The grace and the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ is a gift as is shown here….

Romans 5:17 “For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)”

Romans 5:21 “That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Galatians 2:21 “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”

But if we are to reign with Christ by the grace of God, and to also abide in His righteousness, do we then walk in
unrighteousness? For all unrighteousness is sin. (
1 John 5:17)

Romans 6:13 “Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
2 Corinthians 5:21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Again if we are truly made a new man in Christ, and Christ is truly in us, do we continue to walk in
unrighteousness?

1 Peter 2:24 “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”

So truly you will know who is, or who is not, in Christ by their fruits.(
Matthew 7:20)

1 John 2:29 “If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
1 John 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
1 John 3:10 “In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.”

1 John 2:6 “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

Colossians 1 1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,
[SUP]2 [/SUP]To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,
[SUP]5 [/SUP]For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
[SUP]6 [/SUP]Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:
[SUP]7 [/SUP]As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;
[SUP]8 [/SUP]Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
[SUP]10 [/SUP]That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
[SUP]12 [/SUP]Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
[SUP]14 [/SUP]In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
[SUP]15 [/SUP]Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
[SUP]16 [/SUP]For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
[SUP]17 [/SUP]And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
[SUP]20 [/SUP]And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
[SUP]21 [/SUP]And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
[SUP]22 [/SUP]In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
[SUP]23 [/SUP]If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
[SUP]24 [/SUP]Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
[SUP]26 [/SUP]Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
[SUP]27 [/SUP]To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
[SUP]28 [/SUP]Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
[SUP]29 [/SUP]Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

You can come into this through an abiding branch as well.

The branch abiding in the vine (which is Christ, our rightouesness) which would bring forth the same fruits (in manifestation) in his branches

Even as the fruit of the Spirit is in all righteousness
Ephes 5:9

For the fruit (( of the Spirit )) is
in all goodness (( and righteousness )) and truth
(Gal 5:22)

Through abiding in the vine we are filled

Phil 1:11
(( Being filled )) with the fruits (( of righteousness ))
which are by (( Jesus Christ ))
(( unto )) the glory and praise of God.

John says let no man decieve you in this

1 John 3:7
Little children, let no man (( deceive you )):
he (( that doeth )) righteousness is righteous,
even as (( he is)) righteous
.

1 John 2:29
If ye know that (( he is )) righteous,
ye know tha
t every one (( that doeth )) righteousness
is (( born )) of him.

And
1 John 3:10
(( In this )) the children of God (( are manifest ))

And likewise,

John 15:8
(( Herein )) is my Father glorified,

Even as he says,

John 15:8
(( Herein )) is my Father glorified,
that (( ye bear )) much fruit;
so shall ye be (( my disciples ))

Abide in the vine

John 15:5
He that abideth (( in me )) and I (( in him ))
(( the same )) bringeth (( forth )) much fruit

Being filled by Jesus Christ (the vine)

Phil 1:11
(( Being filled )) with (( the fruits of )) righteousness
which are by Jesus Christ,
unto the glory and praise of God.

As the same are manifested in the children of God

1 John 3:10
(( In this )) the children of God (( are manifest )),
(( and )) the children of the devil:
whosoever
(( doeth not )) righteousness is not of God,
neither he that
(( loveth not)) his brother.

The children of the devil manifested in not manifesting the same

John 5:4
Abide in me and I in you.
As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself,
except it abide in the vine
no more can ye except ye abide in me.

1John 2:24
Let that therefore abide in you,
which ye have heard from the beginning.

If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you,
ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

2 John 1:9
Whosoever transgresseth,
and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God.

John 15:7
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you,
ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Me and my words, is twofold

Phil 1:11
Being filled with the fruits of righteousness
which are by Jesus Christ,
unto the glory and praise of God.

The fruits of righteousness which are by Christ are manifested in the children of God by the Spirit of Christ.

Matthew 12:33
Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. :)

Seems to show the same picture again and again in respects to the fruit.

For example here

Mat 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Mat 7:20
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Mat 7:21
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Mat 7:22
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied (( in thy name)) ? and (( in thy name)) have cast out devils? and (( in thy name )) done many wonderful works?

Mat 7:23 ((
And then )) will I profess unto them, I never (( knew you )) depart from me, (( ye )) that work iniquity.

2 Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal,
The Lord (( knoweth them )) that are his. And, Let every one (( that nameth )) the name of Christ (( depart )) from iniquity.

So we have in the one ...
The Lord (( knoweth them )) that are his.

And in the other.... I profess unto them, I never (( knew you ))

And Paul admonishing them saying... Let every one (( that nameth )) the name of Christ (( depart )) from iniquity.

Because Paul knew Jesus would say... I never (( knew you )) depart from me, (( ye )) that work iniquity.

So either depart from working inquity or depart from him (who work iniquity) as is shown

And given this was of false prophets more specifically (even of those working iniquity) it says here also

Psalm 125:5
As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth (( with )) the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.

