It appears from Rom 8:3 that my body is sinful. I certainly had no choice in
that; nor am I aware of what it is about my body that's sinful. But even if I
knew; there's probably nothing I can do about it anyway. I mean: my body
has a number of automatic functions over which I have no control; and
that's counting the 3-pound lump of flabby organic tissue housed within my
bony little skull sufficing for a mind. How am I supposed to cure the
sinfulness of a flabby lump without destroying the mind it produces?

God does not create evil and he created you, your body may have a sinful nature but it's a temple for God and he resides within you and surely he wouldn't reside in a place of evil would he?
Because of grace you need not fear your sinfulness Jesus paid the price with his death, true grace is not a free ticket to do as we please but when we mess up and we sin we repent and move forward in faith and love knowing that we have freedom in Christ.

Romans 7:23-25
[SUP]23 [/SUP]But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
[SUP]24 [/SUP]O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
[SUP]25 [/SUP]I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

You can't cure the sinfulness that is in your members. But what is impossible with men is possible with God.

well you can't

that, is why God has provided with an alternative

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you Psalm 119:11

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12: 1-2

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Colossians 3:2

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16

manichaeism, catharism, and several other ascetic beliefs that consider the human body (and the entire material world) to be inherently evil were some of the first gnostic heresies in the church.

God does not create evil and he created you
†. Rom 8:3 . . For what the law could not do, weak as it was through the
flesh, God did: sending His own son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an
offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh

The koiné Greek word for "flesh" in that passage is sarx (sarx) which
essentially pertains to the meaty portion of the bodies of either man or
beast. The meaty portion of the human body of course includes its brain.

Sarx is same word for flesh in the passage below.

†. John 1:14 . . And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.

And this passage too:

†. 1 John 4:2 . .This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: every spirit
that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God

your body may have a sinful nature
Rom 8:3 says my body is sinful: period.

but it's a temple for God and he resides within you and surely he wouldn't
reside in a place of evil would he?
It appears to me that God has a way to make the sinful bodies of Christ's
believing followers suitable as a habitation for the Spirit by means of a
special washing.

†. Heb 10:22 . . Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed
with pure water.

I take it the "pure water" refers to Christ's teachings.

†. John 15:3 . . You are already clean because of the word which I have
spoken to you.

†. Eph 5:25-27 . . Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her; that
he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the
word

Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.

I think it's pretty safe to assume that the "mind" about which Paul wrote is
the mind of Christ, which is far different than the mind produced by the 3
pound lump of flesh housed within our skulls. In point to fact, if our flesh
serves the law of sin, then the brains in our heads are serving the law of sin
without us even realizing it half the time.

The multi-million dollar question is: How did Paul obtain the mind of Christ?
I know he had it because he said so at 1Cor 2:16.

GOD is a Spirit and he must be worshiped in spirit and truth.GOD gave us five senses that help the body function but we have went past the intended use of our senses but faith pleases GOD.

GOD relates to us SPIRIT to spirit and not SPIRIT to flesh and the reborn spirit worships GOD in TRUTH.

The flesh trust in what it can see before it will believe.

Faith pleases GOD and only GOD can clean the spirit in TRUTH.

Paul said he delighted in GOD after the inward man but I see another law in my flesh warring against my mind and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my flesh.

It was given as a gift.

Matthew 11:28 [SUP] [/SUP]Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Is The Human Body An Evil In Itself? No
The human body's flesh produces human nature; and that's why Paul said:

"For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing" (Rom 7:18)

"For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law
in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into
captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. (Rom 7:22-23)

The human body's members include its brain seeing as how the human
body's brain is made of flesh. Some people are very proud of the quality of
their brain, not realizing that they are proud of the very thing responsible
for maneuvering so many unwary souls straight down the road to hell.

The body without spirit is dead (Jas 2:26) and what's left will return to the
dust of the earth from whence it came (Gen 3:19). However, the body's dust
is a dust within which dwells no good thing. The entire cosmos-- all of its
forms of life, matter, and energy --is cursed.

†. Rom 8:20-22 . . For the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own
will, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself
also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the
glory of the children of God.

It's curious how so many people seem to think that the human body is
sinless. Well dead or alive, the human body is quite spiritually toxic. It's
mankind's own worst enemy.

†. Rom 7:24 . .Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body
of this death?

All the dust that goes into making a human body is destined for incineration.
None will be salvaged for future uses.

†. 2Pet 3:10-11 . . But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night;
in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the
elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are
therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be
dissolved etc etc.

†. Rev 21:1 . . And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first
heaven and the first earth were passed away

So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the
law of sin.
I think it's pretty safe to assume that the "mind" about which Paul wrote is
the mind of Christ,
To the contrary,
Rm 7:25 summarizes 7:7-24. That mind was Saul's own, 'good,' mind, with his will to do
the good, 7:21. That couldn't beat his flesh.

if our flesh
serves the law of sin, then the brains in our heads are serving the law of sin
without us even realizing it half the time.
hmm

The multi-million dollar question is: How did Paul obtain the mind of Christ?
I know he had it because he said so at 1Cor 2:16.
The mind of Christ is in Christ, which is in the Spirit.
Which is in us who believes' spirit. Wanting to make home
in our heart. And eventually Himself pervading our bodies.
Making them like His. If I set my mind on my spirit, if I
mind the Spirit in my spirit, I have the mind of Christ,
and Christ has me

1 Corinthians 6:18
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
A contemporary word for 'without' is 'outside.'
Every sin which a man may do is outside the body, but he who commits fornication sins against his own body...
But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit
