Anything in this font comes from my notes

12) Debauchery
*misuse of the body
* a readiness to indulge in pleasures
*indecency, lewd dancing
* anorexia or bulimia
*no respect
*man at the mercy of his passions
-impulses
-cravings

-emotions
-mastribation
*undisciplined
-unlimited pleasure

-gluttony
-laziness
-smoking

There's a lot in here I agree with. What I don't agree with I highlighted in red. I don't think anorexia and bulimia is a sin. It's a coping mechanism, just like self harm. They are BAD coping mechanisms but they are coping mechanisms. They are done to get a sense of control because they may be in a very bad situation. What do you think about this?
Also how are emotions part of debauchery? Can someone explain this? I can understand certain emotions but you can't be like "all emotions are bad" thoughts?
I also understand how a readiness to indulge in pleasures can be debauchery however does this mean we can't have fun every now and then? And I mean like good clean fun. I get pleasure out of playing mancala (a board game), I get pleasure out of writing and I get pleasure out of helping people because I love love love psychology. Are those pleasures bad? I guess my main question is: is pleasure bad?
Also how are impulses and cravings bad? I understand if you give in to bad impulses and cravings; those are bad but if I have a craving for a chocolate bar or popcorn is that bad? Is it bad if I go get a chocolate bar or popcorn because I wanted one? Let's say I had an impulse to jump in a puddle and I do. Is that bad?

ICOC had a way of making very broad and general statements. I want to narrow some of this down so I can better understand what really is bad and what really isn't.

Thanks

This is legalism at its worst.

misuse of the body can include anything from tripping and skinning your knee to public orgies some are obviously outright sin and others are certainly certainly ill-advised but not necessarily sin.

* a readiness to indulge in pleasures When I sit in front of a well made desert I am ready to indulge in pleasures, and Jesus is 'come that my joy may be full' Jn 15:11
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
KJV

*indecency, lewd dancing Indecency and lewdness are definitely sinful; but what COC calls indecent or lewd might not be indecent or lewd at all.

anorexia or bulimia these are eating disorders and should be regarded in the same way as the flu or a toothache.

*no respect is so undefined as to be meaningless. Having no respect for a child molestor is appropriate; but having no respect for your pastor is usually not appropriate.

-impulses, -cravings, -emotions are normal responses of our bodies they are useful but should not be allowed to control us.

masturbation is controversial and I have seen very reasonable arguments pro and con from people with otherwise exemplary testimony.

The remainder of the list is certainly sinful