So it shows the Lord leading those who turn aside to their crooked ways with these, I cant think of an example except teachers according to ones lusts, and even though I might not believe this one goes with, it speaks of prophesying in his name, and here you can see prophesying, a spirit of falsehood and of what was prophesied and how God sees how the prophet and people are just perfect for one another.

Mic 2:11
If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.

Thats why I figured it wouldnt hurt any.

But if we . . .

And there is where the error begins - by taking the focus off of Christ and His Work resulting in His gifts of forgiveness, righteousness and new life - and putting the focus on self . . . "But if we . . . "

It's Not About You

But if we are to reign with Christ by the grace of God, and to also abide in His righteousness, do we then walk in unrighteousness? For all unrighteousness is sin. (1 John 5:17)

11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It [Grace] teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. (from Titus 2)

4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. (from Eph. 2)

It's not that we are to reign in the future with Christ - we are seated with Christ NOW in the heavenly realms.

There is no Scriptural phrase, "reign with Christ by the grace of God". We're seated with Christ now because of the Work of Christ, not because of our righteous acts, but by faith in HIS righteous acts.

The Epistles are all about teaching us who we are in Christ and walking as who we are in Him. Putting on the New Man that we already are in Him.

20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (from Eph. 4)

8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. (from Col. 3)

Putting our focus on ourselves is a mistake - we are exhorted to do the following as believers:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. (from Hebrews 12)

The throwing off of hindrances is possible only if we're fixing our eyes on Jesus, not on self, for HE is the pioneer (other translations say author) and perfecter of faith.

6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. (from Col. 2)

Again if we are truly made a new man in Christ, and Christ is truly in us, do we continue to walk in unrighteousness?

Sometimes we're going to sin. Some may live in a pattern of sin for a period of time in their lives. Those who live under a system of Law or a circle of denominational or ideological circle of laws will actually sin more because the Bible says that law arouses sinful passions (Rom. 7). Live by the Spirit and His Grace and sin will be reduced in your life.

Why?

Because Grace teaches us.

What does law actually do for us?

Nothing except point out our sin. It does nothing to keep us from sinning, it simply sits there accusing us when we do sin.

Grace provides a redemptive context - the Work of Christ and who we are in Him - when we do sin, and assures us thus:

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. (from 1 Jn. 2)

And that advocacy relies on who He is, not on what we do or do not do:

25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. (from Heb. 7)

We bear fruit, we don't produce it. Even righteousness is described as a harvest in the New Covenant:

11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. (from Heb. 12)

Discipline is teaching and training. Grace teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.

Living righteously is about learning about and understanding and walking as who we are in Christ. When we learn that (which Grace teaches us), that teaching and training (discipline) produces a harvest of righteousness and peace.

This concept is also relayed in the Fruit of the Spirit - when we are governed by the Spirit and not by Law the Fruit of the Spirit is produced (Gal. 5).

It's counterintuitive, but how the New Covenant Scriptures instruct - right behavior comes out of right belief; knowing who you are in Christ and why.

The word of his grace teaches us this

Ti 2:12
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Romans 8:13
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die:
but if ye through the Spirit do mortify
the deeds of the body,ye shall live.

But if ye is even used by Paul

Yep, we always have choices to make - but notice that the choices are not flesh or law for righteousness, but flesh or Spirit; flesh or Grace.

What is the focus?

Me or the Spirit?

Me or Grace?

On what does the Law put the focus?

Flesh.

Live after the flesh and what do the Scriptures say is the result?

Both posts emphasize grace and you had pointed out the words BUT IF WE to be in error

Paul uses the same words BUT IF YE

If you did a keyword search with YE rather then WE that would have pulled that up for you

I didn't say it was about me (or self), not sure how you got that out of my OP? But we are to search ourselves and see if we are walking Christ like.

Here's the "But if we" part you call error....

Galatians 2:17
But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

A believer needs to check themselves "if" Christ is in them...

2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

And yes we shall reign with Christ in the future...

Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

I don't know what OP she is reading? Where did I say this about our own works, and our own righteousness, or self works and law for righteousness? Here is another one trying to build a straw man argument. LOL!

You can quote grace around here but if theres any obedience in relation to grace its a Moses thing by default or something even if you quote the apostles, I have watched this over and over again.

Grace is for the obedience of the faith

Romans 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

Romans 6:16
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

Romans 6:17
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart
that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

Thats what grace teaches us denying of worldly and ungodly lusts

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation
hath appeared to all men,

Titus 2:12 Teaching us that,
denying ungodliness and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

So we can be assured,

Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you:
for ye are not under the law,
but under grace.

So you get jumped on from the start on the BUT IF WE premise and Paul (in the context of both grace) and mortifying the deeds of the body said likewise, therefore if you erred Paul the apostle erred.

Trees planted rather then walking should be

Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

And he is glorified in the branches and trees bearing the fruit of the Spirit (even the fruit of righteousness)

Mat 15:13
But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

The blind man when in his first glimpse of sight (given to him by Jesus) had seen men as trees walking.
A lot of good scripture and symbolisms found in plants and trees...

Isaiah 61:3
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

Matthew 15:13
