I was taught and taken to church by my Aunt Lois with her three children. I have been in and out of church because I didn't understand what salvation was until about 4 years ago, but I still attend the denomination I was raised in.

Do I believe my denomination has all the answers?....Probably not, but I go now to spend time with God and keep my relationship with Him fresh. Also spend time with God daily in devotions with my husband and pray together to build our relationship with God to continue to grow in love with God and keeping Him first in our lives.

My husband was raised Catholic but is comfortable in my SDA church that we both attend he is accepted and welcomed and loved by the members there. When you love God and give Him your heart fully I don't think it matters what denomination you attend. At least it has proven true in our family.

I joined a local church so I could take part in such things as teaching Sunday school and partaking in communion. For better or for worse, a denominational label came along for the ride. I'm pretty sure there won't be any in heaven.

I've avoided joining churches although I attended them, but because I haven't taken their members course as I don't believe in denominations I think sometimes I have missed out and not been so involved in what's going on. Am I right or wrong ? I've no idea.
P.s. first post hello people :)

There's a story I heard many years ago that I oft plagiarize about denominations. Goes something like this:

One day Jesus is walking down the street and a group of people bring a blind man to Him seeking healing. Jesus spits on the ground, makes a little mud, puts some in the blind man’s eyes, and tells his friends to take him down to the river and wash it out. They and the crowd do just that, and when the man washes he is healed and can see. So off this group goes, preaching that one must 'receive spit in the eye and wash at the river’.

Another day, Jesus comes across another blind man seeking healing. Jesus tells the man to go to the temple and pay his alms. The man and the crowd around him do so, and he is healed and can see. So off this group goes, preaching that one must ‘give their alms’.

On still another occasion, a blind man is brought to Jesus wanting to be healed. Jesus asks the man if he believes He can do it, the man says yes, and he is healed. So off this group goes, preaching one must have ‘faith and belief’.

So now we have these three 'denominations' going at each other, insisting you can only be healed by ‘spit and washing’, or only by ‘alms and giving’, or only by ‘faith and belief’ - each ‘denomination’ insisting that it is exclusive of all the others. But in debating about the how, they totally lose sight that there are many ways Jesus restores us, and that they are not exclusive of each other.

People that stress the importance of membership often cite accountability as the best motivation for it. The sad part is when they use it as tool of entrapment whenever they feel like beating their denominational distinctives into you with a stick.

People have been re-inventing Christianity for centuries, erroneously attempting to conform Christ to their own image and teachings rather than conforming themselves to Christ and his teaching. New denominations are born every day.

From being around him, I would say, "yes", much more than some people on here.

I find no redeeming value in that story. It creates the possibility of more than one way to be saved. It leaves room for the Muslim to claim salvation through Islam. It leaves room for the Eastern Mystic to claim salvation through reincarnation.

Yes, it's called closed communion. Based on, "how can two walk together unless they are in agreement"...just sayin.

Our congregation chose not to even have membership roles, at all, due to that kind of "exclusiveness."

And Church discipline as mentioned by Jesus and Paul?
I've always wondered what's to stop the guy caught with his father's wife (in today's scenario with no church discipline ) just head to another church.

Same way at the church I'm attending. And a communion table open to all. Also, they don't pass a plate or make a big scene about collecting money either. There's a wooden box in the back of the church where you can give your financial gift. You can put it in a envelope with your name on it for tax purposes if you want to, or give privately.

Why would someone need to be a member of a denomination to deal with that issue?
