had been 'baptised in the Holy Spirit' before this. From this point on everyone who truly believed would be baptised in the Holy Spirit, 'baptised in one Spirit into the body of Christ' (1 Cor 12.13) .

1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Marvel not.....you must be born again!

there may be multitudes who 'truly believe' but receive no forgiveness, no truth, nor spirit nor life --- the examples in scripture OT and NT prove this.

During the Middle Ages, Christian translators created a way to make the English Bible reflect their belief that the Holy Ghost was not the Holy Spirit. These theologians coined the phrase "Holy Ghost" to designate the Third Person of the Trinity. In contrast, they used "Holy Spirit" to refer to the Spirit of God or Spirit of the LORD encountered by the Hebrews and Jews in the Old Testament.
Then, in the 16th century, Bible printers reinforced this distinction by introducing capital and small letters. In the OT they used "spirit" and "holy spirit." In the NT they printed "Spirit" and "Holy Ghost," but with subtle distinctions.
These translation and printing differences do not exist in the Bible itself, in either Hebrew or Greek.
They are invented theological biases imported into the (English) Bible."

Yes I have.. but dont use it elevate myself 'above' all others like some Pentecostal sects or divisions of 'christ'.. btw Christ is NOT DIVIDED... I got caught up in that 'spiritual pride' spirit of a few denominations and the Master Pulled me away from that.. its used as Edification.. does one need the Baptism in the Holy Ghost to be saved? and taken to Heaven . no the Word is specific on that ... Jesus the Christ, God manifest in the flesh, Baptizes in the Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues.. yep.. lots of conterifets out here today. .mimicry.. I've seen it.. I've witnessed it.. the devil is purdy crafty.. oh he is... his short time of praise and adoration on this planet as the 'false christ' the'other christ'. is fast approaching and he knows how to work the mimicry!

John 20 the resurrected Jesus breathed on them and said receive ye the Holy Spirit. Long before Pentecost Jesus gave the Holy Spirit to those gathered in the upper room.

Peter at Pentecost was filled with the Holy Spirit for power not baptized in the Holy Spirit as some wrongly teach. The Greek makes it clear. If we fail to teach the bible accurately we teach error.

besides 'ghost' being very inappropriate and inaccurate, that had nothing to do with my post.

see previous posts to see why I posted.

and what's a 'cessationist' (someone against the civil or vietnam war? or who wants texas to succeed from the union? :) ) and why bring it up at all ?

When you argue against scripture you are arguing against God not men.

So let me get this straight Jesus breathed on the disciples to receive the Holy Ghost in John 20 and then in the upper room it happened all over again?!?!?!.............hmmmm I do not think so.

They received WITHIN in John 20, they were filled UPON in Acts 1.8 and Acts 2

within and upon mean entirely 2 different things and if you study this out you will see, that there is dual working of the Holy Spirit upon believers.

He works within in the believer to develop fruit and character.

He works upon the believer to give power for service and witness.
