Given the onset of so many threads/comments denouncing the Deity of Christ, I want to establish a POLL to try and determine how widespread this belief is here on CC.

Will try to word it so that a Yes vote proclaims the Deity of Christ and a No vote denies the Deity of Christ.

To be clear, denying the Deity of Christ means that Jesus Christ is not, never was, nor ever will be God. He is not the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, and as this is believed, then it also holds that those who deny the Deity of Christ, deny the Holy Trinity as well. One can hardly believe in the Holy Trinity and deny the Deity of Christ.

So, lets see............

YES: Jesus Christ is God the Son

(He is, was, and always will be God the Son, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity)

NO: Jesus Christ was a man.

(Flesh and blood. He was created by God, and while He is God's son, He is not God the Son.)

???: I don't know.

If you do not wish to make a comment, that is perfectly ok, but please vote.

I personally believe that Jesus always has been God or Divine in nature, but I shy away from declaring that Jesus was always God the Son. There are many who believe in what is called Incarnational Sonship which basically means that Jesus didn't become the Son of God and not God the Son until His Incarnation and I lean pretty heavily in that direction.

UMMM One of the blonds is here. :p

This is one doctrine I go running out into the night screaming because I are confusalted on it. :p

I am not sure how to reconcile verses like this

Numbers 23

19"God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Jesus over and over again makes it very plain that He is the son of man.

Matthew 17

[SUP]13 [/SUP]When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?

[SUP]14 [/SUP]They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
[SUP]15 [/SUP]“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

[SUP]16 [/SUP]Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

[SUP]17 [/SUP]Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. [SUP]18 [/SUP]And I tell you that you are Peter,[SUP][b][/SUP] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[SUP][c][/SUP] will not overcome it. [SUP]19 [/SUP]I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[SUP][d][/SUP] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[SUP][e][/SUP] loosed in heaven.” [SUP]20 [/SUP]Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

Jesus also said this

John 20

17Jesus said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.'"

Paul says this

1 Corinthians 15

[SUP]20 [/SUP]But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. [SUP]21 [/SUP]For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. [SUP]22 [/SUP]For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. [SUP]23 [/SUP]But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. [SUP]24 [/SUP]Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. [SUP]25 [/SUP]For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. [SUP]26 [/SUP]The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
[SUP]27 [/SUP]For he “has put everything under his feet.”[SUP][c][/SUP] Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. [SUP]28 [/SUP]When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.

Now that is not to say there are other things that seem to point the other way. It's just at this point I am not sure HOW to reconcile all the verses that on the surface seem to contradict each other. :p

So for now I will do as John told us to do here

John 20

[SUP]30 [/SUP]Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.
[SUP]31 [/SUP]But these are written that you may believe[SUP][b][/SUP] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Strange how some folks call themselves Christian yet deny Christ's divinity.

Others call themselves Christian yet deny Christ's Resurrection.

More proof that some folks can fall out of a boat and still miss the ocean.

Hi Sarah.

Your confusion is a common one and not at all related to your blondeness.

My understanding is basically that the pre-Incarnate Jesus was always fully God and something additional transpired at His Incarnation or when the Word became flesh. When Jesus took upon Himself flesh, He also became the Son of Man that He might be a Mediator between both God and man. In other words, in order to reconcile the two sides, God and man, it was necessary that someone partake of both natures and Jesus Christ is that someone. When we read verses like you posted where Jesus refers to the Father as His God, we need to understand that such a statement is coming forth from the human aspect of Jesus. He is what is commonly referred to as the God-Man or one Who is both fully God and fully man. I personally don't believe that God was always Jesus' Father or Jesus' God, but instead that such became realities at Christ's Incarnation and that is why I mentioned Incarnational Sonship earlier. Again, there are many who believe that Jesus didn't become the Son of God and the Son of Man until His Incarnation. We can discuss this scripturally if you'd like to.

Jesus is also the SON OF GOD which by default does make Him divine.

Not to nitpick, but Jesus isn't the Father's only Son. Angels are said to be sons of God in scripture and so are Christians. Jesus is the only begotten Son of God and there is significance in the word begotten and how it pertains to Christ. I recognize that you capitalized the word Son, so perhaps you're placing some significance upon that, but both angels and Christians are still sons of God so we need to be careful in how we phrase things.

These are what we call "nominal" (in name only) Christians.

But Jesus has always existed, along with the Father and the Spirit, so He's not begotten. Besides I don't use the KJV. It's very different to call Jesus the Son of God and to call angels sons of God. Yes, the capital letter was for good reason. It's quite common to say Jesus is God's one and only Son. No harm.

Numbers 23

God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent;
First, this was written before God walked among us in human form, aka, Jesus Christ.

Second, the focus is about lying and repenting, not a theological discussion regarding God's human form. In other words, the passage is saying, God does not lie; God does not need to repent.
