The past couple of days God has been pushing me to read in the book of James and it is exactly what I need at this very moment. I was reading in James 5:13-18 where it says:

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess you trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

Never underestimate or minimize the power of God working through prayer. Believing prayer that releases the power of God can change reality, turn the course of nations, and turn things around. The bible states that the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. This means that a Christian who knows how to pray in faith can really change things. God is the most power Being in the universe, and we can move the hand of God to accomplish through prayer things that could never be done by natural means.

So my question from all this, is anointing with oil necessary for healing? And please share praise reports of prayers that God has answered after praying earnestly for something.

You can find a couple of studies Here and Here on healing and prayer that you might find helpful...

END QUOTE.......

We are instructed to have the elders gather around and anoint the one seeking healing and pray over them, so that's a pretty good example to follow. HOWEVER, unless FAITH is complete and unwavering, healing will elude many.

We had an interesting sermon about a month ago about Mary and Martha walking to Ysehua's grave. They were carrying this balsam oil with them even though Yeshua told them that he would rise again after 3 days.

The interesting part of the sermon (and relevant to your question) was when our Pastor explained to us the difference between balsam oil and anointing oil...

The Hebrew meaning of balsam oil is literally oil that you are pouring out expecting nothing in return. You are basically pouring this oil on the ground.
Anointing oil on the other hand was oil that was expected to bear fruit. You pour it out with expectation, there is no difference in the oil itself but the expectations are different.

You don't need oil to heal somebody in prayer but with the anointing oil you are not only walking in faith but you are expecting an anointing from God. You are expecting Him to show up and breath life into this situation. We should all learn to carry anointing oil and not balsam oil to our circumstances.
