My family keep trying to persuade me that Jesus want be to live a life and never wants me to be sick and wants me to prosper etc.

This to me, is absolutely contrary to what scripture teaches!

Maybe I glorify God through prospering, however, maybe I glorify God by being struck with a horrible disease and still praising him, showing the world how satisfying he is.

Here are but a few scriptures that seem to be contrary to this idea that Jesus want us to have wealth, health and prosperity.

Psalm 34:19 -- ''Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but Lord delivereth him out of them all.''

2 Corinthians 4:16-17 -- ''So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison''

Romans 8:16-18 -- ''The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.''

Philippians 1:29 -- ''For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him''

James 1:2-4 -- ''Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. ''

2 Timothy 3:12 -- ''Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted''

1 Peter 4:12-13 -- ''Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. ''

2 Corinthians 6:4-10 -- '' but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love; by truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; 8 through honor and dishonor, through slander and praise. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.''

2 Timothy 1:8 -- ''Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God''

Acts 5:41 -- ''Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.''

Romans 5:1-5 -- ''Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. ''

Luke 9:23 -- ''And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.''

Matthew 10:21-22 -- ''Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved''

Phillipans 3:8-11 -- ''Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. ''

1 Peter 4:1 ''Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,''

Colossians 1:24 -- ''Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church''

1 Corinthians 15:19 -- ''If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.''

My real question here is, does anyone here have a more concise way of dealing with this false gospel?

where our treasure is, there will our hearts be

on earth? with moths and rust?
or in heaven, with Him, where nothing can separate us from this great and wonderful prize?

laboring for that which does not perish :)

The Lord wants us to have life and have it more abundantly. For this to happen our lives must align with His will and desire. This does not mean that we will be blessed in a financial sense in this life although that may happen also, but we will be blessed in the things or areas of our life that would most benefit.

No, I don't think that God wants us to become sick either but He allows certain things to happen to glorify His name. By that, I believe that to mean that someone will become blessed with the power of God working through us. Now, if we take care of our bodies the best that we can knowing that our bodies are a temple to God you may indeed be less sick and possibly live a long and productive life. Even if we do not live as we ought too, the Lord is compassionate and merciful and may alleviate the pain and mitigate the suffering from the damage that we caused by willful neglect.

The gospel that you heard may not have been false but as a result of scripture being interpreted by those possibly lacking discernment. The Lord indeed wants us to prosper. We should pray that we are blessed with the wisdom and knowledge to realize it when it happens.

"life" "stuff"

And this is eternal life,
that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

John 10:

7Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[SUP]a[/SUP] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
11“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

I think the abundant life part begins after we leave this realm and enter into the next with our good Shepherd.

In light of the prosperity gospel:

James 4:4
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

1 John 2:15
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

John 15:19
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

John 12:25
Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

I always suspect Christians who are doing too well in this world.

The Lord wants us to proper but contrary to the prosperity gospel God isn't gonna give us every thing we ask for.

The reason that the propserity teachers have such meg followings is the vast majority of people that attend their services are carnal minded.

you've done well trusting in scripture and not in man, not even trusting nor trying to please your own family (as JESUS SAYS your own family can be your worse enemies).... and it is so.(not always, but often).

"a more concise way" .... take care what you listen to. trust yahweh always, in and for and through all things, listen to yahweh ALL THE TIME (pray unceasingly; no church can show you how, but yahweh is able to accomplish this easily).

do not associate with anyone who is given to temper, or who(won't repent and) is greedy, selfish, or idolatrous(rcc et al)...

as JESUS says "bad company corrupts good morals" and willingly hanging around the willfully sinful who are not trying to
find the truth or repent is just bad and trouble for you.

your friends will be much fewer, perhaps, but you will save your heart and mind and soul much turmoil, and perhaps even more important life.

