It is amazing when I study the Word of God that I find secret precious rare nuggets in the Word. I could never understood why Jews hated the Samaritan and called Jesus a Samaritan! Why did they hate each other? Was because of two beliefs system of the faith which one has the true belief of Yahweh? I do know that the Samaritans were racially mixed not a pure Jew. Even during Biblical times racism existed. I believe this will be a three day study for me because I need to take notes and library resources. Can I do an attachment on the forum?[h=1]John 8 English Standard Version (ESV)[/h][h=3]Before Abraham Was, I Am[/h]48 The Jews answered him, “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?” 49 Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. [h=1]John 8 New Living Translation (NLT)[/h]48 The people retorted, “You Samaritan devil! Didn’t we say all along that you were possessed by a demon?”49 “No,” Jesus said, “I have no demon in me. For I honor my Father—and you dishonor me.[h=1]John 8 King James Version (KJV)[/h]48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.Pay attention to Jesus responses! Jesus only answered one question that He is not a demon. Hmmmm, interesting! Lets do a research on the history of the Samaritans! I prefer the library information because there is a large Jewish literature section, but I am sick today. I will used the internet resources for a quick background of the Samaritan and Jewish relationship of hatred.1. Who were the Samaritans and why were they important? | Catholic Answers Read the full article for yourselves.[h=2]Full Question[/h]The Gospels place emphasis on the Samaritans (for example, in the parable of the Good Samaritan). Who were they and why were they important?[h=2]Answer[/h]The Samaritans were people who lived in what had been the Northern Kingdom of Israel. Samaria, the name of that kingdom's capital, was located between Galilee in the north and Judea in the south. The Samaritans were a racially mixed society with Jewish and pagan ancestry. Although they worshiped Yahweh as did the Jews, their religion was not mainstream Judaism. They accepted only the first five books of the Bible as canonical, and their temple was on Mount Gerazim instead of on Mount Zion in Jerusalem (Jn 4:20).The Samaritans of Jesus' day were strict monotheists. In some respects they were more strict than Jews about the commands of the Mosaic law, especially the sabbath regulations, but they did not share the Jewish stricture against pronouncing the divine name Yahweh in their oaths.Because of their imperfect adherence to Judaism and their partly pagan ancestry, the Samaritans were despised by ordinary Jews. Rather than contaminate themselves by passing through Samaritan territory, Jews who were traveling from Judea to Galilee or vice versa would cross over the river Jordan, bypass Samaria by going through Transjordan, and cross over the river again as they neared their destination. The Samaritans also harbored antipathy toward the Jews (Lk 9:52-53).2. http://www.bible.ca/archeology/bible-archeology-samaritans.htm3. Samaritans - Oxford Biblical Studies Online4.
