Alright, I don't know about this in other places, but here in Canada, when you see a pair of shoes hanging from a telephone wire, it means there are drugs being sold near by. So ever since I can remember, there has been a old pair of shoes hanging from the phone wire outside the back door at my church. WELL! We finally got them taken down when the local electric company came to do some work on the poles. So being that the shoes used to represent sin and stuff that's just not good, we have turned it into a challenge to come up with a way that we can make them into something good, to represent the new life and hope that Jesus gives us. Some of the ideas we already have are: ~ planting flowers in them and ~ creating an organization that collects people's old shoes and gives them to the homeless, women's shelter, or taking them on a missions trip.

We we are looking for more, unique and creative ideas of what we can do with these shoes to make something that was occe bad, and make it something new. Thanks in advance :)

Whatever the reason is for the shoes being hung there, it's all related to sin and things that are not good. In this case, we know that they're drug shoes :)

My older brother threw his worn-out sneakers over the telephone wires when he finally got a new pair. This was back many moons ago when we were poor and lived in the ghetto in Philadelphia. Other kids would do it, too. There was no reason for it other than my brother was glad he got new sneakers and hanging the old ones over a wire was just plain funny. :D

I know a man who was trying to quit smoking so he took snuff and sprinkled it in his shoes and wore it without socks(he said it absorbed into his skin like a nicotine patch),,,

Why would a drug dealer hang shoes over a wire telling the police exactly where he intends to sell drugs? Wouldn't that be defeating his purpose? Isn't he trying to avoid the cops?

I wouldn't put it past some dunce to throw sneakers over a line to mark his drug dealing territory. But that's pretty stupid because the cops will pick him up in no time. I would think most dealers are a little more scrupulous. But who knows? The Bible says there's nothing new under the sun. :p

Guys. I don't know why people do it. It's a thing in Canada. Don't ask me, I don't do drugs. I'm looking for ideas of how to make them a good thing.

That's cool, sister. :) But I wouldn't keep the old shoes as who knows, they may have athlete's foot or something worse. Yuck! :p Maybe buy a flower planter in the shape of a sneaker like this one:

where i grew up, a pair of shoes over a wire meant that someone had been killed. it was their shoes, that a friend tossed over the wire - no longer needing them, or "hey esé you forgot your shoes! ((tosses toward the heavens))"

i guess if there's a lot of drug-dealing, there might also be murder, so someone might make the connection. *shrug* seems like it means a lot of things to a lot of people. maybe just a prank - "
ha! see if you can get your shoes back!"

I think putting scripture on them relating to how God Guides our Path and others that relate to feet and our path. Perhaps still have the shoes hanging somewhere where the scripture can be read...

To give them a new and productive life.... maybe you should baptize them. (But only if they understand why they are being baptized, and agree, wholeheartedly.)

I don't think you fully understand this. We don't actually know who the shoes belong to. Can't really baptize shoes.
