well do you love yourself or hate yourself. If I ever am able to love myself it would be because he loved me first not because of who I am or anything. I recall early in my faith I truly understood grace and I could look inisde myself and only see him and I only knew myself as his child not this sinner and inadequate unworthy person I see now. I believe this was a foreshadow of who I was going to be in the future not yet come. Now if you truly are in love with yourslelf and are mesmerized everytime you see yourself in the mirror and are always talking about how amazing you are that is not self love that is self obsession
I know I am freely accepted in the Beloved on account of Christ despite myself. With that, I can freely love others without getting hung up on myself.

I think GOD wants us to loves others.in the sense that we love our selves enough to not want to go to hell so I think we should love others by telling those who don't truly have GOD in there life about his word his love etc and I feel that is a big way that we should love others.

I actually have a special gift far before I even became a Christian. I am able to make friends with almost any kind of person, ppl who are normally mean and rude I can befriend and they become nice I make friends with ppl who are seen as loser I make friends with ppl who are seen as awesome and popular I make friends with Christians atheists catholics and even ppl like a muslum.

I guess I like this about myself but it's clearly a God given gift to rally others together so it isn't my own
AND EVEN PPL LIKE A MUSLUM?
What do you mean by that?
Last thing I noted is The Word says ALL have sinned ALL ...
and God is no respector of persons ... why are you?

even that muslum God desperately wants because he loves that person deeply and I made friends with this muslum and he gave up his religion. Even if he didn't I would die for this person heck I will die for even a satanist and do you know why? Because Jesus did the exact same thing so explain to me why I did what I did?

Me? No,had God not shown me what it truly means to be a Christian had he not filled my heart with love I would be the same as his thinking. But love cares far more about the sake of others than himself and love sees what no one else does which is why I am so in awe as to who he is

Why not answer my two questions I asked you and cut to the chase!
Your statements are a perfect example of the title of the post.

So I know a lot of you don't like the whole "love yourself concept" because you don't think it's Christian or found in the Bible. What about self-hate? I have seen what it looks like to hate oneself, and I have felt it. It is a dark place to be. Self-hate can lead to things like cutting, anorexia, bulimia and other severe issues; even drugs and alcohol. So I would say some self-love is healthy...not so much that you are conceited of course but enough that you can look in the mirror and say, "I really like who I am looking at."

Also if you look at the OP you would have seen:

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. -Romans 5:8

So what are we? Sinners. And what does God do? Love us. So we should love ourselves not because we are sinners but because God loves us.

This verse is giving an example to greater understand that Christ takes care of the Church as a normal minded person takes care of their bodies. JF's talking about people who don't have this kind of mind of which don't take care of there bodies as they should.
*hug* you get me!!!

neither concept is Biblical, honey. neither self-love nor self-hate.

it's death to self...i must decrease; He must increase.

yes, God loves us, and that's where our identity lies. :)

You CAN love yourself and still be humble. You CAN love yourself and still sacrifice. Loving yourself is different from having a huge ego.

Also did you not read the OP?? Helloooo??

i did read it. :)

and i am sorry you're offended. :(

i understand a little from reading other things you've posted that you're hurting.
when people hurt us, we tend to go the opposite direction to make ourselves feel better...
at least, it's true for me.

i do agree we find ourselves enveloped in the Perfect love of God, by His grace.
all the love, approval, validation, acceptance...everything we need has already been given us
by the Only One who gives perfectly.

that's where our rest is. it's where we find our hope and consolation.
self-love is our default mode.
that's why the Bible commands we love others as ourselves...it's already happening in our hearts.

we are not to consider ourselves worthless when we've been purchased by the blood of Christ.
we are of great value to Him.
but we are to take our eyes off ourselves and look to our neighbor's needs.
and most of all....eyes off self and on the Lord Jesus.

Not to be mean but how do you reconcile this verse with what you are saying?

Matthew 22

[SUP]34 [/SUP]Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. [SUP]35 [/SUP]One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: [SUP]36 [/SUP]“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
[SUP]37 [/SUP]Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[SUP][c][/SUP] [SUP]38 [/SUP]This is the first and greatest commandment. [SUP]39 [/SUP]And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.[SUP][d][/SUP] [SUP]40 [/SUP]All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Now the question should be where does Jesus say anywhere in there that we don't love ourselves?

Jesus is quoting this which was given to Israel by God

Leviticus 19

[SUP]18 [/SUP]“‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

Again where does God say in there that we do not love ourselves? Does scripture ever say we don't love ourselves?

Question: How do you talk to yourself? Are you nice to yourself? How SHOULD you talk to yourself?

Like this (Option A): I'm so ugly! Look at that blemish! An I'm fat too! No one could ever love me because I'm so fat and not only am I fat but I'm just a terrible person. I did a horrible thing last week and I prayed to God for forgiveness but I'm still horrible because of it! I am filth! I am rotten to the core! I should have just died! I need to die! Father God please kill at your earliest convince! I don't want to live in this skin. I want to rip my soul out of my skin because I am so repulsed by myself.

or

Like this (option B): I feel good today. I am a child of the Most High God and things are going good. I messed up last week, what I did was wrong. I asked God's forgiveness so now I'm going to learn from my mistake and move on. I forgive myself for that thing I did last week because He forgave me. I give myself permission to love my body. I give myself permission to love others freely. I give myself permission to feel what I feel. I give myself permission to be humble. I give myself permission to be ok with who and what I am.

Note: Option A is NOT an exaggeration. Some of those lines I took right out of my own head when I was going through my darkest times. I know Job said some of those exact things but please keep in mind all his children died, he lost all his money and his skin was falling off. You have to get to a REALLY bad spot to be thinking those things.

Please be honest with your answer. Which one looks better to you?

well, you're right! :)
when we're focusing on ourselves there's very little time for anything else.

when we engage in self-loathing or hurting, where are we looking? what's our focus?
it's actually self-centered thinking that's our trouble at that point. :(

you are loved! you are accepted in the Beloved!
give yourself a little time to digest what a great love has been bestowed upon you. ♥

i don't mean to be adversarial, and i love you, too.
