Protestants are always disagreeing against the Catholic doctrine, but do Christians know that two Churches have a common foundation! Both churches agreed abound since the foundation of the Christian faith. One Central Article of Faith:

Credo in unum Deum.....
Et in unum Dominum Jesum Christum......
Qui propeter nos homines,
Descendit de coelis,
Et incarnatus est....:
Et homo factus est.
Crucifixus etiam pro nobis:
Sub Pontio Pilato passus,
Et sepultus est.

This is written in many forms so I will give you resources to study. I know few folks will complain that I am copying ,pasting and posting! Lool! It is important for folks to know theology, religion and biblical history to understand their faith and be knowledgeable of the foundation ones faith.

The Symbolum Nicaenum, or Nicene Creed, has a complex history. It was first promulgated at the Council of Nicea (325), though in an abbreviated form from what we have below. St. Athanasius attributes its composition to the Papal Legate to the Council, Hossius of Cordova. The Creed is also sometimes called the Nicene-Constantinoplian Creed since it appears in the Acts of the Council of Constantinople (381), but it is clear that this Council is not the source of that composition for it appears in complete form in the Ancoratus of Epiphanius of Salamis some seven years earlier in 374. In any case, it was this text that appears in the Acts of the Council of Constantinople that was formally promulgated at Chalcedon in 451 and has come down to us as our present Nicene Creed. It was at the councils of Nicea and Constantinople that the true nature of Jesus was defended against two heresies that had sprung up. The Arians denied Christ's divinity and the Monophysites denied Christ's humanity. The councils, drawing upon the traditions handed down to them from the Apostles, condemned both heresies and declared that Jesus was indeed both true God and true man. In the 11th century this creed became part of the Mass. A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful who recite the Symbolum Nicaenum.[/TD]

In a way, AQ, I wish I had never begun to study any Theology. I find it so hard, anymore, to even have a casual discussion with many of my friends who still are blissfully happy with what they were taught (mistaught?) in Sunday School.

Unless you are none of the above.....for I am neither Catholic or Protestant.......Jesus started his church during his earthly ministry, the church is spoken of in the present tense no less than two times during his eartly ministry and he promised the perpetuity of his church.....woven thru history there has always been at least one true New Testament church on this planet and all of the "churches" so called that came later have hardly anything in common with the work that Jesus started.........No offence meant......!

Is Latin, again, in fashion?

:p

As I see that creed, it "reinforces" what the Bible itself says.

The only thing I think I would miss from them: Those good books they have, like Machabeus, Tobias, Wisdom and several others. :)

I am neither Catholic nor Protestant.

All Protestant denominations "came out of" Catholicism. They protested Catholicism, and "broke away" from it. That is why they are called Protestants. When they left Catholicism, they took part of Catholicism with them. That is why the commonality exists...

:)

i fail to see how having a statement of beliefs concerning the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit really makes them the same. ON the other hand not a single protestant church I have gone to my entire even uses the Nicene Creed.

But I'm sure you would rather have use blabbering gibberish and calling it tongues, or faking seizures and claiming we were 'slain by the spirit' or some other charismatic mumbo-jumbo.

I never was Catholic!

I spent 6 years in a Catholic primary school and they never got me as a real one. I always disliked being forced to attend their meetings, but I can admit I liked how their bread tasted.

Try the Lutheran Church, they are 'Protestant', and use the Creeds.

All these different 'sects' , divsisions, denominations, groups that claim to be 'christian' but all have their 'own way' or own 'works of salvation' they PROCLAIM to be the Way to Heaven, these doctrines , methods they teach and promulate amongst their' converts... even the BIGGEST AND LARGEST SUPPOSED Pentecostal denominations on this planet, have a PURPOSE. The purpose is to fulfill that Babylonian Harlot, the Word Calls the Harlot of Revelation 17, the Great Whore, which will be given the open Door to attempt to create Heaven on Earth at the Start of Daniels 70th week as the man of sin is Revealed and he brings great supernatural false peace to the Middle east, this Israel and her flamboyant enemies. You watch these groups over the next 5-10 years and watch how they CONTINUE to fall away, Sacrificing Truth for 'unity, peace, and a false love', this done thru the spirit of lawlessness and the Mystery of Iniquity...... while adopting 'strange doctrines and heresies' and using them to justify their error and create a 'man made image' of 'christ'... no other time has this been available to 'spread this deceit' other than NOW, THE AGE of electronics, cell phone, internet , TV, Radio. things travel so FAST .. as Daniel prophesied would happen in the time of the End. The false chruches, the many sects or divisions of christ, denominational systems including 'huge Pentecostal' denominations ALL SERVE A PURPOSE, they will fulfill the Wod of God as becoming the jello mold , that Great Whore, of Revelation 17. he/she that has ears let him/her hear.... fueled and molded by the Mystery of Iniquity as the 'sandy foundation' is laid daily and yearly until its complete and Daniels 70th week begins. God will eventually Judge This Whore, allowing the man of sin to devour her, and any left over remains of it will be destroyed prior to Christ's 2n Coming via a huge global earthquake, that takes any remnant of it left in 1 HOUR... One , if simply Led of the Spirit, sees Paul's teaching on 'is Christ Really Divided?' what does He Say.. NO.. now you understand and realize why so many division and sects and denominations claiming to follow Christ, but each having a different form of 'salvation' according to how they carnally discern the Word of God. These 'members' of these systems, are really the source of the Persecution those , His Elect, who are alive today on this earth, experience. As Paul says, he that was born of the flesh(carnal systems) , persecuted he.she that is Born of the Spirit, Even so it is now.. Spirit Begets Spirit, Genuine Salvation...

Try the Lutheran Church, they are 'Protestant', and use the Creeds.
They are also trying to return to the RCC. Lutherans are just RCC-lite.

why do you split the church into 'Protestant and Catholic'? The Roman Catholic church is only one of many 'Catholic' churches, even in the modern sense. There are many Orthodox churches. There are many Biblical churches. I am a member of a Biblical church, not Protestant or Roman Catholic, but Apostolic CATHOLIC (member of the universal church made up of all true believers).

, but do Christians know that two Churches have a common foundation!
I think most realise that there is a basic creed which we can all accept, but it is not a Roman Catholic creed. It was the creed of the early church before the Roman Catholic church as it is today existed. Since then they have added doctrines which have invalidated their right to be seen as orthodox.

Both churches agreed abound since the foundation of the Christian faith.
with apologies but I do not understand what you mean by this. However the creeds we have were over three hundred years AFTER the foundation of the Christian faith. We have their creed. It is called the New Testament.

whilst I sympathise with what I think you are trying to do the truth is that no one knows the form of the creed established at Nicea. The creeds you describe are 400 years after Christ. It is how they are interpreted which decides their orthodoxy.

orthodox means generally approved. accepted teaching

Is it just me, but, generally speaking, when you see long posts, churning around concepts of what denomination is what, the raging debates ensuing, doesn't it just seem like confusion? Is truth and the simple gospel that saves and sanctifies this complicated, or has it been and is it being mucked-up, to where the point is lost? In the interest of keeping centered in Christ, I find myself just using the Page-Down key more and more, as the real, pure beauty and light of God is, as if, being run through a shredder, and I wonder why people wish all the confusion introduced into their spiritual being.
