There are many here who refute mainstream Christianity on various doctrines. When you're having the endless arguments over basic Christian doctrine with narcissists, repeating yourselves over and over, hundreds of times, have you fully grasped that, for instance, the one who claims they are without sin doesn't have the truth in them? Scripture plainly states the truth is not in them, period. This is not complicated,

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If they don't have truth, what is it they do have, then?

Do you know you're being trolled by tares who are unable to discuss the Bible by Holy Spirit enlightenment? Do you really believe everybody is truly Christian, that those who are espousing lies here have been led into lies by the Holy Spirit? Can you explain how that works, the Spirit which leads into truth is, what, a failure in some? Is God a failure, or is that Spirit, in fact, absent in them? You should know the answer to this.

John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The Lord Jesus, God who cannot lie, states the Holy Spirit will guide into all truth. What Holy Spirit conviction of sin, the flesh and the awe of Holy God is leading those who claim perfection? What Holy Spirit is telling people it's some head faith with their filthy rags works that save? What Holy Spirit is causing people to try and spread doubt, not faith? What spirit leads these sinful men who accuse and slander others of their salvation? What Holy Spirit is guiding the incessant, repeated lies of trolls and tares, that come to disrupt?

The fact is, the bickering will never end, because, to some, it's not about truth. Some people need to get saved, first, then discuss scripture they don't, at this point, understand.

Also, you saved need to realize you're having a discussion with the dead, that there's really no sense in repeating yourselves hundreds of times. It may be a favorite pastime here, but it's not Bible discussion. And the troll has a narcissistic, sociopathic mental disorder, the game solely about seeking attention.

As to you who are not of truth, you had better repent and come broken to the foot of the cross, in Holy Spirit conviction of your sins, and receive salvation: the alternative is you're one heartbeat away from eternal hell. You need to come to the cross and finally pray such, with an honest heart,

Dear God, I know that You love me, but I confess that I'm a sinner and my sin deserves judgement. I need and want mercy. Jesus, You died to save me, and You promised to save me if I would trust You. I do trust You, Jesus. I believe You are the son of God. I believe you paid for my sin with Your blood on the cross. I believe that God raised You from the dead and right now, yes right now, Jesus, I am trusting You to save me. Come into my life, forgive my sin, cleanse me, and begin now to make me the person You want me to be. And Lord Jesus, help me never to be ashamed of You, because You died for me. In Your name I pray, with all love and thankfulness. Amen.

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

P.S. Wisdom for the Internet Age:

I've been thinking about your post for three hours (off again, on again. What can I say? I have to think about money and bills the day I balance the checkbook and pay bills, so it leaves little room for other-thinking. lol)

I still can't make up my mind what I want to say, because two phrases keep leaping in my head:
"Duh now!"
and
"Amen!!!"

But have you notice how many are listening to you since you wrote this post?

I guess too many think they have the magic arrow that will nail this nonsensical arguing. Go figure. I do think folks should pay RobOp an hour's pay per every time they're sure they'll be that magic arrow. I bet RobOp wouldn't ever have to ask for money again, if that happened.

Jut so you know, I don't think they're trolls. Trolls are people who go around the Internet to start flame wars. Well, yeah, some of them are that. Most just wait around for someone to post "the magic arrow" so they can join in and start over again to repeat the same thing they always say. Then again, you have to wonder, Why not? After all, it stirs others to repeat the same things they always say too, so what's the dif?

The best counter agent for lies is truth. The prophets were told by God Himself what to speak, when to speak it. Were they well received? ....not so much as you well know. But they had their marching orders and knew they must obey as He led them.
Time is slipping through the hour glass of history. The watchman on the wall must sound the trumpet for the enemy is at hand.
I personally had a muzzle on my mouth for about 27 years of my ignorant Christian experience. God has removed that muzzle now commands me to 'speak and hold not my peace' any longer, again, by His inspiration and leading.
Not sure if you are telling the faithful to put a lid on it or you are speaking to the rebellious gain sayers.
I submit that if you are telling the remnant to cool it, that's not your call or your business. 'Judge not another man's servant' seems to answer this point.
The clash of truth against the false is so the hungry can see the difference and then make their decision.

Another site I belonged to (well still belong but have not posted in since March or something) used to ban a person from a thread...not the site, just the thread...if they caused trouble

IMO, there are certain threads here that can NEVER be discussed or anything good learned or brought up because a few fellows here are hogging all the broadband

Maybe a proposal could be made that if a thread is started and someone just comes along and starts their ususal song and dance, they could be kicked out of the thread

They are not banned from the site, but banned from the thread because they interupt, sow discord, discourage rather then build up, accuse and argue and you have the idea and know whereof I speak

It's not like they cannot start their own thread, star in their own thread and by howdy, I guess kick us out too! But we would not need to go there anymore, because we could have a discussion or study without being told we are going to hell because they said so

Thoughts? (if anyone reads this )

Trolls are people who lives a sad life who does nothing better than troll other people and make them sad to there level. However Trolls are people who need God in there lives. So don't go to there level, but bring God's level to them.