I wouldn't say they're carnal, but materialistic (same way we were) (or still are) and, if I had a genius "god", that would serve "me" to ask whatever thing I'm lazy to get or work for and, that, is fleshy, as you properly said.

yes, this:

You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly,
to spend it on your passions.
(James 4:3)

Satan has power to give out wealth in this world, am sure. he offered it to Christ when he tempted Him in the desert.

this isn't, like some say, 'not getting what you pray for because your faith is weak' -- this is not getting what we pray for because we are praying for the wrong things, not asking with the mind of Christ. asking according to our own will, not His.

i'm guilty - how about y'all?
i thank God that He makes this clear to me; that He answers such prayers of mine with wisdom to teach my heart instead of with gold, because wisdom is better than those things :)

The Prosperity Gospel, takes $$ and uses that to set up a 'benchmark' or image by which a christian should be noticed or 'deemed a christian'. The teachers preachers that use this platform, very evident today, were prophesied to come along . Peter talks about them. Whose end shall be according their works. Money itself is not evil, being Prosperous is not evil. God Creates the RICH AND THE POOR, He is totally Sovereign over His Creation. when man comes along and preaches prosperity ,to use it as a benchmark to 'image man' whether he/she should have abundance or be in poverty.. then that is WRONG. that is Idolatry. Those Ordained to Receive His Blessings beyond comprehension in their lives, thru the Riches of His Grace will be blessed beyond comprehension, and it wont be thru 'giving to get' as they teach today.. thru avarice, using the Word of God deceitfully..... they Corrupt the Word of God, (hucksters) in the name of Avarice. Being Prosperous or Having Money is not evil. its the LOVE of money that is evil. and when you take and use that to IMAGE a person according to a certain 'gospel'.. then thats When God intervenes and removes the Idolatry. Lots of Idolatry on TV and Radio and Internet again.. This Post page ISN'T LONG ENOUGH to contain all those who corrupt the Word of the God thru their avarice. This is not surprising as for the Times we live in. the Harlot of Revelation and its members will PRODUCE that Laodicean type 'image' of prosperity and wealth and lavishnesses on the Gentiles that are here during Daniels 70th Week, It will be just a part of the Sandy Foundation of the gospel of man, that he will hold out those TRAPPED in the Hour of Trial, to come upon those who are alive at that time. Indeed! Paul taught about BEING CONTENT, when he was in abundance and suffered great need!. there is a Mystery in that Contentness, that comes from the Shadow of the Cross! Resting in Him! indeed!

The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the Maker of them all.

Jesus does want us to prosper and enjoy life but not in the way many want to. Many go these prosperity gospel teachings because they teach what they want to hear not what they need to hear. They say if you give enough God will bless you with double of what you gave or God wants you to be happy to be free from troubles and worry he wants you to have that nice red Ferrari that you want but you need to give give give.

I don't know for sure if this is what your family is trying to teach you but the basis of the prosperity gospel is they tell you God wants you to have all this stuff HOWEVER you must give to the church generously. Whoever made up the prosperity gospel must have died a very rich man

The saddest thing of this WRONG gospel is when they hurt people's faith, their believing in GOD by wrong agents... It needs time to be healed.

Someone, on other thread here posted the Benny Hinn (or his agents) asked someone 400 $ to be healed (and she wasn''t) he or he will get that money, one way or another, but FAITH needs several miracles to come back.

I dont get sick very often, but when I do, I know He has allowed it to happen, I got really sick this last November thru January, but in that SICKNESS, I learned so much about His physcial crucifixtion, It Humbled me beyond measure, thru the Sickness He carried me as I was able to thru the Power of the Holy Ghost, but what He endured on that tree, Wow, the sickness I had had to do with my shoulders and and infection. that type of infirmity.. allowed me to Grasp somewhat of what He felt Physically when they Nailed His arms to the Tree.. wow.. I dont know How He did it. without sinning, only way I know is that He truly Was God in the Flesh.. its the Only Way! wow.. NOT all sickness is because of Sin, God may ordain it to teach, or the devil may attack when He is told not to... or some are just sick because of natural things that happen.

prosperity teachers and preachers will tell you ALL sickness if because of your sin or some hidden sin in your life.. or your not giving enough or not enough Faith.....lol.. NO SUCH THING AS HIDDEN SIN.. lolz.. do you realize there is Sickness that Happens because of the Work of God? yes indeed!

For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.

For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

Receive him therefore in the Lord with all Gladness; and hold such in reputation:

Because for the Work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

Philippians 2
