Is there anyone who fights with themselves just to do the right thing? Or you beat yourself up when you did something you regretted later, swearing that you'll never do it again, only to do the same thing repeatedly?
I have read more than one post or thread concerning people who were unable to stop doing things they knew were wrong.
Drinking, smoking, nail biting, watching porn, over eating, specific fears or phobias, and the like?
I had several things I was unable to stop myself, knowing that I was doing wrong, but doing it anyway. Only, I would see something bad happen to my family or myself within 3 days of committing some sins, without fail. This I also knew to be God's judgment for the sin.
Even though it bothered me, I was not strong enough to stop on my own with my own strength. This went on for years until God told me something that changed all that. And it was something so small and simple.
It's funny how you can read something over and over again and never see some things in the bible that were right there in front of you the whole time.
I knew that it was the truth that makes us free, but that wasn't enough to actually make me free.
Knowing is not enough to do anything, and yet, without knowing, then next thing won't work either.
Believe it or not, simply speaking the word of God, in particular, the promises of God that pertain to the area of weakness was the answer.
What most don't know is that the old nature/man of sin has an evil spirit within it, which happens to be within the mind.
After the new birth, you receive a new/fresh spirit from God with God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost in it, making it like the spirits within it, or righteous. This too is within the mind, hence, the battle, struggle, and conflict within, along with the battle with the flesh.
I use to struggle and fight, only to fall, every time. This went on for years, until God told me what to do.
When Paul said, "when I am weak, then am I strong", he was talking about the end of the struggling and the beginning of resting. We are weak, but He is strong. How do we get God's strength to be ours?
It is done simply by speaking His word with your mouth our loud or verbally. Like I said, it was so small and simple, yet I missed it for years.
My thoughts, feelings, desires, urges, intention, and the like all changed and went away, simply by speaking the word of God out loud against the weakness saying, 'it is written', and it works, every time. But you must know His word is truth and that God will perform His spoken word.
I know this is very brief, and if there are any who would like a more detailed explanation, you have only to ask.
I know there are others out there who are having similar problems that I had, as I just read one, and instead of saying, 'I'll pray for you', with no results, with the right and correct info, one can get delivered themselves. God is no respecter of persons, if He does it for me every time, He will do the same for you.

I neglected to say that, after speaking God's word, I no longer struggled and fought myself to walk uprightly before God. It was and is today, as though I never had a problem to start with. All evil and sinful desires, thoughts, feelings and the like,... gone.
That is why Paul said, 'when I am weak, then am I strong' and why God said, 'My strength is made perfect in weakness'.

Perhaps quoting the verses that you use or that can be used for these problems;

Drinking, smoking, nail biting, watching porn, over eating, specific fears or phobias, and the like?
Perhaps scratch off nail biting... and put in worry...

Hallelujah! Amen, Brother. Glory to God! \:D/ What life-giving words!! The grace and power and miraculous love of Jesus Christ, the power to save us.

Hebrew 7:25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. Thank You, Jesus!!

Just reading those beautiful words fills me with such unspeakable joy and peace that floods my soul that surpasses all of my understanding!!

Deliverance! Isaiah 52:6, 7
"Therefore My people shall know My name; therefore in that day I am the one who is speaking, 'Here I am.'" How lovely on the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who announces peace, and brings good news of happiness, Who announces salvation, And says to Zion, "Your God reigns!"

OUR GOD REIGNS! He can make the wind and the sea obey Him, and His love makes us obey Him, too! And what great love He has for you and me! ♥ ♥ ♥

What you speak of is simply "putting off" and "putting on".
For instance:

I put off confusion - " I have the wisdom of Christ - I will make the right choices."
I put off a sense of my weakness - "His strength is in me."
I put off a desire to sin - "His self-discipline is in my spirit."
I put off worry - "Mercy and goodness is following me every day of my life."
I put off a need to gratify self - "I am the temple of the Lord. I live for him."
I put off my helplessness - "Through Him I can do all things."
I put off doubt - "I choose to have faith".
I put off my rights - "I have died and my life is hidden in Christ."

Sorry for not putting the actual scriptures for all of these things.
These things have worked for me.

I have taken things off of my children and put His words upon them. I call it "robing or clothing" them.
Such as the woman in Proverbs clothed her household in scarlet. And so I clothe my family in God's word.

Growing in sanctification is a human dilemma, that won't end until putting on that incorruptible body. Read Romans 7 and 8, and take heart you're in very good company, the apostle Paul, and that the news is all good, in the final analysis.

This is the renewing of the mind in a nutshell

Some state we are powerless against, temptation, Sin and the enemy, but in Matt 4 and Luke 4 Jesus himself showed us how to deliver ourselves from all these things and that is by speaking to the giants and the mountains with he word of God.
This truth is not taught or preached much any more and it should be.