God loves them, we should too. despite what they do to make people's lives a misery. Pray for them and let God deal with them.

Some of these folk are no more trolls then we are...I agree with the op in principal and we are all prob thinking about the same group

They believe in what they say..does not make them a troll

Sadly they are wrong and I honestly believe it is time to have some sort of control over their taking over ANY thread that in any way, shape or form, allows for their usual dialogue

From what I have seen from the OP is if being a troll means those who simply come spreading false doctrine teaching then we all need to look at ourselves at evaluate how we give the word as well.

I say this because of the usage in the OP of those who say they are without sin not having the truth in them, which is true by the bible. But this is not the only thing that the bible says and shows about not having the truth in them.

The bible also speaks on those who can not bridle their tongues do not have the truth either, as belittling, demeaning, sarcastic attitudes, and other hurtful words towards others is forms of hatred and those who hate do not have the truth in them as well.

The NT speaks of the importance of our walk in the faith and the fruits of the Spirit that all born again believers will be full of in their lives. No fruits is evidence the bible shows of one who does not have eternal life abiding in them.

So if a troll is one who spreads false doctrine then when you are debating in a thread and a person tells you they are offended, hurt by, or tell you to stop with a false allegation then you also are spreading a false doctrine of hate at that time. And if you do not stop you are still a slave to that way of the flesh !!!

Accepted definition of "Internet troll": "a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."

By that definition, most of those who "believe in what they say" are trolls, because they "say what they believe" repeatedly, monotonally, remaining stuck on one subject ad infinitum, ad nauseum despite encouragement to move on, engage in other topical discussions, and find some level of harmony with others. They prefer provocation and discord to actual online fellowship.

Sadly they are wrong and I honestly believe it is time to have some sort of control over their taking over ANY thread that in any way, shape or form, allows for their usual dialogue
That pretty much makes them trolls, if that's what you see them doing.

In a study titled Trolls just want to have fun and published by Erin Buckels and three others from the University of Manitoba in Psychology Today's "Dark Triad of Personality" special issue, the conclusion is that Internet trolls will lie, exaggerate, and offend to get a response, and the study revealed similar patterns of relations between trolling and the "dark tetrad of personality": trolling correlated positively with sadism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism, using both enjoyment ratings and identity scores.

In short, they get their jollies from upsetting everyone else by clinging to ridiculous concepts or simply insulting everyone. That fits most of those here who repeatedly and monotonously show "they believe what they say" in post after post, thread after thread.

Excellent, and I've thought this very same thing, that it would be good if you could control your own thread more, by having the ability to ban certain users from posting who troll. (Or some mechanism to this effect.) This concept there are those who can simply trash truth at will and turn all into a self-centered bickerfest are the proverbial swine, trampling pearls.

I fear, though, that many like to bicker, that the trolling goes both ways, that the web is a nesting ground for mental disorders. You know that people, in the real world, don't act like bratty children, telling each other, "Yes it is. No it's not. Yes it is. No it's not. Yes it is. No it's not. Yes it is. No it's not...", hundreds of times, as if camped out in each other's faces. People would look like blithering idiots, doing this in person.

You know that scripture tells you to dust your feet off, not have a war with unbelievers, which is what all liars are, counterfeits. Neither can I see this notion that, well, you've got to refute all the lies, as somebody may come along and be deceived. Repeat yourselves hundreds of times? The Holy Spirit isn't in charge of giving people eyes to see? And does that not just feed and encourage the trolls to post? What you're actually doing, by this mistaken rationale, is increasing the volume of deception: the trolls want to dispute with you.

Think about this. As a result of entertaining these deceivers, you're party to keeping their deceptions alive, even flourishing. Is that a service to the gospel? To be completely honest, how many here simply have anger management and sociopathic issues they use the web as an outlet for? How much of this is really about the Lord? Between all the false gospels, false exegesis and bickering, there's just not a whole lot here for anybody of truth, nothing moving in a forward direction. No sooner does one post truth than it's disputed, so there goes any intelligent discussion.

But if this is what you like, to each his own. I'm merely offering the view there's often nothing worthwhile going on that edifies truth to, at least, a few of us, who get very bored with senseless repetition, incessant error and beating dead horses.

