Well it's sunday and I was requested to go to church this morning, I have been to this church and it's nice but i cannot seem to be moved to go to church these days. I have been to many churches and I admit some of them are really nice but I never seem to find the one i am looking for. When I go to a church the one main thing I am keeping an eye out for is that fire that burning love and passion for God. when I am in the service I look around at the ppl at the pastor at everything but I cannot sense or see this fire I am seeking. I don't know if sensing is the right word after all I am not a psychic or anything I just feel that if that fire is there I will be able to tell. not to mention something inside me simply doesn't click when I go to church like it just isn't the one for me.

I know that if you go to church only to see what it is lacking then that's all you will see but at the same time is not equally important to be in a church community that is for you? So I haven't been to church in quite a while and I don't have a ride to any other church so I spend my sunday just by being with God but I would love to go to church especially one with that fire I seek. Am i being picky?

No I don't think you are being picky, I think you need to be praying for God to direct you to a church. When you walk in the door of the "right" church it will feel like you have come home. That is how it happened for me.

Do you see the fire at home looking at four walls?

I see the fire in other ppl I see the fire sometimes in myself but I don't look to a building or a place for the fire but rather the ppl in it. Church is not a building but the body of believers in it

The church building is where a lot of ppl go for community with other believers to learn more about God to worship him, the gathering of the saints seems to happen the most in church.

I'm having similar experiences, I think... my wife has found a church she likes, so I go there with her... (the music, maybe a video)... I usually slip out during the sermon...

seems to be working pretty well...

this church also has a a big push for small groups, so we go to one of those... I contribute to the parts I like, and close my eyes and rest during the other parts...

my wife calls this 'church a la carte'

I've always seen what churches lack. And then I see how I can help fill the lack. In my case, that's part of my gifts, so it seems plain as the nose on my face, (and Jimmy Durrante is envious of my nose. It's huge. lol)

Of course, that gifting also includes administrating, but that's not bossing other people, like I keep thinking that word ought to mean. I can organize. One church had a bunch of women who wanted to do something, but didn't know what. Someone found out a member couldn't afford clothes, so we organized a clothes swap. A couple was overwhelmed by a colicky baby. (Boy, I still hear that baby screaming while we babysat, and that baby has his own baby now. lol) We organized babysitting services for those who really needed help. (And then had to explain to rich people it wasn't free babysitting. It was for people in need. A down side of organizing.)

The cool part is when I find out there are people doing. I was a member of a Presbyterian church. One thing all Presbyterians have in common is a presbytery. That's a group of like-minded churches gathering together to help each other. I started seeing different ministries in different presbyteries that I didn't know was happening. I figured if I didn't know, no one else did either. Wrongo. They had a ministry to tell all the ministries about what's going on in different places. I thought nothing was happening. Next thing I know I'm writing the monthly newsletter to let folks know, while following the head of that group around to the different churches so he could tell what's going on. (He made me get up and talk! ME! I don't get in front to talk. I'm a behind-the-scenes person. Sacred me to death, but that was God getting me out of my comfort zone.)

So, okay, you think you found a church not doing anything. We ARE the church. Do something. You might be shocked to find there really is something going on there. Scarier still -- you might be the person God placed there to start something.

Plain as the nose on my face. (Let's just not get into preaching the word, because that's as plain as the nose on my heel. I've got no nose for that. lol)

We're here to edify the church. Go. Edify.

Sounds like you are looking for more of an evangelistic type of Christian church. Look them up online and see if there is one near you. There is one near me, though i still haven't gone to church but i have heard it is very lively and the people attending are free to become filled with the holy spirit and show it.

God Bless

I can't go to church anymore. Congratulations! You are now officially part of my church. That's why I joined this site to gather with the saints. (Scary, ain't it? lol)

Not scary at all. And one of the reasons I came back to this site.

Nor would I condemn you. I can somewhat relate to this (without knowing your story, of course).

Perhaps there will come a time for both of us when we can gather physically with other believers.

For me, I'm looking for a week day bible study for ladies.

Services aren't (just) for "peek experiences" and for that "feel good feeling," they're the moment when the congregation comes together to praise and worship God. Ultimately the service isn't about "you" at all, it's about God, and He invites us to come into His presence. God is present, even in the most boring of services. Us being open to Him shouldn't be dependant on the quality of the music, sermon etc, or if the church is packed or not. Remember, we're obligated to go to church, not just to worship and praise God, but also to encourage and support one another. (Heb 10:25).

Emotions are easy to fake or create. Hence the music and lighting effects and dancing and all that fluff. Want to see fire in someones life? Look to see how they are living, if they are obedient to God then there is real fire.

I have not been a member of a church in a long time, because I have not found one that cares for God. But that may change, I did attend one a couple weeks ago where they have no 'Pastor ____', Reverend, father etc. And their beliefs are very close to perfect, more than I would have thought possible even a couple months ago. Just haven't been able to attend due to family obligations.

They do have a couple who teach and the things they teach are so awesome, their understanding of the Bible is amazing.

Sometimes a congregation is filled with people who all just have a very small flame.

Then, when someone shows up who has a very large fire, it increases all the flame that each person already has.

Sometimes, all it takes is someone to come in who is not afraid to worship the Father in front of others to cause lots of others to lose their self consciousness as well.

I am one of the self conscious ones. I try not to be. But I need that one worship leader to come up and let it all hang out in front of God, so that I can add my little bit of fire to the flame... I reserve my full devotion and worship of God for private one on one time. Not sure why, I'm just quirky that way around the general public...

I wouldn't say that you're picky. There are churches that have doctrines in order to keep the peace and to stay on track according to the ministery that they feel they are supposed to fulfill. Human nature (carnal minds) always get into the mix and think they have to put on some sort of show, and/or appeal to the masses in order to flourish. No matter how good they try to be, they will fail in areas that are not detectable where Satan has infiltrated. Satan always comes with scripture. These dead churches consciously shy away from offending some with the whole truth when preaching, and use just a smidgen of the Word Sunday after Sunday for that purpose. If you cannot see/feel the fire, it probably has gone out, and the congregation isn't aware. When ya can't experience the fire that should be there, it probably is because the church consciously practices traditions that appeal to the masses, compromising with worldly values just to pay the bills, and the pastor.

Revelation 2:13-16
[SUP]13 [/SUP]I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Ezekiel 34:2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks?

Jeremiah 23:1 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord.

If you discern something, intercede. The gifts arnt for us, but to encourage and edify each other. Perhaps its what they need. Some people are self seeking and not even realising it, and I'm talking about the ones that leave churches because of this or that or the other, sometimes you most certainly are right to leave, other times its just self seeking.

Church isn't really about our walk with God. Well, it is, of course, but the Bible says it is more about fellowship with one another.

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." Hebrews 10:24-25

So the whole point of going to church, is to meet with other Christians, to encourage one another, to love and do good works. That means that if you don't go to church (choose not to go!) you are missing out on the opportunity to bless someone, to help someone, or be loved and love in return.

So if you are there, God is there. If you are ministering, God is ministering.

As for fire, I tend to think that emotional experiences are highly overrated. Someone else posted about a solid, consistent walk with God. That means prayer, Bible reading, meditation, journalling, reading Christian books, listening to inspiring Christian music, etc. And letting the Holy Spirit transform us as we reach out to a world dying without Christ.

So find a church that has love! I guarantee you, a church with love is one that is on fire for God. In a way no outward manifestations can mimic.

Fire........... Humm? You cook a good and satisfying meal with hundreds of small, glowing briquettes. joining together to create one effective unit. And a big flame really doesn't go so well.