The sword of the Spirit is how Jesus carved up the Devil in Matt and Luke 4. Many think Jesus defeated the enemy in the wilderness with his God powers, no sir, he defeated the devil with "For it is written"!!!!

When you state a Thus saith he Lord, you are taking the sword off your belt and slicing and stabbing the powers of darkness.

Christians who state the devil made them do it have no idea the power of the word they have.

Joshua and Caleb did not talk about the giants, and the other obstacles, they spoke to those obstacles

David did not talk about the giant, he spoke to the Giant!!! and the giant fell

Jesus did not talk about the fig tree, he spoke to the fig tree!!!and the fig tree dried up.

Jesus did not teach us to talk about the mountain, he stated to SPEAK to the mountain and the mountain will move.

This power is lost on a many Christians, because positive confession has been so badly marred and distorted by the Word of Faith Movement, nobody preaches abut it any more.

Johsua 1.7-9 says:
[SUP]7 [/SUP]Only be strong and very courageous; [SUP][b][/SUP]be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may [SUP][c][/SUP]have success wherever you go. [SUP]8 [/SUP]This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may [SUP][d][/SUP]be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will [SUP][e][/SUP]have success.[SUP]9 [/SUP]Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

We are not udner the Law by any means, the word of God should be in your mouth continually!

I have taken things off of my children and put His words upon them. I call it "robing or clothing" them.
Such as the woman in Proverbs clothed her household in scarlet. And so I clothe my family in God's word.
Mine was a bit of a combination of the word of God and the authority of the believer.
You see, I am more than convinced that the inner battle we have is nothing more than evil spirits in our old man and in our flesh/members/body of death. These spirits cause us to have impure thoughts, motives, intensions, desires, and the like.
If we take care of these things, then they cannot work on any of the things listed above, within us.
So, I not only speak God's word concerning the area of weakness, but I also come against the spirit or spirits behind the impure thoughts or desires, preventing them from operating in me.
God said He sent His word and healed them. We are to be like Him by doing the same, so I send His word to work for me like a commander sending soldiers to do battle for him, only it's for me. And as Jesus commanded with authority and His word was with power, I do likewise, and get the same results.
Jesus said, "...rejoice not that the spirits are subject unto you...", and as He gave the disciples power and authority over unclean spirits, He has given the same to us. It was not given for the apostles, but to His children.
So I do both, and it has worked for me ever since then.

It is written that the power of God IS the word of God, and that the worlds were made and framed by the word of God, and that we are healed by the word of God and saved by the same, and the list goes on and on. Everything is done by the SPOKEN word of God. That was one of the keys I didn't use. How can you sent God's word that isn't spoken verbally?
The other thing was to be consistent. That I wasn't at all, and that's what I learned from my wife. And God did exactly what He promised He would do.
What I was trying to get at is that we don't have to walk around just existing saying, 'Oh wretched man/woman that I am, who will deliver me from the body of this death?'
But instead say, 'Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Now we are able to walk in the power of the Spirit and be free, for it is written, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens, enable, and empowers me.
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

My heart goes out to those who are helpless and hurting because they know they are sinning yet are unable to stop, and they not only have to deal with their own hearts condemning them, which is their conscience, but many have been condemned by the church as well.
There is a well know TV preacher who makes anyone that has a bad habit, such as smoking, say the sinners prayer, because of what is written in I John. What do you think that did for me and what about all the others, especially when I went back to doing the same thing because I wasn't able to stop under my own will power. I didn't just have one problem, I had many because I had no self control.
I know some of what they feel and are going through. Some get so distraught that they commit suicide. I was there years ago. I was contemplating that for a while because I was having such a hard time. Not with life, but with me and what I read in the bible. I didn't want to go to hell, yet at the same time, I didn't know what to do either. It was hard being in that state.
So what I write, I do so for others, in hopes that it might help them to get out of the defeated lifestyle and into liberty. It is so much better living with the strength of God, and having a joy and peace within yourself.
Thanks for the encouragement ma'am.

When I have tried to stop anything by myself I always fail, but when I allow Jesus to help me I succeed.....The strenght of Jesus is made complete in our weaknesses.....does not mean we wont fail every now and then and succomb to the flesh, but we have for more victories when Christ is involved for sure......!

When I allowed Jesus to help me, nothing happened, except I would succumb to the sin. I mean, when I didn't say anything, I was still on my own, under my own strengths TRYING to resist. So, most times I would win, and sometimes fail. It wasn't until I actually started speaking God's word out loud and binding the spirits, that when a thought or desire would start pressuring me to sin, it would just go away along with the struggling. I didn't have to resist because it just would go away. Just like that.
After I saw what happened after the first victory, I though, 'hey, this is great, and it's easy at the same time'. I haven't stopped since then, and I am no long the wretched man that I was.