1 Timothy 6:2-6 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort. If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment is great gain.

well that's what wiki says, but it also says, if you keep reading:

Application of the term troll is subjective. Some readers may characterize a post as trolling, while others may regard the same post as a legitimate contribution to the discussion, even if controversial. Like any pejorative term, it can be used as an ad hominem attack, suggesting a negative motivation.

By that definition, most of those who "believe in what they say" are trolls, because they "say what they believe" repeatedly, monotonally, remaining stuck on one subject ad infinitum, ad nauseum despite encouragement to move on, engage in other topical discussions, and find some level of harmony with others. They prefer provocation and discord to actual online fellowship.

seriously? I thought trolls were deliberate trouble makers in the sense they get their jollies from the trouble...and not because they want any sort of exchange...I think we are entering the country of subjectivity if we keep going on this one...I could be a troll, you could be a troll but I am sure you see that

Fellowship might also be subjective? You did start that thread on getting along even with the doctrinal differences...now I believe in the gifts and you do not. Does not mean I or you are trolls if we cannot meet on that one...but does fit into love covers these things...the love of God who loves us all and surely none of us are holy or perfct...oh wait....I know where your mind just went LOL!

You have no arguement from me regarding an actual definition of the 'personality type' that displays the above behavior...that is, it will rant the same thing on any thread it can ...not meaning a certain disagreement as you and I have..I have pretty much hinted at that in a thread or two but stopped short of using clinical definitions...I really do think that with one in particular, it would not matter what the discussion was, that one would have to be the center of attention and would demand we all pay homage

In short, they get their jollies from upsetting everyone else by clinging to ridiculous concepts or simply insulting everyone. That fits most of those here who repeatedly and monotonously show "they believe what they say" in post after post, thread after thread.

Well maybe, eh? but for me, the matter at hand is having some good Christian discussion...I really like doing that very much...without the cencorship of the look at me crowd...look ma no hands hardly has less meaning.

First, calling a person a troll is being hateful towards people. It is an insulting statement (That is more likened to that of the wrong behavior of unbelievers). Especially if you create pictures of them as having the appearance of a troll. God sees the heart and wants people to repent. Insulting others is not the way of Christ.

Second, 1 John 1:8 is in context to 1 John 2:4. He that says he knows him and does not keep his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him. So 1 John 1:8 cannot be teaching that we can break God's Commandments while saying we know him. For 1 John 2:4 refutes that type of thinking.

I would think that 'control' would be more the work of a mod? One warning...'you are disrupting the thread' or 'please stay on topic' or the like and if that is ignored, well ta ta...you are now in read only mode...I would think that not necesairly very good to enable a thread op to be able to do that...yeah...I don't think that would be good

well people might not do this in real life unless they were married haha...seriously, it can get ugly in a church board meeting or whatever, but personalities are like that which is why people need to listen with their ears and not their mouths...I must say I am not perfect either at this point because I left my helmet in another thread

I agree about the endless refutation, but either side is entrenched. However, and this is fair I think...don't disrail the thread, don't call people names, don't accuse...one and I mean ONE warning, or you are no longer able to contribute...worked well in the other forum when they actually used it

well for sure which is why I have stated a number of times...IGNORE...not necessairly use the ignore option (although it works haha) but read if you want but don't respond.

It has become, IMO, an issue of pride on BOTH sides at this point

Jason,

I hereby knight you as... Defender Of Trolls.
All men are sinners at some point in their life. Those who accept Christ are changed spiritually whereby they do not want to hate others with wrong words but they simply want them to repent of their sinful ways so that Christ can live in them. That does not mean I am in support of people's sinful actions (even if they are classified by such a name by other sinful people wrongfully). Using the word "troll" being a believer should be a foreign concept to a true believer because it is a word that suggests one as being hateful towards that person. Christ's people are not set out to hate others but to love them and to preach the gospel to them in love so that they will repent of their wicked ways.

For 1 John 2:4 refutes that type of thinking.

this is where I would insert a warning

just sayin

regretfully, I will not respond to the obvious accusation the above will engender...and so it goes

How do you judge? Telling the truth that someone is a troll, if indeed they are such, is not a sin and not about insulting people. Maybe you'd had problem with Eliyah and his strong rebuke of the false prophets of his day if you were around back then. Maybe you recall Jesus's rebuke of some Pharisees? The truth was spoken. That was the point.

Why would something supposedly untrue insult a mature believer? Seems you get insulted around here frequently. Seems like the common denominator.... is YOU. Lol (A denominator is a mathematical term used in fractions to describe the bottom number of said fraction). Hows that for a real world example? I personally think it is far superior to your tiger in the cage vs a tiger in a fenced in area analogy..........far superior.)
