What exactly does it mean? I've often wondered why someone would say they are God fearing, but then turn around and say the Lord gives them nothing to fear. There is no fear in God, only love. So why would we say we fear Him then?

1 John 4: 18 --- There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

The biblical usage of the word "fear" would serve better if it were "awe".

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction" -- Proverbs 1:7

A God-fearing person is one who seeks wisdom, knowledge and instruction -- the only type that comes from God.

I am thoroughly puzzled as to your reaction. My post was in reaction to the word "fear" and my biblical post spoke of love. You are speaking of "my hatred". What hatred? Was it me you are responding to or is there some error /confusion here?ou have me flummoxed.

I'm sorry did I miss something? I swear this place is more confusing than twitter. You make a post, the first two or three people answer your question, then after that they go on some weird I don't even know what to call it and you can't even remember what you were asking in the first place.

Just means you fear not having GOD with you.

I'm Practice-English,
I'll try to answer to the question...
I'll do my better as I can do.
My opinion about the thread
is for me if we fear it's because
we doubt and we don't have faith.
Agree or not with me,
I'll try to deal with.
I'll talk about myself by saying that
usually I'm afraid about a lot of things...

Really????

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God<----Paul almost 2000 years ago
The fear of the Lord s the beginning of knowledge<----Solomon some 3000 years ago
I will tell you who to fear<----Jesus some 1970 or 80 years ago......

It seems you like to lay alot on those who preach hell fire and brimstone while ignoring the God inspired men who testified of the fear of the Lord!

Proverbs 8:13 - The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
