well, for you there isn't because you apparently decided its not for you

some people choose not to believe in Christ...some Christians choose not to receive...does not mean they are not saved...at least I hope not...but they cannot tell those who do receive there is no such thing

Tongues are also a gift which you would know if you bothered with the list...not just a sign...they are both FYI
It is amazing to me how we try to define the things of God based on our experience and not on Gods word. Do we realize that in Noahs days the people did not believe because rain never happened. In Jesus days the religious people were the ones who wanted to kill him, how are we any different. We decide to change what God has said then live based on our interpretation of what we believe. The gift of tongues is really not the issue the attack on scripture is the enemy of God has really done a job so that he could confuse that which God desires for His children to be able to overcome the obstacles that would try to defeat us.

Oooooook, now I'm making false claims. I noticed there were no verses quoted to back your "theory".

Now you have two things to prove. Give the standard beliefs of cessationism to prove I'm making false claims. I know I can back up mine..... I've researched it.
I've given them many times and you do not heed any of them. It is a simple case of you have made up your mind before you read the scriptures instead of reading them to inform your mind.
BTW, why would you make a statement about losing my salvation if you don't believe you can? Just wondering.....
Because it is a test. You believe it don't you?

I don't believe in the 'initial evidence doctrine'. Sure, people can be empowered by the Spirit and speak in tongues, but if one doesn't speak in tongues, I don't believe that someone is not necessarily filled or baptized with the Holy Spirit.

But the A/G does not teach that if you haven't spoken in tongues, you aren't saved. Back when the denomination was founded, it was a loose affiliation and many participants did not believe in having a doctrinal statement besides the Bible, but some preachers started the Oneness movement, and were a part of the A/G, so they did come up with a doctrinal statement that excluded Oneness beliefs and the Oneness split off from the A/G several years into it's founding. In the Oneness movement, there are those who believe if you haven't spoken in tongues, that you aren't saved. I'm not sure the exact year, but I'm pretty sure it has been over 80 or 90 years, so unless you are super old, you probably haven't heard an A/G preacher say that if you don't speak in tongues you aren't saved, since that is against A/G doctrine.
I was a licensed minister of the AG for about 3 years, and raised AG. I have preached in AG churches. It might not be in the bylaws, but there were/are many AG pastors that taught and preached it and still teach and preach that you must have tongues to be saved. They teach this and works based salvation and that you can lose your salvation. We left the AG for these very reasons.

I am fully acquainted with AG bylaws history and other things. The AG is full of loose cannons out in the districts. There are some AG pastors that will not hire you as an Assist or Assoc pastor, worship pastor or youth pastor if you do not believe that tongues is part of salvation and you can also lose your salvation. The will also not front you for deacon either.

What Springfield says and the districts do are 2 very different things. I betcha you are one of many that just loved the fraud that was the Brownsville revival.

Tongues ended and what you profess to have in the modern movement is nothing like what the early church demonstrated.

That is a surprise to me. I went to a couple of reasonably large A/G's, one very large. I never heard of that where I was at. But the A/G is kind of a big tent organization, so maybe there is stuff going on in districts I don't know about. I was in the movement in the 1980's, too, which was quite a while back.

Do you know what you're saying? If you are a believer then tongues is not for your enlightenment. Tongues is a sign for unbelievers not believers.

Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: 1 Corinthians 14:22a

Yeah its all good friend. Sorry if I came across like sand paper, it was not my intention.

I know the AG is suffering a constant stream of pastor brain drain. The larger churches are social clubs IMHO and the mid-smaller especially in rural areas are completely running amok.

As you know the AG was known for its missions, but giving has dried up badly. Sadly I know many AG missionaries leaving the fields because there is no resources. We are not talking lack, we are talking zero.

I know that God knows what I am concerned about and Holy Spirit will speak about it. I don;t have to know what He is saying, but I can have confidence that He is speaking on my behalf.

When I pray in tongues, it is not a sign. It is as Paul says: praying in the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 14:15
What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.

This passage does not teach that tongues are only for unbelievers. Chapter 12 shows us that tongues are among the gifts given to believers in the body for the common good. Chapter 14 shows us that, accompanied with interpretation, this gift edifies the church.

Paul said that tongues are a sign for them that believe not. That's who they are a sign for. You seem to think that tongues are only for unbelievers. That's not what that verse says, and that idea contradicts the rest of the passage.

Tongues are a sign that points to this prophecy, "and yet for all that they will not hear Me." Believers, hopefully, should not respond to speaking in tongues with that attitude, though not only the unbeliever, but also the 'unlearned' responds negatively to speaking in tongues in Paul's example.

[SUP]23 [/SUP]If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

Believers who are instructed in the faith should not have this attitude.
